I guess it depends on what region you're in?? There's some stuff that's all over the place up here but freaking impossible everywhere else. And vice versa.

The new diet is making me crazy. As soon as I can get in to see my family doctor the specialist wants me to get him to make a referral to a dietician who specializes in diabetic diets.

Just found out this week that there are none in our area. Looks like it will be at least an hour or more drive to get to one. Great...our area keeps losing doctors and other people in the medical field. My family doctor just retired at the end of last month, we didn't know he was retiring until the middle of December. They are not gonna replace him with a doctor, they don't have any available, the office will now just have PA filling in on a rotating basis. Now it is gonna be a month before I can get in to see a new doctor. My specialist is getting me into the new doctor because I need an actual doctor because of all my medical problems.

How do you not replace a retiring doctor?

His office is part of the hospital and they apparently are in a doctor shortage. Makes no sense to me either, we will probably still go there when we get sick because wifey's cousin works there and usually finds a way to fit us in last minute.

He drives even though he can't see out of one eye? That's scary.

Don't take it the wrong way but hope he never comes down this far driving. Some people just won't give up driving even after they become a safety hazard. wifey had one customer who wouldn't stop driving until his tire caught on fire because he was driving around for miles on a flat. how long do you have to drive on it for it to catch on fire?

Oh my God! I'm literally crying here. I would imagine you have to drive around and he's very long time before it catches on fire. I know it's not funny and he really should stop driving but he's too stubborn. And the worst thing is he just got his license renewed and their state does it for eight years. I think once you get that old it oughta be like a yearly thing. He really is an awful aggressive driver to begin with. They used to have a jaguar and a couple of times on long-distance drives he really upsethummymom like cutting in front of people and almost getting hit. So I convinced him to get an SUV, I figured he would be up higher could see better and he would have more car around them in case God forbid you know. But after the stroke I really thought he stopped driving but he hasn't he doesn't want to give up his independence. Oh and by the way he was up in your area over the weekend. But he was on I-95 so you were cool.

Oh gods humms X__x

My dad's not exact a great driver either, but so far he hasn't had a stroke. Which is surprising, given how his diet and lifestyle aren't exactly the healthiest...he's the type of person who'll pick a big family-sized bag of cheetos over actual food for dinner. Tell him to get some veggies, and he'll get like two cans of green beans =___=. And if he has to go more than half a block, he'll rather take the car than walk three frikkin' blocks =___=

And he wonders why he has high blood pressure.....

I said something about turning him in, I was joking, but I worry about him. I mean God forbid something happens. Anyway I just think when people get older you ought to have to take your test more often not give them twice as many years with a driver's license that they might not be able to actually see to drive with.

Wifey also told me about another customer whose family took away his car so he couldn't drive anymore. He has either dementia or Alzheimer, don't remember which. He got into the wrong car at a store and freaked out the kids who were in the car. He didn't want to give up his license and both of his adult children live within a mile of him and another relative is next door. We are happy Damiamommy don't drive much she driving has gotten worse over the years.

Hummy - We don't travel I-95 often, mostly its I-85. After age 70 they should test people more often for license.

TaiyoTsuki - In the past we did stuff like that eating junk for dinner with no vegetables, but we have changed our ways. Hope your dad will be able to change his ways.

As a survivor of triple bypass surgery, junk food just doesn't even sound good anymore!
I, too, believe that folks should have their driving ability checked more often after they reach retirement age.
I love to drive, but I haven't in a while...but I would gladly be tested rather than to cause someone or myself injury.

Inzanebraned: Pringles and Monster are still my weakness. Wifey (damia) has been doing better about cutting out the junk food or cutting back on it a lot. We both have always drank more soda then we should, but she has been doing really good about drinking water and tea instead of soda. yesterday she had some soda, well ginger ale because she was having some issues and was trying to calm down her stomach.

Tonight's dinner was oven roasted chicken with corn, peas and carrots. A little seasoning rub on the chicken skin and no extra stuff added and it turned out good. Might use what is left for chicken soup.

Miscreant74: That Monster drink is worse for you than the Pringles.
Docs told me to avoid energy drinks back when I had my first heart attack about 10 years ago.
Your chicken dinner sounds really good! ...and the leftovers should make a tasty soup!
I hope that wifey is feeling better!

Inzanebraned: She is doing better. Ended up not making the chicken into soup, made some stuffing to go with the leftover chicken. Today was taco soup.

Miscreant74: I am glad wifey is feeling better.
I recently made homemade chivken soup and have lots of leftover soup...I think I'm going to freeze it for another time.
My disabled daughter refuses to eat anything with any spice in it so I have never even tried taco soup.
I hope you and wifey have a great day!

@ Miscreant: Yeah...hopefully, but I rather doubt it. He's been that way since even before I was born; the only way to get him eat healthy stuff is to either a) do his cooking for him (and, believe it or not, he can indeed cook pretty well. Well enough to not starve or set the house on fire, anyway) or b) tell him whatever healthy thing in the fridge is for somebody else. This has happened, too; I loooove veggies, I eat them like potato chips or cheetos or whatever, I've always been like that. Back in high school I lived with my dad because it was either go to that town's high school or a neighboring town's, one that would've required me to live with my mom and grandparents...and my grandmother was a bitter bitch when it came to me.

Anyway, when it came to grocery shopping my dad would completely ignore the produce and meats and dairy sections and go straight to the chips and snacks and freezer sections for all the pre-made, microwaveable meals and chips and candy and crap. It got to the point where I'd just grab a basket and go get the real food myself, and meet him in the junk food aisles. Mom found out, and promptly decided that since dad wasn't going to see sense she'd do the produce shopping herself. This resulted in my dad being told that the five-pound bag of carrots in the fridge was for me...so of course he eats the entire bag in one sitting, and I'm pissed off when I get home because "YOU IDIOT THOSE WERE GOING TO BE MY AFTER SCHOOL MUNCHIES YOU DUMBASS!!!"

...I feel like I should also mention that while most people seem to have this trigger in their brain that tells them when they've eaten enough, my dad seems to lack it. If I'm munching out of a big bag of chips, I'll either pour some out into a bowl or close the bag with a clothespin or something and put it back for later. Not my dad; he'll eat an entire giant bag of something until it's empty. It's like his brain and his stomach are not connected at all =___=

Kinda glad that I take after my mom, tbh. *shivers*

Having recently quit smoking, I tend to mindlessly eat stuff until it's all gone... Chips, nuts, candy...
I need to remember to give myself a portion in a bowl and put the rest away before I get fat!
