Why not take a few sponsors from better sites that aren't completely annoying?
I know Tumblr and the annual Supercon would love to have us.

Cicadetta 07-11-2010 07:15 PM

I just used vampires and werewolves as prominent examples, Vex. Zombies are also coming up in the world, and I keep seeing more urban fae, so maybe that will be a growing thing, too. Or not. *shrugs*

Dottie Mae Evans 07-11-2010 07:15 PM

Quick question, if Menewsha "dies" or "shuts down"... will I be refunded through my mobile provider? I already paid $10USD worth of mobile charges through you guys. I only want my remaining $2.50USD refunded if you guys go under right this minute. >_<;

Anyways, please don't go under... I don't want to have to find a new addiction. #_#;

zazabar 07-11-2010 07:16 PM

@Lizzy
Probably not, since those were donations.

Note, I did not read the past 9 pages.... Just logged on.

I understand all these costs though, and unfortunately this is the cost of an amazing site. But if it helps keep Mene alive, I seriously wouldn't complain about ads on the sides of the site that don't interfere with the middle. I have a ton of empty blue space on the screen to the right and left.

Yeah I agree. One needs to think of it this way...

Sure, it's convenient to not look at any ads, but Menewsha needs to do something. Some of you complain about the premium membership on DA and how unfair it is. I'd have to disagree. DA is not even that bad if you aren't a premium member. I'm using DA as an example because it capitalizes on things (thus staying alive and strong).

I hate to say it, because I don't necessarily like this idea, but Menewsha is going to have to pull a complete 180 if it's going to survive (at this rate).

Vexatious~Venom 07-11-2010 07:16 PM

I wouldn't say sponsored by a 'better' site because that is only a matter of personal preference.

Better question, if Menewsha goes under, will we have to go back to Gaia?

sadrain 07-11-2010 07:17 PM

If Ads can help, we should be able to bear them.

Linnea 07-11-2010 07:17 PM

i don't think we should get carried away just yet... there is still time to save menewsha!

I've also gotten a C in English. I'm horrible with words. :/

Yes, when i first joined up it was Halloween and they had a user designed item contest. I think i got a placing in that actually.

I realise that having the users create the items and site graphics does create reliability problems, especially when things are not delivered on time or to standard etc. Im sure that processes could be worked out as far as that goes though.

I think it would be something to get people excited about the community that's for sure but someone else mentioned, I do think it was shot down due to making more work now that I think about it.

By the way, I like the idea about getting special little badges by your username for donating or even titles. I think it would be a cute idea.

Vexatious~Venom 07-11-2010 07:18 PM

If mene goes under no, donations will likely not be given back due to the fact no-one forced you to give to the site anyway, and if the site can't afford to run it can't afford to pay back members.

No, if mene closes down you don't have to go back to gaia, it is a matter of choice.

Starkeyy 07-11-2010 07:18 PM

sorry, man I am on 3 different sites at this point in time, and I can't afford to donate to all of them =/
Hell I dont even donate to gaia anymore.
When I donate, only the site I'm most active on gets my money (cuz in all honesty I think that's the farest way to go about it why pay for a site i rarely use?)
Once I get the art I've commissioned, I plan to leave this site =(

Izumi 07-11-2010 07:18 PM

The end of Menewsha is a sad thought indeed. :cry:

I'd be for a monthly membership option as long as it's affordable...I'd even quit paying the money towards my online game if it meant mene could survive. I only pay a peasely 7 bucks a month though every little bit helps.

I dunno I think the membership should get certain privilages like the DAC, perhaps be able to wear more items on their avvie at once and get a member button or something? Just little extras that would make us feel like we get a 'thank you' for helping. I'd still want people who couldn't contribute to be able to too, but you know you get what you pay for. :/

How about a private board for members too? I dunno. :/

Applekisses 07-11-2010 07:18 PM

I'm really said Menewsha might go down T.T this is insane...I've only been on here roughly 2 months. It's been an awesome place so far and I just can't see it go away. Wouldn't the smart thing to do, is advertising products or something. Idk. Just something that actually works. >.< I got nothing.

Hatake Ayumi 07-11-2010 07:18 PM

Lol, nobody is forcing people to go to certain sites.
xD;
If mene goes under, I'll probably whimper and undergo withdrawl... then try to contact friends like Demo and Hammy and Anna.

And Dev Art ain't that bad, Demo is right.

HOCRUD this is going fast *can't type this fast*

Uh... I guess you're right... they announced this now though, so I am very unlikely to donate now. I wonder how Creature World manages to stay alive and they are an avatar/pet based site. They have less members, but still I don't get it.

Yeah, I'm just kinda staring at the conversation as live update...err...updates

Izumi 07-11-2010 07:20 PM

Hata - if the site goes down, we'll have to swap IMs or something so we can keep in touch. :/ I'd miss a lot of my normal people I talk to, you know?

Nephila 07-11-2010 07:20 PM

Holy heck! I just made a similar announcement on Kinsaki last week.

About eight-six months ago I posted a comment somewhere on kinsaki where I said something to the effect "In the future, if these types of sites don't join together and form some kind of partnership they will fail and Gaia will be the only option left." I have no intention of being right on that statement.

Here are some things as a donator I would go for:

A Cash Shop

As long as the items in the cash shop aren't $50 each I would have no problems with Mene having one.

Ads

Desparate times call for desparate measures.

Premium Membership

I saw some people say they wouldn't like having ads on Mene, The premium membership accounts wouldn't have that. I also wouldn't mind the DAC being for premium accounts. I think it would be cool to have a little "I helped" button by my name for this sort of membership.

Common Passes

I say commons passes because I don't want the few old items out there being bought for 1000000000000000000 ect. gold. As a quester I think that those older items should be earned.

Here's the only thing I wouldn't go for when it comes to paying more:

Random luck based items

And that's the only thing. I HATE with a passion those types of items. They're frustrating and a gamblers gateway.

The Wandering Poet 07-11-2010 07:20 PM

I agree with cutting expenses... and... to be honest... maybe making half as many poses for an item... since we used to only have one pose yet the poses are getting very high in number... meaning more work -> more pay... if we cut out a lot of the pixeling you wouldn't have to pay as much?

:lol: Hata a lot of us would be suffering from withdrawls... and lose a lot of ways to communicate...

Whisper Invictus 07-11-2010 07:21 PM

For the record, I started Menewsha in March... and started contributing then too. >< im not quite 20 but I think that if you put a little effort out you might get a new group of contributors to the site. I only read the first post by Insomniac but this is just my opinion. Mene might survive with a new wave of devoted Menewshans!!! >__<!

sadrain 07-11-2010 07:21 PM

No, not the cash shop. D: -shivers-

Liztress 07-11-2010 07:21 PM

Been thinking... What about limited edition items similar to the gifts for donating $10? But they could be user chosen and sold monthly or bimonthly.

@ assassin - Kind of like a "I supported mene" badge? True... but there would need to be ways other than art ad coding... since personally I want to help the site... but I can't draw and I can't code...

Although it wouldnt have to say that exactly, just something that an artist would be able to recieve like an artistic tool or something?

I understand that not everyone is an artist, but i was simply looking at something that i feel is a collective interest of the site members. we like looking at the pretty site, we like having pretty items, and the art forums are very active and art is a large part of the community? Why not have the members serve the site as well as each other too?

I understand this would look like an 'elitist' type thing, but rather than just making it a standard object, have it bound to an account, possibly personalised some how too? That way, you cant just trade such rare items for rediculous amounts of money, it will be an item worthy of respect, and earned through hard work instead.
