@empty: i read the first 'blue bloods' book and i thought it the vampire lore was a neat and different approach, but the writing style totally turned me off the series... it annoyed me how the writer described the clothes and the expensive things so specifically... and that made me think it was more immature then other vampires novelists

@linnea: yea thts true..
i like the fact where these vampires dont have to hide themselves in public..

bt how the writer describes them is always so great n perfect tht i started to get annoyed..
the diamonds, wealth n all too is kinda too extravagant n they start to bore me..
the chapters in the book arent tht specific too.. one chapter it talks about Mimi Force n the next it talks about Bliss.. kinda confusing if u r nt used to it..

@empty: i know what you mean about the chapters being a tad confusing when they change whose perspective it is and don't really let you know... i also like that they don't have to hide in public.... i thought it was neat how they kind of come of age (the blue blood shows, etc.)... it seems unlike a vampire thing and more like a witch or warlock or something...

on another note, how about the sookie stackhouse books? i'm almost done with the first one and it's not so bad... but it seems like it has the most stereotypical vampire lore (only come out in the day, etc.)

I love Anne Rices books. Also Tom Hollands "THE VAMPYRE". I also like a few wolf books like silver wolf and night wolf who are by anne rices sister.

Okay I'll have to admit The first book in Twilight was alright and quite good. But from the second book and onwards the style plot becomes way too cliche for me.

The best vampire book series for me is The Saga of Darren Shan where there are 12 books in total.

From Cirque Du Freak to the very last book Sons of Destiny, it kept me on the edge, adrenaline up and suspense to the very end. I never got tired of it, it to me was the best long vampire book series ever to not lose it plotline, its style and grow tiring and cliche. It has adventure, violence, humor, some romance and horror as well as some sort of realism to it even though it is of a fantasy genre. The vampire portayed here are quite human with flaws and positive characteristics that you can come to love any sort of vampire in the series as well as grow to hate.

My favourite books rom the series Cirque Du Freak and Trials of Death whlst my favourite characters are:

-Madam Octa (Even though she is a spider ^_^)
-Darren Shan
-Evra Von
-Larten Crepsley/Vur Horston (aka Mr Crepsley)
-Kurda Smahlt
-Harkat Mulds
-Gavner Purl
-Vancha March
-Gannen Harst
-Hibernius Tall
-Lady Evanna

Pairings...I usually like the friendship pairing of Evra Von and Darren Shan and the apprentice pairing of Darren Shan and Mr Crepsley as well as the funny and deadly pet pairing of Madam Octa and Darren Shan.

I recommend this book if you want an adventurous read. But that's all up to one's interpretation I suppose.

I'd give my credits to Anne Rice for her vampire books. Lestat is one of the most in depth vampires I have every seen so far. Cirque De Freak is another story that I really enjoy. The Vampyre by Tom Hollands is excellent.

I will never forget Stroker's Dracula x3

I need to look for more good vampire novels and such next time I go to the library :3

I'm going to go ahead and admit that I've enjoyed the Twilight books. But they are not my favorite vampire books. I saw someone mention Christine Feehan's books, and also the Sookie Stackhouse books. But my absolute favorite is Sunshine by Robin McKinley. Although, Children of the Night by Mercedes Lackey is awesome, too. I was actually a bit surprised that neither of those were mentioned.

I really love the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, even though toward the end it gets into alot of porn lol.
I haven't gotten a chance to read Vampire Academy or True Blood but I think I will pick them up next time I go to the library. My favorite vampire manga right now is Vampire Knight. Its really interesting, I have only been able to read up to book five at the moment.

I am also a big Twilight fan, though I agree that it has bad writing style and bad representations. My favorite character from them is Jasper. I dunno why I just really like Jasper.

What are some of the titles of the books Anne Rice published?

I'm not really into the teenie bopper vampire books. I mean, that's great if you are--- I'm not going to discourage anyone from reading!--- but they were more about romance and growing up than anything supernatural. In a formulistic sense, it was like sisterhood of the traveling pants with vampires thrown in. Not really what I was looking for, but I tend to be tomboyish when it comes to anything about feelings.

