Final Fantasy XII is probably my favorite one in the series with Balthier and Ashe being my favorite characters.

I haven't played FF12 yet. A friend of mine said I could borrow it anytime I wanted but I haven't been able to make it out to his dorm to get it.

Some people didn't like it as much because of the battle system but I actually love how the battle system was done.

@Liztress: Mine too. Except my favorite characters are Balthier and Larsa. But Ashe is close third.
I liked the battle system too. You still have to use strategy, but in a different way. It was refreshing.

@Scribbled: It's a really good game. I hope you get a chance to play it.

How is the battle system different from the previous incarnations of FF? Is it not turn based like it has been in the past?

It's more active time based.

You can tell it to do a certain action when certain conditions have been met. You can override what it does if necessary. It works pretty well in my opinion.

Similar to Kingdom Hearts then?

Yes, similar. Although to compare the two, I kind of like being able to hack and slash away at enemies like in Kingdom Hearts a bit more. I guess Final Fantasy XII is kind of like a combination between the other games in the series and Kingdom Hearts.

Wow, we've really got quite a discussion going here. Way to grow a thread, S.L. Your skills of thread development are undeniable. Alomst makes me want to be online more.

You are such a butt kisser, CZ. Also you didn't actually contribute anything to the conversation except to cause it to derail a little bit. Bleh. :feesh:

It's been years since Kingdom Hearts was released and I still don't know how I feel about the combat system. I never got really too into the game and so I've never really spent a lot of time using that combat system but I remember enjoying it on a very basic level in the beginning of the game. Later on after the characters have increased in power? Not sure.

A type of game that I really like playing but hardly ever get a chance to are the games like Final Fantasy Tactics, the original, and Disgaea. I haven't played Disgaea on the larger systems but I'm looking at picking it up for the DS (so CZ can play Tenchu on the PS2 while I game on my own - yay, DS!).

I would also like to find the Valkyrie games to play on my own.

I've never played Tactics but it's been on my "to play" list. I know one of my friends enjoyed it.
I've wanted to try the Valkyrie games to. I'll get around to it eventually.
Right now though I'm playing the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Awesome game. I don't know why it took me this long to buy it.

I forgot what console that was released on. I've been thinking about picking it up but I vaguely recall it being similar to a platform jumper and I'm really bad with those kind of games. Oddly enough, God of War, and it's sequel, is a game I really enjoy playing in spite of it's platform-esque qualities.

To pick up the original Final Fantasy Tactics is going to be tricky and if you don't do it relatively soon it may be prohibitively expensive. I was checking on Amazon and a used copy of Final Fantasy Tactics was around a $100. It's an added insult to injury for me because I had a nearly complete collection of the Final Fantasy games until a roommate decided to make off with some of them right before they moved out of our shared place. :gonk:

If you own a PS3 and have a PSN account, you can purchase a digital copy of Tactics. I recommend the game and even the PSP port if you own a PSP. Disgaea is a series I love too. Other good RPGs to look into if you haven't played them are the Persona series and the Digital Devil Saga series. Currently, I've been playing some Star Ocean: The Last Hope International. Oh! That is another series worth looking into.

At this point in my life I'm not willing to shell out the money for a PS3. I'd rather buy a Wii for the multi-player games and an XBox 360 for the single player titles like Fable 1&2 and Mass Effect 1&2. There's not a lot of things that my partner and I can do together right aside from read in companionable silence and watch movies or television. It makes games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Rock Band look that more attractive.

*blatantly jumps in on conversation*

I hope to get a PS3 pretty soon. Final Fantasy XIII's got me all kinds of tingly. And of course it'll be nice to not just sit on the sidelines with my PS2, which I still love. *huggles my PS2* I do hope to get a Wii someday, if finances allow it. I do think there are lots of very interesting Wii titles, but it's not at the top of my game priorities.

I've been a long time Sony supporter, but I have to admit that the 360 more than peaks my interest. That's all squashed though by the continued reports of the dreaded Red Ring of Death. D:

:ninja: *ninja out of conversation* :P

Prince of Persia is for the PS2. It is a platform jumper, but it's really fun. It can be challenging, but the story is awesome. It's different than any game I've played.
Good grief. That's a lot of money for a game. O_O

@Liztress: I do have a PS3. I haven't taken the time to figure out the PSN yet. I'll have to look into it. That's probably the way to go.
I was thinking about getting Persona 4 but I didn't know much about it at the time. It looks really good though.
I've played Star Ocean: 'Til the End of Time. That was a fun game. I liked it a lot. I haven't played any of the other games in the series yet.
I really want to get a PSP. I'll probably wait until the price goes down even more though. I really need to get a job first.

It's so pricey because they're not making and selling the game anymore. It was originally for the PS1. You either get it in mint condition and factory sealed because someone bought it for resale or you get it used and pray to your deity it works properly.

Edit:

I'm lucky in that I'll be able to play FF13 without having to buy it or the console. :XD A friend of mine will play the game and then conquer it and afterwards it'll be open for visitors to play. It's a good system - we moochers bring snacks and soda in compensation as well as good conversation and cheer.

It means he rarely buys his own snacks and never lacks for good company. I think it's a fantastic system we have set up but it's definitely not something every group of friends can do.

I wish more of my friends played video games and watched anime etc. I mean I love all my friends, but they really aren't into the same things I am. It would be nice to have a friend in real life that I could talk to about stuff like that.

Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from. Most of my friends live out of town or out of state. Actually, one of my closer friends just moved out of state to the other end of the country. There's not anyone in the town I live in that I can play video games with or watch anime with except my partner.

The town that I live in has a branch of a bigger university and a community college but the town is mostly older folk and factory workers. There are activities going on but you have to look really, really hard. We managed to find out about a D&D campaign that'll be starting up in April but that's still about a month away. In the mean time I've been monopolizing the computer when CZ doesn't have homework to do to hang out here on Menewsha and talk to new people.

We do a lot of traveling to see friends. It's always at least an hour of town to see a friend or see my family.

I've been on the computer a lot too. There's just not much going on here unless, as you said, you look really hard. And I have no idea where all the people my age are because the only place I meet any is at school. And I don't really want to hang around there all the time.
