I'm currently reading this novel by Dai Sijie. Although the author is Chinese, he fled to France in 1984, & so this novel was originally written in French.


It's actually banned in China. XD Although the story is based in China.


It's about two boys sent to the country to be "re-educated" during the Mao era & meet with a little seamstress girl. Together they read the banned books from other countries together which change their lives. :D



I was wondering has anyone else read this novel?

No I haven't, but I'm definatly putting it on my 'to read' list. =o
I'm a a sucker for those kinds of books.

But the boys were so cute. n__n

i havent, but i sure will look into that. it sounds like it will be interesting. no wonder it's banned in china. :D

I actually read that book a few years ago but I didn't like it that much, I think I thought it was boring? Can't really elaborate as I usually don't remember much about books which I didn't like - and didn't especially hate either XD


Edit ; There's a movie made out of this novel, btw, I am sure you've heard about it ^^ Have anyone seen it?
