I'm also one of those who read it before the mass-media-frenzy and I can honestly say I liked it. It wasn't that I was at a certain age where reading something like that was suitable for my reading level because I really did enjoy it. Sure, it isn't the most well written series and everything that's been pointed out about the relationships in it are all true. But it was entertaining, and as books are mostly means of entertainment, I think it fulfilled it's role. Would I recommend it for a lit. course in college/HS? No. But for someone who wants a good read, whether they want to laugh because they think it's so crappily written or because they actually got enjoyment out of it, then yes. It's a book, not a cult. This obsessive hating/loving of it is ridiculous. What are they gonna do every time a new series comes out and a big deal is made of it? I mean seriously...

I loathe it so much. Even though it's fiction, Vampires DO NOT sparkle when in the sun, they burn and die. Edward is a Gary-Sue and Bella is a Mary-sue. I hate those types of characters very much, because it makes the story uninteresting, boring, and an insult to literature. And the fanbase for it is just awful. I've heard some rather scary stuff from people who went through the horrid fans, and it just pushes me away even further from reading the books or seeing the movies.

I watched the first movie. Was even excited about said first movie. Now.....Kill it, please? With so many good young adult fiction writers out there, this is the book series that Hollywood picks? Seriously? I loathe to read the book for the simple fact that if the movie was that bad, and everyone said it fit the book, how much worse is the book? No, I shall never subject my intellect to that, thank you very much.

The books are written like bad fan fiction of some crummy show from the nineties. I attempted to read them at one point, but the writing was so bad, that I just couldn't get through even the first chapter. I'm sorry if you like them, but they are just not that good. Edward is a jerk, so is Jacob, and Bella is a pathetic excuse for a protagonist. I find it irritating that people are being duped into thinking that this tripe is real literature.

Mind you I have no problem with people who do like the books. I think though, that they could easily find something better to read.

I'm an ex-Twilight fan. I used to be "Oh my gaaaawd, that's so cuuuuuute, Edward, ahh! *squee*" girls, until one of my friends pointed out everything horrible about it.

Like Bella being a complete Mary-sue. Or the fact that a vampire sparkles? Or how Bella is basically deciding between bestiality and necrophilia. Or how Edward (even indirectly) emotionally abuses (aka isolates) her. When Edward abandons her, Bella curled up into a ball and went numb for months, then jumped off a cliff. Yeah, very inspiring and that's definitely what we should be teaching today's youth. *rolls eyes*

Never read the books but I saw the movies and they just weren't my thing. I side more with the haters but I'm not one of those people that join 'I hate Twilight' websites because in my mind they're just as bad as those people that join the 'I love Twilight' sites. Honestly, I never saw the point of those hate sites because joining those sites and going on about how stupid something is only makes you seem petty and immature.

I would be somewhere in the middle and can't choose a side. I read the first three books but didn't start the last one yet. The first book is good but the other ones are just very emotional. It seems to me that Bella wants to kill herself every five minutes or so.

I have to admit, I'm an ex-Twilight fan. I loved the first book, and to a certain extent I enjoy the fluffy mind-numbing sappiness of the first book. However, to me, that's where the series ended. I read the series, thought it was ok, and then moved on. A few months later, I started to think about what the books were really about and I found myself getting extremely frustrated that a series like this could become so popular.

After how Edward completely ditched Bella in the 2nd book, is when I started reevaluating my interest in the series. "For her own good"...Yeah, Ok. However, what really pissed me off was when Bella accepted him back without a second thought.

She suffers for months over his bad choices, but she doesn't grow from the experience. That's what really pisses me off. Very few, if any of the characters grow from the experience. In fact, I think the only character to grow would be Charlie.

@TheJupiterAlien- I think you made an extremely good point about how he's even emotionally abusing her. I always thought how wrong it was how controlling he was of her, but I never technically put the label of abuse on it. You're absolutely right.

I wish the film directors for Breaking Dawn the best of luck. They have a horrible plot to work with (Pregnancy, Birth, Change, Renesmee ((what the hell of a name is that, by the way?)), The Volturi, etc.) and the incredible challenge of depicting the birth of Renesmee/Bella's Change while still keeping it PG-13.

My point? It started Ok, but it went completely down hill after one book. Instead of growth of character, they go through a sharp decline. Edward from a "sparkling" Prince Charming, and Bella from a mildly independent young woman to a whiny five-year-old/hormonal 17 year old when it suits her.

