Jack shrugged. " We have two more of them..." She walked over to the pile of stuff, and pulled out the other two tarps. This should make it strong enough... I hope."

erik nodded.
"hopefully that'll do it..."
sizing up the tarp and planning out every inch.

Jack looked at the tarps, then at the frame. "Should we nail them all on together, or one at a time?"

erik thought.
"i think, one at a time... that way, if one rips off, there'll be another below it..."
nodding.

Jack nodded. "We should probably nail them down all the way around the frame too, not just in the corners."

erik nodded.
"we want them as secure as we can get them... don't want anything to catch..."
pulling the tarp taught as he planned.

Jack nodded. "We could nail one down, all the way around, with some gaps, then put down the next one, and do the same, with fewer gaps. After that, we can put on the last one, without any gaps. I think that should hold it."

erik nodded surely.
"yea, that sounds good..."
standing up and grabbing the necessary tools.

Jack held the edge of the tarp tight to the frame, waiting for Erik to nail it in place.

erik took the queue and started nailing the tarp in, being careful not to accidentally hit himself or jack with the hammer.

Jack held the tarp and still as possible, looking out over the sea of zombies. She sighed, looking back to the task at hand. "This seems so stupid... like maybe we are crazy, or it's a dream... Think about it. We are trapped on a roof of a super market, surrounded by a sea of zombies, building a sled to carry supplies and trying to get to a 'safe zone' that is over a damned mountain range!"

erik sighed and shrugged, finishing the nail.
"well, maybe that's just because our view is skewed... bad things have happened before, some may say, even worse than this... our situation isn't that bad, just really tough... we can do it, just gotta try hard..."
taking another nail and preparing it, before tapping it in as well.

Jack shook her head. "I know some things are worse, but this is pretty out there. Would you believe it if someone told you about this, and you hadn't seen any proof?"

erik shrugged, finishing the nail and grabbing another.
"probably not. but at least, i'd let them prove it to me."
nodding as he started hammering.

Jack laughed. "I can't wait to tell people about this. I wish I had a camera...."

erik chuckled and nodded.
"oh yea, me too... but i guess, they probably already know about it..."
finishing with that nail and starting on another.
"if they came from the city, chances are, people already know about it."

Jack nodded. "Before the T.V. cut out, it said that it happened in all the major cities on the globe."

erik sighed.
"yea. so this is gonna be tough, but i think it also means there's a better chance we'll survive..."
nodding and finishing with that nail, picking up another.

Jack looked over at him, raising an eyebrow, the rings in it sparkling in the sun. "Why would you say that?"

erik chuckled.
"in times of peril, historically, humans shine the best... and become the strongest... therefor, the more peril...."
finishing with that nail and looking up at jack.
"the stronger humans get."
he smiled warmly, then picked up another nail.

"But if the zombies are everywhere, what is there to do? There won't be anywhere thats safe for long..."

erik nodded surely.
"nope. nowhere."
finishing with the nail, then looking back to jack.
"so, we'll make somewhere."

Jack sighed. "But how can we keep a place safe? Something is bound to happen to compromise the safety of it."

erik shrugged.
"then we'll just fight them off, and rebuild. people may die, but we'll survive as a race... and if we're strong, and lucky, we may very well live till the end."
nodding and picking up another nail.

Jack smiled faintly. "I hope so." In her heart, she doubted this, but saw no point in saying so. She returned her full attention to the tarp, tightening it across the wooden frame.
