New rules for User-Run events!

The staff have created a User-Run Event Guide & Rules thread for those considering running a user-run event in the future!

Please keep in mind that running a full user-run event now requires fees to be paid as a way to ensure those who are running an event are fully committed to doing so.

Please read over the guide and ask us questions in this thread if you have any. :) We want for this guide to be as clear and useful as possible. ;)

Before anyone asks - The up-coming Circus event will be excused from most of these new fees. I will be posting a notice in their thread to let them know which. ;)

Nice to see these up ^^ hopefully we'll have some more successful ones in the future now ^^

Thank you for this CK... I am going to be talking this over with the rest of the circus crew to see that we make sure the event runs smoothly.. I was one of those back up assistants you mentiond to have just in case..lol :)

I should've nabbed first post earlier, but anyway... BESIDE THE POINT. 8D;

I'm so happy to hear this! Finally some sort of way to PROMOTE User-Run events! I'm glad, because now I feel inspired/motivated to think up my own. (:

Thanks for this, guys! And I hope the fees aren't too high for someone who's decently-off on here to afford.

This is great to see - thank you ^^

Interesting read. I'll keep it in mind if I ever think about coming up with an event. : )

ps, CK changed her hair again. -saves-

Hmmm...not sure if I like the idea of being charged fees and such, but I'll go read over it first.

This is a good idea, this way there are some restrictions for the User Run events... there was one point where they were popping up left and right and it was getting kind of annoying xD
So, thanks!

I know what you mean...

I like what the FAQ said about people not caring for user-run events. xD

I think the fees are too cheap.

Great guide!

Haha well I believe I was pretty dedicated to making my event the best event it could possibly be...

Well - they may be raised in the future... Or they may be lowered. It'll depend on what seems to work best for the community. We don't want to entirely discourage user-run events - just weed out the events that people throw together without being fully committed to it. :)

No one said that every user-run event was shoddy or anything. :) They've all had varying degrees of success. The guide and rules aren't to mock previous events, but to encourage future events to be even better. :yes:

Lejic 05-31-2009 07:09 AM

I think this guideline is great. The fees aren't discouraging, so that's good; and the tips are very good. Events seem easy when you first want to make one but things get tricky when you actually start planning one. =P And success can be so random. XD You've gotta do all you can do to raise the odds though, of course.

Great to see this up...

Titenya 06-16-2009 03:10 PM

I personally think that putting these restrictions on will hurt mene... though I haven't been active since the forum changed to the new layout (and since it gives me migraines I rarely come to visit any more)

As some one who helped run a user event back in 2007 I think it's sad to see this happening... I don't participate in official events any more because I don't like how things are run... and with the looks of this it seems that there won't be as many good user evens any more either... oh well...

user events were one of the things that made this place special and different form all the other avatar sites, because the staff here really listened and appreciated the regular users... I guess this is just turning into a less commercial version of Gaia after all... oh well...

CK 06-16-2009 11:50 PM

I'm not sure what rules, precisely, you think will hinder and not help user-run events be better, Titenya.

Sizzla 06-18-2009 02:20 PM

I'm curious about that too CK, because I believe the new rules ensure that user events will be more successful than they have been in the past, because we actually have requirements that encourage the users to be serious about the events they plan instead of throwing things together willy-nilly...

CK 06-19-2009 03:00 AM

I'm fully willing to listen to specific reasons and arguments for doing things differently than the rules currently state. You just have to convince me that a rule should be altered because it hinders events, is all. XD;
