I love the event, though must admit the wording is a bit bad about the yarn.

I agree the wording is weird about the yarn but I think it basically goes like this:
Greed has all the yarn. Greed hands out one yarn every 10 minutes.
Channah needs yarn for the scarf. Give her the yarn and the bar goes up.
Yarn buys neat stuff from the event store. Buy stuff with the yarn and the bar goes down.
The bar is barely up, so it looks like Greed is winning :'(
