Adopt a Newbie thread

I posted this up earlier and you people deleted it so I'm posting this again. This time without name dropping since it seems to upset the delicate internal balance of the moderators.

I've been spoken to by a meddlesome user that I have since blocked, who even though I do not see anything next to her name saying that she is a moderator or admin or anyone in authority she insists on trolling through newbie threads in the fresh meet section and telling newbies who are upset or uncomfortable with our avatars running around nude all over the site that it's just because they are new or are from gaia and are spoiled and after a few weeks on the site they'll get used to the way things are done here.

Well that is one of the many reasons I'm not sticking around. This site is not user friendly and it's filled with people who think they are better than people coming over from other sites where things are run differently.

Here is my suggestion. Other than being imperious jerks to newbies, why don't you start an adopt a newbie thread where you help them learn the rules of posting, help get them started on building an outfit, at least suggestions of the best way to go about it, and etc.

If you see newbies who are complaining about the differences between this site and other sites direct them to the adopt a newbie thread and let them know that there are people who can offer them help getting comfortable and familiar with the site, if they are interested. Then if they still want to complain, let them do it and leave them alone.

Badgering them and patronizing them only makes it worse. reactively harrasing people who double post because they don't realize that quoting two different people in the same thread without letting someone else talk again is apparently a severe violation of the rules as well as starting a new topic in one of your old threads where the original conversation has died is apparently also considered double posting.... and if they don't realize that until they get rude little pm's from the mods and half a dozen older members jump all over their back.... Well doing things that way only makes a newbie feel worse. It's not proactive and there for not helpful.

It just makes people like me want to leave and let everyone on Gaia know that people over at Menewsha think we're all spoiled and that even though Gaia was very much like how Menewsha is now, everyone over here somehow thinks they are better than us. When in fact, your site is more primitive than ours. ours has grown beyond this.

So yeah. Start an adopt a newbie thread and help guide newbies rather than harass and belittle and patronize them. Cause as it stands right now, This site gets 1 star out of 5 when it comes to hospitality. See ya.

Your thread was simply moved to the trash, not deleted (as you still have the gold from that post), most likely for name-dropping on said person who has gotten your panties knotted in the first place. The mods were just doing their jobs so don't get annoyed at them, especially when you could easily contact one and ask why, they would be happy to explain and your issue could possibly of been dealt with by now. We are pretty easy going on new people and are more than happy to help and explain things if trouble appears.

It is always much easier to ignore someone if you don't like who they are or what they say, or if they are breaking rules you can report them and mods will deal with it. Also this site is very user friendly once you get use to it, it takes everyone a little bit of time - I am members of much stricter sites where they don't let you post unless you have 6 words min. in the post ;) So think about that lol

Said user probably didn't mean any harm by what they were saying, and reading back where this all happened, she wasn't even rude but just politely explaining things to yourself and another new person. She only got defensive when you started questioning and picking into her posts. So maybe you should think about your own attitude towards other people too before calling them out.

We use to have a user-run 'Adopt a newbie' thread, but the user who ran it eventually started to bitch at new users and wasn't very pleasant by the end of it. For now we do have some helpful guides that are stickied on top of the fresh meat forum;
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...ing-guide.html
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...ter-guide.html
http://www.menewsha.com/forum/commun...e-posting.html
Whether you read them or not is another thing ;P But they are very useful for anyone just starting out. There are also charities that help newbies out too so long as they are polite and chat rather than beg for clothing and run off.

No one can guarantee user or other staff members will not reply to these people who are complaining or commenting, we like to inform people as to why such and such is like this and that, just try to chill out a bit maybe? No one is trying to make people feel stupid or uncomfortable (unless they call you an idiot or stupid :P but thats flaming so no one does it).

I do think you are blowing this all out of proportion after looking back through your post history and in fresh meat threads. People will always point out if someone is double posting, or spamming, and i've yet to see someone do it in a nasty way.
Its not like you've gotten in serious trouble and you usually receive a quick reminder from a mod just so you know, because most people are too lazy to read the rules, so these little reminders make they check and stop it from happening in the future. I read the reminder the mod gave you - it was nice and to the point, nothing rude or nasty in it.

Judging a site based off one person postings and a mod's friendly reminder is a little childish, but all the best in whatever you decide to do :)
