See, the thing is, I did like the first three Twilight books... then it just went straight downhill.

The two best modern vampire stories I've read are Karin (Chibi Vampire), which is about a vampire girl who falls in love with a human boy; and Vamped, by David Sosnowski, about a vampire who adopts a human girl.

I totally agree that The Black Dagger Brotherhood is awesome. I actually joined Menewsha a while ago, looking for folks to RP The BDB with. Unfortunately, I have never been able to find anyone that is interested in doing that.

Oh well. Still good reads!

True blood, And the Anita Blake Series – well until it became more porn than plot. And is everyone forgetting the lord of all Vampire books? Dracula. I mean he was the first Vampire.

The Dark hunter Series. By Sherelyn Kenyon... pure amazingness. Good plot, angsty gods, badass immortals, and just enough smut to get a girl though a REALLY boring math class. And i can't list all of the characters, i haven't read all the books.... there's alot of them... and i don't even have the whole book list anyway

House of Night series as well and Blue Blood Series

Black Dagger Brotherhood is my fav. books! my fav. brother is Vishous. His book was awesome. A close second would be Rhev. But i really want Blay and Quinn to get together.

This is interesting. I might have to check those out. I've already read a lot of the books everyone else is mentioning. I'm in for a change of pace. ^^

i agree with EvieGloom, Karin is a great vampire manga, altho i haven't read too much of it. i really like the Twilight books, too, but they are very far from actual classic vampire stories. the only other vampire series i've read is called The Chronicles of Vladmir Tod. it's a pretty good series, but a little childish. it seems like its more for young teens.

aside from Twilight i would have to say the Sookie Stackhouse series is good, i also like House of Night, and Blue Bloods series are great also.

Well, I'm actually a Twilight fan, but I'll be the first to admit that it's not the best vampire book ever. The inaccurate representations and poor writing style were a bit too much, even for the most rabid sparklepire fan.

Recently, I've started to like Vampire Academy. It's an easy read, but the plot isn't bad.

Anita Blake books and the Dark Hunter books are my favorites.

I have not read Black Dagger or House of Night yet. Have seen House of Night all over lately and may be picking them up next week, and I will for sure check out the other as well.

Oh and the Carpathian books too... can't forget those!

ive got to say, I've only read a few of these but for me the best vampire book would have to be a draw between Darren Shans 'cirque du freak' and heather brewer's 'chronicles of Vladimir Tod' both really great reads. I did read the house of night series and dont get me wrong, it was good. Some of the writing was really .. i dont know, it just didnt read right in my head sometimes. that series would probably be third place in my mind of great vampire books ^_^ but thanks for other opinions because now i have some books I need to read xD

One of my favorite authors. I've read all of her Dark hunter books. I also agree with black.elaments.
As for pairings I like the following characters books :

Acheron
Vane
Probably missed some but I do like them all. There are several books in this series.

I love the BDB. And out of all of them I like Butch's story the best. But that doesn't mean I don't like the others. I don't have a favorite character just yet.... but I am favoring Rhevenge seeing as how he's at a disadvantage and I have yet to read his book... sadly enough.

Oh and if you get some spare time read Molly Harper's Nice girls don't have fangs and Nice girls don't date dead men. Hilarious series. Still ongoing as far as I know and it's only two books but will soon be three. If your looking for comedy, romance, and vampires I suggest these books. ^^

My favourite vampire book would be The Last Vampire by Christopher Pike.

I have not read The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. But I have heard of it. I just don't know what it is about or anything. Just heard the name of the series. XD

I've read all of the Twilight Saga. They were okay while reading, but aren't worth rereading. They are poorly written.

My favorite vampire books are basically all romance novels. XD I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Along with all the other series that takes part in that world she writes. The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris are also really good. I also love the show True Blood of which was based on the books. Another vampire series I love is the Love at Stake series by Kerrelyn Sparks. I also like the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Then, they aren't really vampire series, but they do have vampires in them are the Mercedes Thompson series and Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs. Then the A Novel of the Others series by Christine Warren is really good as well. In it, one of the books is actually where the main character is a vampire.

'lo I'm new here as you can see. I totally vote Sookie Stackhouse novels as THE best vamp books. I'll recommend Katie MacAlistair (author) 's books too. But its kinda for young adults due to mature scenes. Vampire Academy is not bad if you want those direct stories.

mad props to all the people who love the dark hunter series! Acheron is my favorite dark hunter and i just love the series... it's ridiculous how i get so into those books

but 'let the right one in' by john lindquist... it is a fabulous book that plays with some of the myths of vampirism and the relationship between a vamp and a human... its also a movie... in swedish, but they have it dubbed and subbed... read it!

i've just started reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood. so far i've read the first two books- Wrath and Rhage. but i've read the Insider's Guide to BDB and i think i'll like Zhadist's story most...i think.....but i've not read it yet.
