Twilight Or Harry Potter?

Harry Potter. Simply because I dislike Stephenie Meyer's writing style..

That's easy...Harry Potter...it has a better story, plot, characters...well everything...

I think that twilight is over glorified tween girl porn. J K Rowling had an amazing writing style and original concept. Everyone here has read at least 5 stories about high school vampire love. Its so cliché!While Harry did get angsty and annoying at times, there were so many more interesting things happening, no matter which book. HARRY POTTER ALL THE WAY!

Trying to have a vote between Harry Potter and Twilight is like trying to vote between eating cardboard and the most delicious thing you'll ever put in your mouth. There is no comparison. Harry Potter will always and forever blow Twilight out of the water. Hands down. It's not even a matter of opinion. Twilight may be idealistic in the sense that everyone wants to be madly in love and have someone madly in love with them, bu come on. I could seriously go out, find a book, open it to any given page, and find at least three sentences with the word "perfect" in it.

She should be shot for writing such muck, and thinking that it would be a good idea. I mean, seriously. Who wants to read about some middle aged womans wet daydreams about a vampire?

In high school we read Twilight in class. At first I liked it...Until she mentioned that the vampires sparkled. It ruined it for me. I recently tried rereading it. I couldn't get past the first page.

So that being said, Harry Potter, hands down. Better writing over all, I loved how as the story progressed, the writing changed. It got darker and as the audience grew, so did the characters. It's a brilliant idea.

Meyer's writing is amateurish at best. She's ruined the vampire genre forever. Give me J.K. Rowling any day.

I don't see why the two are compared so often; they're not really similar at all.

Harry Potter actually has deep meanings behind what happens in the series. Twilight doesn't - It's basically just a nonsensical teenage romance, in my opinion. The characters in Harry Potter were much more interesting and had reasons behind their actions; in Twilight, I felt that many of the characters really had no personalities whatsoever.

I agree with you completely. Twilight's characters have no depth, or growth. Where through out Harry Potter there are noticeable changes in all of the characters. There are actual metaphors and so on. Rowling is an overall better author.

Harry Potter has a decent plot, good character development, an interesting setting, and actual research was done on mythology and other things to create the world.

Twilight is for pathetic teenage or pre-teen losers who fantasize about an unoriginal cliché life that is just like their badly-written fan fictions featuring a Mary-sue main character, and riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies.

harry potter, because he has challenges and goes through the hardships of facing an evil wizard who is super powerful.
twilight is just about romance, the vampires don't do anything real vampires would do.

i personally like the twilight serious, but they are both a really good series and i would recommend reading both series of books and watching the movies but i perfer the twilight series.

I actually like the Harry Potter series way better. I never really like any books which include romance and stuff. But I think the Twilight movie was a lot better than the Harry Potter movies. You can barely understand the story in the Harry Potter films.

I prefer Twilight, I've always hated Harry Potter from beginning to end but Twilight, when I heard about sparkling vampires I was like, eh must be crap, vampires don't sparkle then I read it and, let's face it, I became addicted. :XD

I'm not trying to start anything here but I can't stand either.
Both are derivative and the writing, at best, is mediocre. I've managed to read one Twilight book - which I then let my friend borrow and not give back (despite how hard she tries) and most of the Harry Potter books (Okay, I'll admit I gave up half way through the series and got the rest on audio book from the library. Stephen Fry is the only reason I got the end of the series).

I’ll keep it short:

Twilight reads like a thirteen-year-old girl's fan fiction. It is - essentially - Stephenie Meyer's vampire-based fantasy. The lead character is so poorly fleshed out that she acts as a vehicle for the reader to imagine they're her, and well, don't get me started on the "romance". If I were Bella I’d probably have found some way to get Cullen arrested by now. The writing style is bland, the characters are completely two-dimensional and, well, I worry about any book that has to resort to a description of the main character clothing in its opening chapter.

As for Harry Potter- perhaps it's because I'm a big fan of fantasy novels and have had my expectations raised by the genre - I just didn't find it left me wanting to read more. I struggled through many chapters because they were just too drawn out. At least in it being drawn out the characters, setting and plot were given a chance to grow though. Oh, that and the epilogue was completely unnecessary.

Now then, I’m not saying its all bad as both series have turned people who wouldn’t usually read into those who do. I would however urge each and every one of them to pick up something else; something that isn’t vampire fiction at least.

I don't hate Twilight, but I'm not exactly a fan, either. I've read it, and while I can't say I completely disliked it, I don't really see why it's gotten so popular.

On the other hand, I've been a fan of Harry Potter since elementary school, and I can reread the series numerous times without it getting boring or repetitive to me. With Harry Potter, I actually grew to care for the characters, and many parts of the series were really thought-provoking and meaningful to me. This is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I've actually cried over certain chapters of HP before.

And I think there are a lot more meaningful themes and ideas in the Harry Potter series. To quote an icon that I've seen around on the Internet,

OK, Carzeebear has given me months of grief but I prefer Twilight! As a teacher, holiday reading has to be light, easy to read, meaningless and for me, soppy. Twilight did all that. Funny is good too, I have Janet Evanovich for that. Harry Potter is too much like hard work when you are tired and grumpy. I am a romantic idiot and it took FAR too long for Harry to grow up and get a love interest! I disagree about the Tween Porn assertion by Viki as Stephanie Meyer leaves most of the details to the imagination. I don't like smutty details, which is why I didn't like the time traveller's wife.
So, there it is. For depth and thinking etc it's Harry. For brainless relaxation and a good sob, Twilight.

Oh well mum, at least you agree that it's meaningless. *sigh* There's hope yet.
