I don't use live update for shit either. I just go somewhere else and check my subscribed threads every once in a while.

I work mainly from My Account.
It's really pretty fast, and it shows just those threads that I can respond to without double-posting.

Yeah that's what I use too. Especially since live update loves to fuck up so much.

Live Update doesn't work when you read your threads from the most recent first.

More like it just doesn't work in general. Usually winds up eating posts.