Personally, when I read the first book I didn't mind it. I tried to re-read it and ended up wondering what I was one when I read it the first time.

It's in first person, which I don't usually mind, when the characters have coherent thoughts. Bella is a Mary-Sue and it drives me up the wall. She has no flaws. She puts herself in a position to be miserable which leads me to believe that sheenjoys suffering, which would mean that she's unstable. Leaving us with an unstable narrator means that we don't get as broad a view as we should.

Edward is abusive, and he stalks Bella. First off, as far as I can remember most folklore kept to the whole "Vampires cannot enter your home unless invited," and I guess I'm a stickler for tradition with that. Edward is also a Gary-Stu, he is "perfect".

Their relationship is built purely on physical attraction, which is unrealistic. Bella likes Edward because he's beautiful and Edward likes Bella because she smells good.

There were also many grammatical errors in the first book alone. Of these and error I found which makes me laugh ever time I see it is... "it had been belonged to me since I was born.".

I am a hater, yes, but I don't go out of my way to bash anyone who likes it. Everyone has a right to an opinion, and I understand that it is a form of escapism. But that's not a good way to deal with your problems.

Sorry about the mini rant.

The only thing I enjoy about Twitlight is pointing out all the phallicies and shortcomings. I don't know what makes me despise it the most; the undeserved praise, the relationships image, the writing, or the author. Because I most definitely cannot stand Stephenie Meyer and would not be saddened at all if it were ever on the noise she lost her hands in a horrible accident.

The writing is horribly subpar, the only reason I can think of that make people think it's so well written is because of the purple pose. All the prettiness distracts them from the actual lack of story and characters. There's more plotholes than potholes in New York, and Bella.. ~cringe~ Bella is beyond a Mary Sue. Hell, they should change the term to 'Bella Sue'. She has no flaws or shortcomings, because no, clumsiness is not a flaw, not unless she was causing to bodily harm to herself, others around here and objects as well. She is manipulative, conniving, whiny, egotistical, and filled with unjustified self importance.

There's no romance in this series either, there needs to be chemistry and a basis for romance.. Twitlight has none. It has a 17 year old experiencing pure lust and a 100 year old plus vampire that is primarily and solely attracted to Bella because of her scent. Other than that, bookwise there is no deeper connection between the two. Jacob, she thoroughly manipulates and misuses, but even still, he's just as bad as Edward. I mean seriously, do no parents see anything wrong with the fact this book glamourizes a man breaking into and watching a daughter sleep? Bella has knocked women back about 50 years with her constant co-dependance on Edward and/or Jacob, and also teaches girls that it's allright if your man is abusive, cause prettiness is all that counts. THAT'S.ALL.SHE.EVER.MENTIONS.

I could go on and on about this, but I think a good few other people have made the same points I would, so I'll just leave it at this. My parting comment is that Twilight never should have been published, Meyer omg Meyer... everything that comes out of her mouth is plain and utter bs. Who publishes a series if they can't handle negative commentary and contsructive criticisms?

But on the bright side, this epic fail in human history should be giving hope to anyone ever trying to get published.

Too bad you didn't make it to Breaking Dawn Canon. If you loved 'It had been belonged to me since I was born.' You would have loved '... the Isle of Esme many miles of the West coast of Brazil.' I'm convinced Meyer bought her way through college.

I could not stand Twilight. I read only the first book and half of the last. I read really fast, but the two hours I poured into Twilight felt like an eternity. The prose was terrible and the message anti-feminist. It was disturbing to me to read about an abusive relationship.

I don't really care much about vampires, but...man...way to corrupt the mythos, Stephanie Meyer!

I actually like twilight to an extant. I mean if you read the books you can see that the author does have talent. But I must admit that the movies lack what the books deliver. They cut out important parts from the book that makes it readable. So love the books, loathe the movies.

I was taken to the first movie on a date. And we both regretted it. All of the reviews were like OMG LOVE STORY! so we were like OMG DATE MOVIE! Yeah, such a waste of $20. At least the popcorn was good?
Anyway, all of my friends were reading it so I borrowed the books and read them, and couldn't help but laugh. I do agree, Edward is quite abusive/controlling. And that pissed me off more than anything. Bella needed a brain, she's a horrible role model for the girls of the world who are swooning over these books. She's mindless and doesn't go after what she wants, she just kinda walks through life with a dumb look on her face and her mouth held open. I'm not a die-hard hater. But when it comes to twilight, I have so many more cons then pros...that well, it just comes across that way. </3

I loathe the Twilight series. It was bearable at first, only two or three of my friends liked the books. Then when it became a media frenzy and the 'must read' for teenage girls everywhere I began to lose my patience with it. The books received too much hype for what they are. To be fair they're poorly written with appalling grammar, plot holes and some of the worst characterisation I have seen in a long time. Pretty much all of the characters in Twilight are one dimensional or clichéd.

