I wonder if perhaps he had lost all his money gambling and was taking revenge on the world on his way out.

My daughter said that she had read somewhere that this was indeed the case...that he had taken a loss at gambling.
But the fact that he had numerous weapons that had been illegally altered in his hotel room indicates a premeditated plan.
The fact that he killed himself means that we may never know what his motive was.

Well if he lost all his money gambling... I'll bet he got a deal with someone. Maybe "Do this and we'll pay your debt so your family doesn't suffer".
It may or may not be a terrorist that bought him out, but I'm pretty sure someone did. He wouldn't be able to afford those guns.
