The Scarlet Ibis is a very moving story.
Its about a boy, named Doodle, who was born invalid.
Or "not all there".
Doodles brother pushes him to be "Just like all the other boys"
This story has a lot of symbolism, and is quite short.
Its a quick, and easy read but James Hurst has done an amazing job with it.
I really recommend that you read it.

I remember reading that story back in 11th grade. The ending always bothered me a bit, but I just couldn't see it happening any other way.

I'll have to reread it sometime soon. Even now while I'm typing this, some of the details are slipping away.
