Fold paper around the book maybe? xD

@Iltu: It was hilarious seeing as right before we came in a girl had told us about the gay-straight alliance week that our school was having, and he was in support of it. xD

Neither have I.
I'm thinking about it though... just to protect covers.
A few of my soft cover books get a bit roughed up in transport.
It kinda disgusts me. I don't like hurting books.
I'm thinking of using this guide to help me since I have duct tape.
Duct tape =

Very cool! But it looks a bit difficult for DIY-challenged people such as myself. XD I might have to give it a try, though. Thanks for the link!

Haha. Not a problem. (^^) It seems much easier than the sewing cloth ones.
I've been thinking about it for a while but never got around to it... maybe this weekend.

I think I may make some of those, thanks!
I had rubber book covers somewhere, so the rain wouldn't effect them... Though I can't seem to locate them anymore.

Rubber? That's so cool.
I'm pretty sure that duct tape will have a similar effect though.

They were awesome but if the book was to big they would rip straight in half. xD

Awwww, the poor book covers. XD About how big of a book could one put them on? And do you have an idea where I could buy them, or do you make them somehow?

They ripped on a 700 page hard cover text book of mine. XD
They could fit a book the height and width of a DVD and go up to a pretty big text book (just not mine apparently).
I bought them from a uniform store years ago. xD

@Iltu: I just wanted to make sure you knew. Sequels aren't always advertised well, and Jones never gets the publicity she deserves. (Howl's Moving Castle doesn't count because many fans of the movie still don't realize it was <loosely> based off a book). Same with Robin McKinley...

She's amazing though! :flails arms rapidly: >>;
House of Many Ways needs to come out in paper back like right now.

Robin McKinley, I read the book Water: Tales of Elemental Spirits. It was fantastic. I think I have a couple of her books on my to read list as well.

You are so right though, a lot of good authors don't get half the recognition they deserve and their books are never properly advertised. While another book (sometimes poorly written) becomes popular overnight.
Maybe authors like Diana Wynne Jones and Robin McKinley are just to creative for the masses. Their books aren't "simple" enough for some people.

(Although that part in Howl's moving castle about his real family... @_@)

Yay for Diana Wynne Jones! I read the Chronicles of Chrestomanci when I was younger, as well as Fire and Hemlock. Please tell me that you guys have stumbled across The Tough Guide to Fantasyland? Because it's hilarious, and I think you might get a kick out of it.

The whole thing poses as a dictionary to commonly found terms in the world of Fantasy... while, at the same time, serving as an excellent parody. Observe:

Quote:
Smells are everywhere and strong, and, except for those of ENCHANTRESSES and INCENSE, unpleasant. Even DANGER has a smell-- the REEK OF WRONGNESS. There is something in the chemistry of the land that makes Smells. It is probably a fallout effect of MAGIC, but see also SOCKS and TROUSERS.

....

Socks are never worn in Fantasyland. People thrust their feet, usually unwashed, straight into BOOTS.

It's quite lovely. Even comes with a color coding system for people! If you are red-haired and green-eyed, for example, you're probably an enchantress who knows lots of magic. There is always, of course, a talented youth on your Journey with you... a travelling companion, if you will... and he may or may not really be a Princess in Disguise. Yet if he is, one musn't point it out-- bad manners.

Makes me smile.

Hello all! Have you ever heard of Christmas-and-Easter Christians? I seem to be a School-Break-Only Menewshan. It's saddening, for I like this place. I missed you guys! I'll be around for a bit today. School starts up again next week with a project due date, though, so I'm likely not to be exactly ubiquitous around the forums during this break.

'Ello Massage. Don't believe we've met before. I'm Aislin.

Dream- Thanks for the info! ^.^

Ah, Diana Wynne Jones conversation time?! I LOVE her. Her books do need more recognition! And no, Howl's Moving Castle does not count in the slightest. It butchered the book. I haven't seen it, and I never will, but I know enough about it to know that is did.

I've read a fair few of her books, I'm slowly trying to work my way through all of them that are for teen and adult readers. I think so far I've read Howl's Moving Castle, Castle in the Air, House of Many Ways, Dogsbody, Conrad's Fate, Dark Lord Of Derkholm, Year of the Griffin, The Tough Guide to Fantasyland, The Game, and The Merlin Conspiracy. I loved all of them, excpet The Merlin Conspiracy, which I only liked, not loved, and The Game, which was a good read but I wasn't terribly fond of it, charming as the characters were.

As for Robin McKinley, I tried to read Dragonhaven by her, but I couldn't get into it. :/ It was more the writing style I didn't like than the content, really. Since the writing style was specific to that character, though, perhaps I'll give some of her other books a try. Do any of you know of any of her books that might be in third person? Dragonhaven was first person, and I'm not a huge fan of those to begin with.

Hey Aislin! *waves* How are you?
