Online Communities

Posted 05-19-2008 at 09:00 PM by Faithom

I wonder why online avatar communities are so popular? Or even just online communities in general. You'd think that in a fast evolving world that keeping our friends in real life close to us would be work enough... I, of course, am guilty of immersing myself in the online world. Why do I do it?

Hm, that's a really good question. I would say that I'm bored... but I consistently log on even when I do have things to do - important things included. In those periods of time that I do manage to pull myself away from the internet I begin to feel a little guilty sometimes about neglecting my account, pulling back the other people that may have been in the same RP I was in, or simply testing the patience of commisioners in my artshops that may never even get their commission from me. I'm constantly wondering whether or not it's worth it, to spend so much time and effort into constructing my own virtual world and person, changing pieces of artwork for pixels to simply dress up my avatar to be admired by others for my taste... of which, in real life, I have very little. I have never purchased expensive clothes or like cared much for particular designers, but here, online, it's all about making my little avatar looking cool and trendy.

I signed up for Menewsha about 1 year or so ago, and I haven't started playing until 3 days ago when one of my dA buddies brought it up. Well, she actually mentioned it like, 2 months ago, but I just never got around to checking Menewsha out until now. I do like the fact that it's just like Gaia... though I think that the fact I haven't visisted Gaia in 3 days is a sign that I'm quickly getting addicted to this site. xD Ah well, I suppose we'll see.