Some good vampire series that focus mostly on SUPERNATURAL happenings with romance as a subplot would probably be the Rachel Morgan series (Dead Witch Walking) and the Mercy Thompson series (Blood Bound, Iron Kissed...). The very early stages of the Anita Blake series were very good as well and it focuses more on vampires than the previous two seires mentioned. HOWEVER, as of late, the series has just become nothing more than erotica. (Unless you're into that stuff, I would probably stop at somewhere around The Lunatic Cafe to Narcissus in Chains. After that, it just gets raunchy.)

So yeah. That ends my little rant. If you're interested in things that go bump in the night, check these series out. If you're content with teenage stories, then have fun with what's been mentioned before! ^_^

Dark-Hunters for the win!

Love me some Acheron. Though I love Savitar more. My fave dark-hunter is... Either Alexion, Talon, Sundown... Or Val.
My fave Were-hunter is Uncle Furry. I mean Fury! Though I have to say I love all the Katalakis family tree rather equally.
Dream-Hunter? I don't even rememeber most of their names D'Alerian maybe? M'Adoc? I think those are Dream-Hunters...
Squires.... Nick. Though Keller is a close second. I also like Otto a lot.

I am soooo so so glad I'm not the only one that adores her writing. Me and my friend love her books...we nab her mothers collection every time we visit. It's amusing to have your best friends mom race up to you ranting about this amazing book you "have to" read. xD

I'm also a fan of Anne Rice courtesy of my own mother.

There's a really good series called "The Dark Angel" but I've only actually read the first book. We, my friend and I, were actually just discussing it and how we want to read the next book in the series.

Let's see...I've heard about Anita Blake but I've never read it because I've heard, from several reliable friends, that although it starts off really nice, it just goes sour from there. :P

As for Twilight? I honestly couldn't make it past the third book...I've tried several times now but I just can't get into it at all.

My friend's been trying to get me to read the Vampire Diaries. Apparently she's been reading it for years and thinks I'll like it. When she saw they made a series on TV for it she got excited...until she watched an episode. Now she's just mad they changed everything. But it's to be expected since the books are always better then their on screen counterparts.

not to be a prude, but i have to say the best vampire lore book i have read would be none other that Anne Rice's series.

Clear yet intriguing plots, dynamic characters, well versed writing and a unique style of presenting a concept makes it a winner in my opinion.

i guess i can't say much about the others, considering i don't plan on reading Twilight and Harry Potter doesn't delve too much on vampires except the occasional reference to them as "Dark Creatures we Magic Folk can destroy".

( ok, the Harry Potter thing is a bit harsh... if any one is offended, just say so and ill edit it out.... till then it stays :D )

Queen of the Damned, The Vampire Lestat and Interview with a Vampire.

I will say that my favorite Vampire novel is and always will be Dracula. gotta love the classics  I find the style just very different then what most authors write in, using the letters, and I just find it very intriguing.

There is simply nothing like the classics. I mean, really. You can try to compare them, but in the end, nothing ever comes close to Bram Stoker's Dracula. Granted, afterward Stoker never really wrote a piece that even came to be half as good as Dracula is.

After all, who can compete with characters like Mina, Quincy, and John? Let alone Renfield and his souls! The depth in each of the characters is astounding, and the way in which they work their ways around Dracula's actions in separate mannerisms just brings them together as much more realistic than many of the characters seen in modern day fiction.

Between the epistle style of the novel and the heavy Biblical overtones, Dracula is, as TheYaoiButterfly pointed out, very different from how many authors write today. And, that makes it very special because after reading many books, it feels really good to see a whole new, refreshing twist on writing in general.

I'm not sure i'd say it's the best vampire book ever, but i do quite enjoy the Vampire Kisses series. It is cute. I find I liked it more than Marked due to the less shallow nature of most of the relationships and the characters were more likable. They are a pretty quick read and it is a quirky take on teenage life, whereas most vampire books focus on the normal teenage girls who are only worried about who's dating who, and how hot someone is, etc. Anyone else have an opinion on them?

I still have to go with the tried and true. The best classic vamp novel is, and always will be Dracula. The best modern series is Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles and The New Tales of the Vampires. I just wish she hadn't coped out on the last book. She could have done so much with Blood and Gold... Blackwood Farm is by far my all time favorite vampire novel. Rice's characterization harkened back to The Vampire Lestat while at the same time expanding the her own universe.
