Long's pixel art
I am by no means a computer artist. I don't own a tablet. I don't even have a mouse! So this took me a very long time and I had to do it a second time because I saved the file wrong and the colors corrupted or whatever. I would like tips from other people, programs, techniques etc.
I made it because I see all these really cute little pixels of Homestuck characters but none of my favorite. So this is Nanasprite from Homestuck. I saved it as a .png after first making it in Paint and then re-making it in GIMP. Flat colors because I don't know how to shade. crazy uneven lines because I don't know what I'm doing. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...hoohoohoo2.png Let me know what you think, and how I can improve I would like to make more of these little things and maybe move onto mene-edits. |
I did a second one! I didn't give this one a transparent background. But this time it's my own character!

D'aww. They're cute~
Since they're so small, I wouldn't worry too much about detailed shading. Or you could do away with the outlines of them and have shading instead. [yes] For smoother-looking lines, you could try anti-aliasing. Check out this tutorial: Pixel Joint Forum: The Pixel Art Tutorial As always, the look is going to depend upon what you're going for. Thank you Iku. I'm probably going to have that link favorited very soon. It packed with helpful info!!
I did try shading a picture last night. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...st/tinyowl.png and did a second set of little guys. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...ist/supes2.gif |
Owl! [lol] Try block shading for the owl, instead of dithering. [ninja]
|
Thanks Iku. I'll have to try that with the owl. I'm using block and dithering (I think) on a Molamola.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...t/molawork.png I have that link open the whole time I'm working. It's a great reference! |

My first avi edit. I'm still working on it and I would like some helpful tips and pointers. |
Art update!!

All characters from a Deviant art club I'm part of. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...ps76bda402.gifhttp://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...psdb751127.pnghttp://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a1/...ps99d56ff5.gif |
Oooh, those fishies are gorgeous - the blue one is my favorite!
|
Thank you! The green one is actually a tadpole, a baby frog. :3

Gosh those tiny people are cute. XD
Nice work on the fish and tadpole! You should try making them more cartoony for some more practice! For the dress, I'd suggest using a palette we already have (if you didn't already, that is) keeping in mind that not all palettes will work, and studying the form and flow of the dresses we have also. [yes] Right now, it's hard to discern the light source as it seems very bright on the whole front of it. |
Thank you. for now I'm going to put the dress on a back burner until I find a good reference picture. I am using existing Mene clothing to help with other projects I've started. It is very helpful.
I'll give a try on making them cartoony. |
