I'm trying to create an OC. He is a German-native, a whitelighter (based on Charmed series). However, I need a German name, and I don't have a clue what/how to name him! I know certain countries create their names differently.

For example, when I created a Russian OC, my friend pointed out:
Quote:
See, in Russia, we have what we call "otchestva" every child has one, it's usually their father's but sometimes the woman, since in this case his mother did have him without the father around, the child gets their otchestvo from their grandfather. It is always male, and it is their father's, or grandfather's name in possessive. ... Since his father's name is Anikei, he would be Nikita Anikeivich Koslov
So, spoon-fed questions:
Can you help me with the German name, please? xD
Also;
What is your name (if you are cool to say it)?
What does it mean?
What is it's origin?

My name is Marissa. My first name, from what I have heard is Hebrew and it means "of the water".

No, I have the name that I want. But I want to make sure I do it correctly. As in, to fit German criteria. Like I listed in my example of a Russian name.

I don't know much about German names, sorry. Interested to hear what you find out though.

Oh, and my name is Cara. It means beloved in Latin (I think it's latin...) Friend in Gaelic, and I was actually named for the Greek version, Chara which means joy. Parents took the H out for simplicity, I think.

How about just plain old Hans? I like that name.

And my name's Kathleen, of Irish origin, and means "pure".

Ohhhhh. o.o You don't want an actual name, you just want to know the criteria for names. (just read back in the thread) My bad. But I'm keeping Hans up there. I dunno...something about it just seems so badass to me.

Let's see... I'm no expert, but I believe a german name consists of one or more "vornamen" (forenames in english) and a last, family name. While it's not uncommon to give a kid more than one vorname, usually only one of them is actually used for a "call name" like in the US (meaning you would call them by that). This doesn't necessarily have to be the first name in the list of the person's vornamen either. For example, someone named Derp Derpo Derpy Derpenstein can go by Derpo even though that's technically their second name.

I hope this helps a little. :)

For all of you who are actually German, sorry if I got anything wrong. I'm just going off memory.

I finally just Googled it, and I think I got it. I chose Aldric Lukas Brauner for his name, with Aldric being the main name.

Just as long as you don't have a 'von' or 'zu' you'll be find unless you want someone of class. There's not much difference between German and English names for normal people. You have a first name (vornamen) and a last name (Nachname). You can also have multiple first names.

I have a German name I don't like to say. It's like the German equivalent of an old styles names like Mary-Sue. >_>

I don't have much of an idea, but depending on If it's possible, you could always use Google! That's what I do when I need a name from a different country or origin. Oh, I'm Alicesin. Czech origin, supposedly meaning nobility. Hope I was of a small amount of help.

Just now read through the rest of the posts....so you already Googled it...
