I have never tried a purple yam before. Are they any good?

they are! they're a little starchier than other potatoes, and they have a more mild taste, but still pretty sweet. i think they taste more like butternut squash, that level of sweet/starchy.

All I know is that a yam is a monocot, and a sweet potato is a dicot. It has something to do with the seedlings, I think. I don't know what that means, exactly, I'd have to google it. The only comparison I can think of is Pepsi vs Coke. Yes, they're both colas, but they are different and do taste different!

I haven't had a purple yam, but I have had purple potatoes before! They're like any other potato, just purple. :D

purple potatoes are tasty! they're a little more starchy too, for me. i think i'd probably cook them just a little longer. they're really good as chips too

i've only ever had them in a mix, i bet the flavor is stronger when you have them on their own!

Oh my i forget to check menewsha for a little while and i come back only to learn new stuff about food. I'm originally from the northwest i never knew there was a difference between sweet potatoes and yams until now.

Normally I do the mixed unflavored.
