Heh luckily that wasn't the book of hers that we were assigned, I think it was called Left Hand of Darkness. It was about these people who basically eliminated gender and were androgynous. I don't remember the entire plotline, but there was a part where the main character was taken to this camp that was pretty much like an internment camp straight from World War II, and the climate was really cold and he had to escape across the ice or something.
