I made whipped cream today for a strawberry (mini) shortcake. It's so easy! Why haven't I been doing this more often? lol It's more satisfying knowing I made it myself!

I'm totally subscribing to this. I love to cook, but I'm not very good at it, and now that I live alone I'm always looking for recipes and things to try.

Hm..the last thing I tried was making a roast in a slow cooker. I know that doesn't sound like much, but I was really proud! It was the first grownup meal I made for myself. It had the meat, potatoes, carrots, and I let those slow cook over night and while I was at work, then when I got home, I drained off the water, added cream of mushroom soup, and let that cook until it was hot. Mm...
I think the most complicated thing I've ever made was once, I made a cheesecake from scratch. I separated out the cheese cake filling into several different bowls, added a bright food coloring to each bowl, then poured it into the pan and cut through it with a knife to gently swirl the colors together. That was years ago though

Ooh yum! Man, I want a slow cooker XD
The cheesecake color swirling seems like a fun idea. I've never tried that before. Then again, I've never tried a baked cheesecake. Want to get a proper springform pan for that.

I think living alone is what got me cooking, too. I lived alone for two years, and I sometimes used a good meal to encourage friends to come over when I had nothing else to do. We aren't the "just hang out" type. lol
Are you guys familiar with the Slow Food Movement?

Serenus, you'll need to put that recipe in quote tags since it's not yours. :)
Tonight I'm going to be experimenting with dinner a bit and making something up. My idea is to boil pasta in vegetable broth, sautee onion and asparagus in margarine, combine the two and season it with some salt, pepper, basil, italian seasoning and feta. Kind of light and a bit italian. But I think it needs something else, I'm just not sure what. Anyone have any ideas?

The Slow Food Movement is an organization battling the fast food philosophy and the shrinkage of mealtimes. It started in Italy I believe and has spread throughout Europe and other continents. It promotes cooked meals, unprocessed real food in grocery stores and cafeterias, longer lunch times, and homemade dinners eaten together at a table.
And if any of that is wrong, it's at least what I take from it.

Some of our tags are borked, yeah. :(
So I made up a meal last night (mentioned a few posts ago), and it was really good! I'd like to share the recipe with you guys, but I'm bad with doing exact measurements when I'm making stuff up. But I could give an approximation if anyone's interested. :) Either way, I'm just really glad that it worked out!

I kind of threw together a recipe last night too, but I'm also bad with exact measurements, so if anyones interested in my sort of recipe, let me know! It was a chicken and rice casserole thing. Its not perfect, but I thought it was pretty good.

Oo okay
I've never written a recipe before, so here it goes! lol
Quote:
1 cup of cooked, white rice
1 pound of cooked, cut up chicken *cut size to taste*
1 can of Campbells Broccoli and Cheese soup
1 cup of milk
3 cups of frozen broccoli
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
Preheat the oven to 425. Mix the uncooked soup and milk in a separate bowl, it was still kind of gooey and separate looking for me, but it still turned out okay. Place rice in the bottom of a casserole dish (I used an 8x8 glass dish). Add cooked chicken and frozen broccoli, then the soup/milk mixture. Place in the oven uncovered for about 40 minutes, or until broccoli is tender. When broccoli is tender, remove from oven and sprinkle with cheese (really however much you want, I just really like cheese >>) while dish is still hot.
|
Now I'm no chef or baking whiz, so if there's a better way to do this, I'm all ears. It was pretty tasty to me, but I'll eat almost anything with cheese.
>>
OH OH Cherry, since you're a vegetarian, I have to ask. DO you have a recipe for veggie lasagna? I had it years ago, an old roommate of mine made it , and it was the best lasagna I ever had. He and I aren't on speaking terms anymore, and I've been hankering for some of that lasagna.
