Hmm... I think if the blue
<------HERE------->
Had some island themed image it would help to promote that island feel and hmm... you could incorperate a little bit of music throughout the site in special areas... I can't think of any ideas except one... but the home page could have some sound... to make the site more appealing =3 like islandish sounds...

strange_dreams_512 07-13-2010 04:19 AM

Lol reminds me of neopets like a world map and such xD

I never joined Mene because I liked anime. infact, i loathe anime. I joined because I like fashion design, and I like pixel dolls. Also because I like forum environments.
But you're right. I joined Mene in 2007, and while I've never been a consistant regular, through the years my interests have changed slightly and overall I just don't spend much time in front of the computer anymore. But, I donate when I can and I always pop in from time to time. But looking at your numbers, my $5-$15 per month seems almost redundant. But I know it isn't.
So i'll make you a deal.... I'll continue to donate at least once per month, and you keep this cozy little forum around for me to pop into, okay? deal?

Facade 07-13-2010 05:06 AM

The other thing to note about Mene is that, not only is it an island, but its name is also derived from the word minutia.

Quote:

minutia - noun - Usually, minutiae. precise details; small or trifling matters.
...Of course, I don't know 100% whether it's based off the word 'minutia,' but I know it was a discussion of some kind years ago. :P Not sure if Joshimitsu (the original site creator) really took inspiration for the site name from the word minutia. It's been too long. :gonk:

The Wandering Poet 07-13-2010 07:20 AM

Woah O.o that's.... really funny XD

So I was told he bought it for like a buck... (the name)
Edit - Ah... here it is:

So we're quite proud of the name, Menewsha, considering the obstacles the original owner had to go through to get the name.

jellysundae 07-13-2010 07:30 AM

Yeah, Josh bought the name for £1  THIS is the domain's original use.

The Wandering Poet 07-13-2010 07:43 AM

O.o woah... I've seen that before (the link)... weird... though I like rando's story better :P

Marguerite Blakeney 07-13-2010 10:10 AM

I miss the old Mene banners XD God, it's been such a long time since this place opened. I can't believe I was around since then. @[email protected]

Yeah, I did not know this site was anime like. I just love to dress up my avatar and chat with all the wonderful people here.

star2000shadow 07-13-2010 01:28 PM

well you could have a member thing, like you pay $$$ a month and have a few privaleges,a private forum or a game that earns you Mene money, or items only those people who 'subscribe' for a set amount of months or so get. i mean i know i wouldn't like it but it would offer a way for revanue. many places do that. Such as 'only cause their all i can think of' DragonFable, if you get the member thing, which admitedly is a one time payment but we'll ignore that for the moment, you get a dragon and a few other things, like stronger wepons and such, but it does provide an income. so maybe have games or something that those who pay a subscription fee can afford and have them set up like 'three months, six months, a year' or something witha higher bill price. maybe have a member store or something. im just throwing htse out..

strange_dreams_512 07-13-2010 10:17 PM

I added comments about all of this on the front page of my website and my mom looked at my updates and saw it. What she suggested was to come out with an e-book of some sort.

star- When I think about special forums that can only be accessed by special members, it makes me feel weird. Like, it would disturb unity in a sense, which is something that menewsha has. When it is something like taking off all ads or making maybe special colors of skin sets, I think that would keep unity a bit more. A membership idea has been brought up at least a few times in this thread, and it is good to know that another person has it in their head with ideas. Personally I like the game idea better just because that is something we do on our own anyways. If it is something like making it so that we can't talk to who we want to in a certain thread or forum, I think that would cut off some of the communication and make it so that some things would take longer for having to say it two or three times. Don't you think?

Pkero 07-13-2010 10:26 PM

If it meant keeping one of the only sites I go to that still has intelligent conversation as a basis, I'd be fine with seeing a few ads.

ljosberinn 07-13-2010 10:57 PM

Aw man. I was just thinking today I should cut down and just buy one set of CIs instead of two like I've done since I started donating.. purely because of economy reasons though, since I didn't get a proper job this summer, so funds are a bit low. Otherwise I'd definitely continue donating more because I think Mene is so worth it. :/
I'm looking forward to seeing some of the staff's ideas for how to solve this problem, and I'm glad to see you're being so honest with the users - hopefully you'll also let us know your ideas before you make a final decision. I just hope we can find something that works and will keep Mene alive.

Me, too. Ads aren't that bad, especially the Google text ads. Flickering banner ads are more annoying, but if it's the difference between a living Menewsha and a dead Menewsha, I wouldn't complain.

The Wandering Poet 07-14-2010 01:13 AM

Inso told me he wont be doing ads... but I think it should still be kept as a last resort to funding the site o.o

Hmm an interesting idea would be a joint payment for removing ads. Like combine membership with the bar with the ads.

Have the ads be removed once the bar reaches the money needed to help menewsha break even for that month, making it more of a joint community effort-type membership =3

strange_dreams_512 07-14-2010 01:17 AM

That is a really good idea in my opinion. : D Inso insoooo? :3

The Wandering Poet 07-14-2010 01:19 AM

Jelly said inso is napping... yes... an insomniac can sleep apparently...

strange_dreams_512 07-14-2010 01:22 AM

XD lol the irony. well I hope he hears about that awesome idea <3

The Wandering Poet 07-14-2010 01:55 AM

Seems he's just reading instead of posting lately... maybe he doesn't have time to post o.o (with the current standings of mene I'm sure he's busy)

King 07-14-2010 02:05 AM

Inso isn't pursuing ads because they aren't profitable.

I haven't posted this or commented on the situation, all I can say is chill. I think it's great that you guys are wanting to support the site, but the site has been this way for months. The plan is to turn this around within the next few months. Menewsha isn't dying, we just need to better pursue things. I keep seeing the "Save Menewsha" banner, in all honesty I feel like the effect (the aged effect) could be taken off and the banner could just say, "Support Menewsha".

Inso has been working on new ideas for a while. He's been preparing all these new updates to attract people in. He's already talked to most of the staff (including me) of his current intentions. Right now he's polishing the site and then he's contemplating pursuing the other markets, which he may or may not have told you which in particular.

All site's are going through this. Menewsha has hung on a long time. We have a very dedicated owner who is very capable of changing this place. Just my opinion as a user, not staff member. I admire how much you care about the site. I just don't want this attitude of, "Woah, it's Mene's last month isn't it!?! OMGAWD!".

Cemetery 07-14-2010 02:05 AM

I haven't been around much, I use to donate. But I don't anymore, Since I have to find a job now.
I'll do some shamelessness and see how many I can convince to join and help save the site. xD

strange_dreams_512 07-14-2010 02:10 AM

Yeah I guess that would make sense. I don't really know but I know that something needs to be done at least.

Cora 07-14-2010 04:19 AM

Cora missed so many pages, yikes o.0

Did I miss any important discussions?

scholar 07-14-2010 04:21 AM

@Cora: Apparently, you should replace your banner with the new "support Menewsha" one right above you, re: King's advice.

King, thanks for commenting on the situation. Still, I'm glad Inso brought this to the community's attention -- at least it gives those of us who support the site a chance to step up and say so.

Facade 07-14-2010 04:23 AM

Thanks so much for the banner update, Strange, as per King's advice. :)

And thanks, King, for the awesome post. :P
