The vampire fad that all forms of media seem to be obsessed with is beginning to disgust me. Am I alone here? Vampires are not to be idolized. Sucking blood shouldn't be an aspiration, being undead is not a life goal that teenagers should have. If you look up "How to become..." on Google it automatically comes up with the response: "How to become a vampire." I think this obsession needs to die. Is anyone else with me?

So my questions are along the lines of this:

-Why do teens find vampires so "cool"
-What will/is replacing the vampire trend
-and, should the media be allowed to continue promoting such a bad fad to the youth of the world?

By the way: I'm talking about the vampire books aimed at teenagers, not the classics like "Dracula," "The Historian," or Anne Rice's novels.

NO!!! The trend shall not die! I find vampires very cool, and I'm not even a teenager. BTW, I HATE Twilight.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I didn't mean the classics. I mean the hundreds of crappy vampire books that portray vampires as good, peace loving things that are misunderstood.

What vampire novels/movies etc. do you like?

Oh please. Anne Rice was romanticizing vampires back in the 70s and wrote them all the way up through the 90s. This is NOT a new trend. It's simply a question of practicality. If the vampire chronicles had been written in the 21st century, you'd see the same overload of exposure. It's just the nature of the beast with the proliferation of advertising into our lives.

Vampires have been around for a long time but only recently they seem to be getting super popular. They were popular before but now it's getting a little out of hand.

So basically, I'm with you on this, ElysiumFate. I never understood the love of vamps because I never have been and never will be a fan of the little blood suckers.

I honestly don't know what's so cool about vampires. Well no, I guess the whole undead part and how classy vampires can be, like Dracula, is cool. But they're overhyped.
Personally, I've always been a fan of pirates as a kid.

I had thought about the obsession that ensued from Anne Rice's novels, but being that I was not alive at the time they were in the mainstream, I could not say if they had the same effect on society that Twilight has. It is the romanticized Twilight bull that bothers me. At least Anne Rice still portrayed them as the evil bloodsuckers they are that can't be touched by the sun and, for all that's holy, don't sparkle. That crap tweaks me off.

Also, my BIGGEST peeve with the vampire fad that's going on right now is that the vampires are being made into loving creatures that would rather control their blood lust and be the perfect man than bite the head off of the stupid, clumsy, girl that they have a crush on.

Anne Rice's novels also didn't spark (so far as I can tell) the writing of a thousand nonsensical teenage vampire romances. Maybe they inspired a few, but not the hundreds that line the young adult section in every living book store known to man. It's ridiculous.

I must admit, I've been into things surrounding vampires for a while. I was introduce to Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I was 13 by my parents, and loved it. However, most of the vampires in there were evil, didn't have a soul, and all that jazz. The only exceptions were Angel, who had his soul forced back onto him, which meant he had a conscious, and Spike, who was made incapable of harming humans by means of technology. I think vampirism is something that appeals to teens because of the emotionally unstable state, and is something that can be grown out of, or at the very least, take a back burner as you get older. I was obsessed with Spike and Angel for the longest time. But now, I do like them, just I'm not obsessed with them. I've grown out of it.

Edit: I realize you are talking about books, but movies and television also have a huge impact on teens today. (Twilight movies, True Blood, etc.)

I was talking about vampirism in the media in general, so I know what you mean.

I've loved vampires for many years and was constantly looked down upon for it.
I do think the fad needs to end, but I don't think vampires in general should be punished
if it weren't for Twilight, we wouldn't have this problem
I think Stephanie Meyer needs to disappear off the face of the earth

Eh, my only issue with your opinion on Stephanie Meyer is that her book "The Host" was actually REALLY good, in my opinion. So I thus say: Twilight must disappear, but not Stephanie Meyer.

I have started to see a drastic change from vampire to fallen angel over the last few months. That is only my observation at book stores though, tv and movies are another thing entirely. I so not think it will disappear because it;s been around so long but it will fade away slowly

Cough, Twilight, cough... Before it was just the fact that Vampires were beautiful yet dangerous attracted a couple of people but once Twilight came out this whole vampire-romance crap sprouted... >__> I'm sorry I can't quite believe that a character like Dracula would be lovey dovey. My friend who is from transylvania even admits that its weird since the vampires that she knew of were just freaky people who would just kill people and drink their their blood ugly or not. XD

I'm not sure exactly, i'm starting to hear that more werewolf stuff is poping up more often, but thats not any better. Mostly modren fantasy is taking over, which I don't mind as long as its well written and thought out. XD

Vampire books are fine but when teens and other ages start trying to act like vampires then its gone WAY too far. XD