Also, since when has the Bella/Edward relationship ever been considered healthy in the eyes of the general public? If that was one of your best friends going out with Edward you'd tell her to ditch his sorry ass as soon as he started getting possessive over her, not tell teenage girls everywhere that the relationship is the epitome of what true love should be.

Stephanie Meyer got extremely lucky with Twilight. She's not an overly good writer and I personally feel she tried too hard to be original. She took a legend that was old and tired (over used mainly) and then morphed it. Normally that's a pretty respectable thing to do, to make something common your own and give it a unique flair. However, with all the things she could have done to vampires she had to pick the lamest change ever. She took these brutal blood sucking monsters that burned in the sunlight and made them sparkle and live in the forest? Well done Meyer, well done...not.

All in all, something which should have been a flop was blown right out of proportion. Twilight should never have received the stardom that it has, it's a truly awful series that completely ruins the image of vampires and werewolves.

I had a point in my life (a few years ago) that I loved the books. At the time I wasn't really into reading. I was, but not much. Twilight ended up being a huge part of my life. It's one of the series (along with Blue Bloods) that got me into vampires. However, it changed when it got popular.
I started to hate the books and the fans. It annoyed me so much. I had re-read the series and realized that the books sucked. I think when I reread it I was looking for things to hate, and I managed it.
Now I wish the hype of Twilight would just die down so I can read the series again and possibly like it since it was a huge part or my preteen/really early teen years.

I guess I was never a Twilight lover or hater from the start and I'm pretty sure it'll stay that way. I have seen "Twilight" movie...Had no opinion about it except for the sparkling vampire ordeal. It is pretty original...and....entertaining xP
I had never read Twilight yet, but some of my friends says the book is a LOT better than the movie. Though, I've been to busy and lazy to check out Twilight. I already have 4 other books that I purchased that still needs to be read.

I don't obsess about hating it but it is just one of those things that I don't care for. It isn't because of the sparkling vampires though, I thought that was kind of an interesting twist, slightly...weird though. I don't like it because I don't care for those tween romance mushy things. I have read some of the first one, people keep telling me "you can't say you don't like it if you didn't read all of it" I call bull, if you are eating something and it makes you vomit you stop eating, you don't finish it because your friend said it was really good.

I enjoyed the Twilight series, not even going to lie. But when all the obsessed fans came out of their hiding as the movies came out, they ruined it for people who already knew of the books, and weren't too big on the idea of a movie. I didn't like Breaking Dawn all that much, but I still believe the series had great potential as books, and as a tool for Stephanie Meyer to improve her writing skills for future books. [ though I don't advise reading her alien book. ]

I read just the first book in this series, and maybe I could have bothered to read the rest too (being such an easy book), but I thought that I maybe won't waste my time with this.
And I don't really have an extreme opinion (like love/hate), but right from the start it bothered me the style maybe in which twilight was written? It's like for 11 years kids. Easy expressions, superficial description of the feelings, the characters are unbelievably perfect maybe just with some hints of a flaw to enhance their pure personalities or something. The vampires could be a shame, but from this point of view is really good for the kids because we want them violence-free and a vampire sucking blood out of a neck is maybe disturbing for some.
But it's still about romance and the powerful love wining and battles and I heard that Bella gave birth to a something o.O? That's not really for kids lol.
So being a book for teens written and contoured for children, it's a fail.
And I suppose it the author's fault.
So I don't love it nor loathe it, just feel sorry for the poor thing xD.

I think most people just hate it partially because it's so popular and partially because all Twilight fans are portrayed as these squealing lunatics and make everyone sort of embarrassed to be a fan. It's sort of like, "Don't like it! If you like it, you're stupid and obsessive like them!"

Now, I'm not saying the characters and/or premise wasn't flawed (I mean, how the hell does Bella have all these guys chasing her down? I'm just as anti-social and clumsy as she is and I don't have guys after me like that!) but I found the books to be beautifully written and artistic. The movie just made the whole thing into something ridiculous, it really was a story not meant to leave the pages.
