Okay! Updates!

Posted 07-24-2008 at 06:10 PM by Aryah_Jade

So... I haven't been on in a few days, I know. Couldn't be helped! But, while I was otherwise indesposed, I did get to look at the MAC. It helped me with my quest thread! Now, my list of items I'm trying for right now will actually make one whole outfit!
Anyway, I've also decided that I like being the kind of person who doesn't flip-flop on their opinions of others... if I'm mad at someone, or just don't like them I think I have every right to keep right on going in my feelings and opinions of that person. Granted, I can be civil. I don't have to be a bitch about it. After all, I grew up with two sisters... I know how to ignore people!

My blog has a pattern! O_o

Posted 07-24-2008 at 05:57 PM by Nothingness (The Blog of Nothingness)

It does! At least, it looks like it does to me. . .

Anyways, um, I forgot about Comic Con. . It started today or yesterday, right? I was going to go, since I have relatives in the area, but I forgot about it 'cos I was too busy being lazy. Maybe next year. I'll save up money for buying all the random souvenirs I can. And if I can come up with a good idea, maybe I'll make a costume . . I can't believe I forgot. I feel a lot less geeky now. T_T I need to go memorize the lyrics to some Weird Al songs or something so I can feel geeky again.

Maybe I shouldn't go. I'd flip out if I saw anyone who I think is awesome. . Or any of the people who I have grown to hate with a passion that I used to idolize (okay, I only know three that fit into that category, and I doubt they'll be there, and no, I will not be clarifying who those three are, I don't want people mobbing me with pitchforks). I don't like squealing like an idiot in front of a bunch of people. . . But I always make myself look stupid, so I might as well do it in front of a bunch of people and gain fame on YouTube. . .

Wait, why am I blogging about this in the first place? Am I really that dull of a person that I don't have anything to blog about other than a convention I forgot about and really want to go to? Oh, wait, I know the answer to that, and it's yes.

. . . I better stop blogging now. My blog posts are getting progressively more stupid. Thank goodness nobody reads them. . . Right?

(The radiator has a hole in it. I'm at work, which is an hour away from my house.)

But onto a topic more relevant to what I was going to post--say, that topic itself? :)

People. They mean well; I really think that they do. But really, society has got them well and truly fucked. (This isn't an anarchy speech. I don't trust people to govern themselves, unfortunately. But the government tends to but in where it's unneeded.)

This has come into my mind several times lately, and I think that I've finally cornered it and forced it into coherency--but I make no guarantees. I'll start with a few questions--why is marijuana illegal? Why is prostitution illegal? (And this is the bonus question--why is homosexual marriage still illegal in so many locations?)

Okay. I understand that drugs in general aren't great. Things that induce false sensations, reduce your abilities and all of that sort of thing are NOT the best medications to be running around on. But I don't notice anyone outlawing tobacco and alcohol. (In fact, as I recall, things didn't go so well when alcohol was outlawed.) So why not allow marijuana? It's not as harmful as most drugs--less harmful than alcohol, anyway--and isn't likely to give you a "bad trip", like other assorted illegal narcotics. It would undoubtedly help our economy--and it could be grown from inside. If it was legalized, then the government could pass laws regulating it--in a similar fashion to how they have regulated tobacco and alcohol--and turn their attention to more serious crimes.

A man who was dealing marijuana can get a longer sentence than a rapist around here. Even for those who argue against all narcotics--in what way is that just? Not a heroin dealer or a cocaine dealer, but a marijuana dealer.

Moving on to prostitution. Granted, it's morally ambiguous to some. I don't see myself ever visiting a prostitute. But think about the fact that while having sex with five men in a week isn't illegal, having sex with two men in a week IS illegal if you accept payment for it.

If you have sex with a man who takes you out for dinner once a week, and your relationship consists of little more--doesn't that count as a different form of prostitution? Just less objectionable. I know someone who agreed to going out on a date under the condition that his partner for the evening purchase him a rare Yu-Gi-Oh! card from eBay. But that's legal?

If prostitution were legal, the same things would go on that already do--the only difference would be that there would be protection for those who get hurt.

If the law would allow the innocent things that hurt nobody to go free, then they could (hopefully) concentrate more on more serious crimes.

Seriously. Would you rather have your local law enforcement tracking down a prostitute, or a murderer? Which is a better use of their time? Which should be a higher priority? A prostitute won't hurt you. The most that would be able to happen is that you try to cheat him/her and get what you would for cheating any businessperson, or you receive an STD--which laws could require prostitutes to warn their potential customers.

I have more to say on the matter. I'm going to try to space it out. If you have comments--rebuttals--you agree for different reasons--I'd love to hear them.
