Pop up asking for password (Scam attempting to get User's passwords)!

I went to view a thread and a pop up came up that said "A username and password are being requested by http://menewsha.t15.org. The site says: " .. PLEASE VERIFY YOUR ACCOUNT BY LOGGING IN BELOW!"

I figure it was a phishing attempt but was wondering if it was something on my end or with the site. I did a scan and didn't find anything so that's why I posted this thread. I'd hate to have someone fall for it if it's something site wide.

It is a scam and not just in one thread like I thought! It's so annoying that people feel the need to try to scam users.

Liztress 03-08-2012 09:32 AM

It's a hack. :( I reported two that showed up for me.

Mystic 03-08-2012 09:35 AM

Yeah, I figured it wasn't something on my end but wanted to make sure. I hope no one falls for it. :(

Liztress 03-08-2012 09:38 AM

Well, I did. xD But I changed my password like 5 seconds later. I'm blaming lack of sleep on not being too bright. But yeah, I'm hoping no one else gets duped by it. I had noticed one person was and I passed that along to Woody.

Mystic 03-08-2012 09:45 AM

I hear ya with the lack of sleep thing! I don't get why people feel the need to hack websites. I mean, really, what are they going to gain from hacking accounts that have no real value?

Liztress 03-08-2012 10:39 AM

What admin told you guys that? It's not true at all.

Hackers irk the hell out of me. -.-

Mystic 03-08-2012 10:44 AM

It's even more annoying when they post under accounts they scammed trying to convince other users that their scam is legit. -_-;

Liztress 03-08-2012 10:50 AM

I know! Hate to say it but a lot of us know better.

Akio Shentoshi 03-08-2012 11:21 AM

Its popping up on me everywere i go so i think i will just log off until it gets fixed

sweet_serender159 03-08-2012 11:48 AM

umm what the hell?
I didnt post this !!!!!!

Liztress 03-08-2012 11:56 AM

It's the hackers posting under your name.

To be safe, I suggest everyone change their passwords and don't put your info in that pop-up.

I believe this is happening to me ......

Liztress ;;
well they better get off my account before I beat them down :@
I changed my password and the such

Ferra 03-08-2012 12:35 PM

I can assure you this is not legitimate, so please don't enter your details and report any posts that seem to generate this pop-up.

For now, I've managed to block the code from popping up with my Ad-block in Firefox so you might want to do the same if you have a similar add-on. I've deleted all of the hacked posts that were reported, but there may be more. Please be vigilant!

sweet_serender159 03-08-2012 12:37 PM

how do I block pop ups on firefox ferra?

Ferra 03-08-2012 12:39 PM

Do you have Ad-Block Plus? That's the add-on I have installed. Just right click any image on the screen and hit "Block image" in the options menu. When it pops up to ask you what you want to block, you can paste the URL from the top of the page into the "custom" section and that will let you block it.

sweet_serender159 03-08-2012 12:44 PM

thanks so much for the help Ferra :)
Im downloading it as we spoeak

llonka 03-08-2012 04:44 PM

hummy: and Ashtyn Leigh: are complaining about it too. hope it gets resolved and nobody gets hacked! :P

CosmicFoxKitty 03-08-2012 04:47 PM

Yes, but I also question who would do such a thing... I thought everyone on mene was loving... D:
I changed my password but it is still worrisome ):

hummy 03-08-2012 04:47 PM

Ashlie entered some infomation, Ferra.
she should change her password, yeah?
i won't ping her here, since llonka already did.

jellysundae 03-08-2012 04:52 PM

Is this still going on? I can't find any thread about it other than the two in here, so I have no idea what's been done about anything.

Maria-Minamino 03-08-2012 04:53 PM

I never got any hacking attempts so hopefully it's done D:

llonka 03-08-2012 04:53 PM

it is, unfortunately. i haven't see the pop up though. just trying to help!

jellysundae 03-08-2012 04:54 PM

This isn't hacking, guys, it's phishing. Not the same thing at all.

Hacking is if someone forces their way into your computer, no-one's doing that here, people who should know better are giving away their information.

llonka 03-08-2012 04:57 PM

Oh sorry, i knew that.

so what can be done about it? i hate to see this happening on mene.

Woodlandnymph 03-08-2012 05:00 PM

:XD My bad calling it hacking last night when dealing with this.....I am computer illiterate. This PHISHING is a pain in the bum :P
