"No" Holly said walking over to the doorway. "I'm going outside to take a walk." She turned back and looked at both of them. She hoped they understood what she was going through. "Be back in the kitchen by 6 if you want dinner." Holly walked down the hallway and out the door moving quickly out of sight from the house. As soon as she couldn't see the house anymore she slowed her pace and walked around the winding trails of the grounds.

Rayn's ears drooped, and he watched Holly go with a sad expression. When she had gone, the Cath turned his gaze back to Sam. Nuzzling her cheek, he purred lightly.

Things would turn out alright. They had to.

Holly kept walking till she came to the edge of the glass dome. She sat down and watched outside of it. The endless world that unknown to her. Holly smiled at the falling flakes and studied them closely. Something about them made her wonder. They were all different. Just like ever slave brought in here. The came and went as she tried to count completely unaware of what went on around her.

After waiting with Sam for many minutes, the girl finally drifted into sleep. Rayn carefully slipped away from her, stepping out into the hallway and sniffing the air. It was a while before he found out where Holly had gone. Looking out the window to see her at the border, the Cath ended up jogging out to stand beside her.
The warm sun against his bare skin made him feel happy, and the warmth soaked into his loose pants as well. Life here was so . . . peaceful. Moving so he was a few inches away from his owner, the young man let out a slight purr, brushing against her arm lightly.
"What are you thinking?" he asked in a growling voice . . . after all, he didn't speak often. His yellow eyes locked on the girl's face, and he tilted his head, ears perked.

Holly jumpped when Rayn spoke. She turned and smiled slightly. "They're all different, it's amazing there are so many yet not a single one is alike. How is that possable?"

"Don't know," the Cath purred, looking out at the snow. "I like to avoid it as much as I can." He shivered slightly. "It's too cold." Where he came from, snow meant winter, and winter meant little prey. It meant staying inside your den, hoping that you'll make it until Spring alive.
Rayn shook his layered brown hair out of his eyes, looking back to Holly. "Do you ever get cold?"

"Cold? What exactly do you mean? In here it's never under 69º, I don't really know what being cold feels like." Holly said laying back on the grass and using magic to make a small cloud above Rayn and her. Small flakes fell. They all looked the same and as they hit skin the flakes felt warm

Rayn flinched as the first of the snow touched his skin, but then relaxed when he realized it was only an imitation. "It makes you hurt," he said, sitting down beside the girl. "It feels like death." And it takes lives ruthlessly.
Looking down to Holly, he watched her face as he spoke.
"Maybe you'll feel it someday. But I hope I'm there to keep you alive when you do."

Holly sat up and the cloud dissappeared. She reached out and hugged Rayn. "I swear someday I'll get you and Sam out of here." Holly whispered laying back on the ground with a tiny smile on her face.

"Don't hurt yourself trying," the Cath said, purring slightly. Wrapping his lean arms about his owner's shoulders, he gave her a hug before she lay back down. Sitting crosslegged beside the girl, he watched her small smile. His brown ears shifted toward the woman, and his tail flicked about beside him as he observed her. There were a few moments of quiet before he tilted his head and spoke.
"Do you think Sam will be okay?" His yellow eyes narrowed, but he kept his gaze on Holly's face. "Should I leave her alone?"

"I hope she'll be ok, I don't really know what to do. I'm not trying to be mean to her, or you, but I don't know, everything is so confusing right now." Holly closed her eyes not wanting Rayn to see how painful this was for her.

"You're doing fine," the Cath said, letting out another growling purr. "Life has it's ups and downs." With a sigh, Rayn lay down beside Holly, gazing up at the sky. "We just have to go through them with you now." After all, we belong to you. He sniffed, his tail flicking over to brush against the girl's leg. "And I don't know about her, but I don't know what it's like to be a slave."
Already his use of the human language, which all Cath knew but rarely used, grew stronger. He could speak in full sentences, and was even beginning to enjoy talking with others.
Reaching a tanned hand over to Holly's, he laced his fingers in hers. "Maybe we just have to get used to one another." He turned his head to look at the girl. "Show us how to be your slaves, and we will do it." He purred quietly, a lopsided smile on his face. "I'll make her do it."

"No, I don't want you to be slaves, I needed someone my age who I could talk to and be friends with." Holl squeesed Rayn's hand lightly. "I wish everyone was this easy to talk to." She smiled and looked over to the Cath. "Do you still have family out there?" Holly asked. If he did someday she would get him out of here no matter what. Family was important.

Rayn smiled slightly. "I don't have family anymore," he said quietly. "Cath don't have family once they leave their parents. We're out on our own once we leave the den." Looking back to the sky, the brown-haired youth closed his eyes. "We make our own families." He paused. "Like this one."

Holly stared at him for a moent before smiling. For the first time in her long life the witch felt a sence of love and trust. Tears fell down her cheeks. "You have no idea how much that means to me." She whispered sitting up wishing she had always known Rayn.
