Well, I didn't see this around (although I'm in a bit of a rush so I didn't look that well) so I'd thought I'd ask about it.

See, I really like menewsha even though I've been here only a few weeks but I can't help but feel it's a little empty at times. Getting a small (mind you I said small!!) reward for referring people to menewsha would be a nice idea. I think it would be a nice because it would give a lot more people access to the site. More people means maybe more donations? Who knows!

Now, I know that with this idea there are of course the people who are going to go to the ends of the world to try and ruin it for everyone else. That's why I said a small reward. Maybe 25-30 gold? (it's slightly more then what you'd get for making a good post) The reason why I'm not asking for like 100 gold or something is because I know there would be people who would create fake accounts and just exploit the referral system. That wouldn't be very fair for the rest of us who earn our gold the right way.

So that's basically my idea. Let me know what you guys think about it! Feel free to post your own suggestions to make my suggestion better. (:

Well, The only problem I have with referrals is that maybe a newbie comes here, wants stuff, just posts his or her referral link in the middle of Gaia, then we get spammed by them.

Besides, with no rewards, it means that they only refer when they know the other person would really like Mene and improve the community.

Very true. I would hate to see this site turn into anything like Gaia. That's kinda why I left.

What if instead of every referral you get a reward. You'd get a reward every five or ten? (I don't know a thing about coding so this may be down right impossible) Plus maybe they could add like you have to be on menewsha (insert number) days before you could do the referral thing.

Either way I'd like a referral button. Something I could put into my signature on other sites I'm on or maybe my myspace.

True, awards do encourage people to refer people and more people equals more activity, but if you post your referral link in your signature, can you preform a "quality control" on all the people who click that link to make sure they won't spam this place up?

And if the rewards were every 5-10, I think it would be even more rampant publicizing and gaian invaders.

There was a time a few months ago when the people who referred the most people and referred the most active people got an award. But that was an Admin contest like thing and it would be too hard to just do such a rewarding thing by hand. Jelly and CK and others are busy enough as is.

Well honestly no I can't but the only place I could think that I would put it would be another site like this. The site has very nice people and I don't think any noobs. The reward isn't that big of a deal to me but for others who are always looking for gold I thought it would be a nice idea. I'd just like to see more people online.

I think referral gold really just encourages people to make multiple accounts for the gold or spam the link all over the place, like Hatake mentioned.

I'd like to see a few new faces around here as well, but I don't think referral gold really does anything but encourage abuse.

While I can't speak on her behalf, i do know jelly has cooked up some ideas for a referral system to be different and unique so someone can't just spam a link everywhere

He just haven't had the coder/time to do something yet, and its all still in the works, but one day in the future we will have a cool system set up for it ^^

We have done referrals for gold in the past, and they were disgustingly abused, we wouldn't go down that route again.

But as Tre says, we have ideas for a system that would be difficult to abuse, it will come along eventually :yes:

I found the referral link and I've already been putting it to good use!

It's sad that people have to ruin a good thing though. I figured that you guys probably had a reward before. It's good to know that you guys have some ideas though. (:

I liked the idea of the Referal thing with a prize as what has been done in the past. But, maybe hold off on that til after the summer splurg and kids are ready to go back into the houses. =)

I think that's a good idea. People who stay on sites like these during the school year show more credibility. I bet Menewsha will get more kids over the summer but most of them will leave as soon as September hits. Which sucks.

Only issue I have seen is when school starts up it slows down during the day but the night time is heavy. At least that is how it was in 03-05 with gaia >>; Which now.. that place is just a hell hole all year round.
