And I shudder every time I hear one on the streets and wish well to the person they're going to or taking to hospital in thoughts. The siren makes me want to cover my ears and sit down or better yet, curl up. Especially horrible when outside home and it's going down my home's direction... I worry for my mother who has so many health problems, especially heart.
But yeah it's deeply individual thing.

I just, am kind of compassionate in that sense? And feel awful for those people that need that ambulance. Besides, we live close to a cross on street where car crashes happen very often. It's like that place is cursed. So in summer you can hear police and ambulance going there nearly every week, or used to. And I've seen people dying there, when once me and mom were coming home at that time short after a crash... And that leering crowd, greedily drinking in all the details, ambulance siren.... *shudder*

I am from type that's totally chill about my own blood, but as soon it's a drop out of someone else I get quezy and feel all around awful.

@___@ Iunno. I guess I've always associated ambulances with paramedics and doctors. So more heroic than tragic.

My trip was for my appendix.
I had gone to an Urgent Care center.
They said they thought it was appendix, so they sent me to an ER.
I went to the nearest ER. They started me on a morphine IV, did a cat scan, and said..."Yup. Appendix. Unfortunately, we don't have a surgeon on call or a bed, so you have to go to this other hospital."
Since they couldn't send me out with an IV in my arm, they sent me in an ambulance to the other hospital.
Then insurance refused to pay cuz the ambulance didn't mark it as emergent care, and the ambulance company started calling and calling saying I owed them $2500.
I finally got it straightened out with my insurance company, and it only cost us $250.

I say a prayer every time I hear a siren. I was working with toddlers reading them a story when I heard a siren. I paused and said a silent prayer. Got weird look from my toddlers.

I am not saying doctors and paramedics aren't heroic, but that's heroism based on tragedy.
Anyways. Last cheshire top obtained. So now I should be working on purrty tops but it's half past 2am and I am sleepy...

You could've explained them, Kirin, made the little ones think a bit. :) It's the little things that teach us to be compassionate. But maybe you did? not sure from your story.

No I just went back to the story. I didn't want to over step my bounds and tell them things their parents wouldn't want to tell them.

I would have said I was sending happy wishes to the one who needed a doctor and left the prayer part out as to not overstep bounderies.

That would have worked but I don't have a TARDIS so I can't go back and do that. But I will keep that in mind for next time.

But maybe they would want to. xD
It doesn't have to be much, just the siren means someone is suffering right now and I prayed for them/wished them well. XD
Of course, still your choice and you know better for your situation.

I don't mind if people pray in front of me.
Religious people don't make it a big deal when others don't pray when they do. So nonreligious people shouldn't make it a big deal when others pray when they don't!

I have to agree there. I'm not religious, but it doesn't bug me. And my family is religious so I am used to sitting at the table while they say grace and just being quiet while it's done. -shrug- It's their right as it's mine to abstain. They don't mind and I dont.

Very true. I have a great story about praying and nonreligious people.
