I think that this is because we generally have nightmares about irrational fears, like the dark, zombies, or ghosts to name but a few.
I think the fact that we [i]confront[/i] these fears in our dreams, and then wake without harm, is our subconscious telling us that these things are nothing to be afraid of.
I said this at dinner, and my dad responded by saying that he dreamed he was being nagged by our mum, but when he woke up it came true.
