However, on menewsha, it is VERY HIGHLY likely that there will NEVER be free gold or starter items given to newbies.

Summary:

Motivates people to work for things rather than getting handouts.
Gives people the collective experience of having been naked before, so no "Class wars."
There are easy ways to earn gold like simply posting a long, relevant post or doing games.
All the items and gold you earn from the get-go are things YOU earned up. Not just given to you.

Besides that, last time i was on gaia they handed people starting outfits etc and the beggers still begged for gold or items. I doubt starting with a clothing set would affect it much. People that want a free ride are still going to ask for a free ride. rather they are in their undies or a starting outfit.

I just started and I personally think that it's o.k.
It's not that hard earning the gold. Just sit and play snake for a while.
Really it isn't all that hard. ^_^

You'll get use to Menewsha just give it a chance. I am still on gaia but I on here more now, The people are so nice I love it....none of my friends come on gaia as much so its nice to have some nice people to chat with.

plus we dont need to star with clothes it is fun being able to starts like scratch. knowing the what you are now wearing is the fruit of posting and arcade though it might be a bit better if there were more games... any way still i think it is better like this than like in gaia.

I just started on here yesterday, and within a few hours I had earned a basic 'starter' outfit, mostly from chatting with a helpful Menewsha veteran in my intro thread. I like the whole 'you earn what you work for' ethic, because while it's slightly reminiscent of RL that many of us try to escape; but it's also a lot more fun to say, "I earned the gold to buy this all by myself!"

I dunno, I agree with the motivation thing....gaias aray of starter items is beyond me....they peasant clothing wasn't so bad...

We already have plenty of threads on the first page about this issue, so no need to bring back threads from 4 months ago ;)
