I wasn't going to respond to this issue, but this made me deside to say a little something.

From what I have seen on other websites (will remain unnamed) a market place makes it possible to artificially create inflation....I have seen it done many times over. Its more then a little more your going to end up paying in the end.

The "artificial inflation" part is directly related to how stupid the userbase is, so one can imagine that how much you pay would be different on each site. :)

Indeed, and this is why we would have safe-guards in place to make people aware that an item's price is way above average market value and so on.
It's all very well to say it's someone's own stupid fault if they are over-charged for an item, or if they drastically under-price something themselves but that wouldn't be a particularly user-friendly attitude for us to take, now would it?

@kinmo- lol you do have a point.

@Infinity- I also like the safe guards Jelly has said they intend to put in, it makes it harder for people. I dont see why they they shouldn't be in place. Granted yes people make mistakes and learn from them but whats the point in not having this happen in the first place. People who sell over the store price are being cruel and unkind. Its not really a bad thing to limit as much as possible the ways to scam people out of there gold.

lol, so much for not responding xP

If someone underpriced something it would be "Its mine! Should have made sure!"

I do not believe a marketplace would be a good idea. Menewsha is a growing community and will need a system somewhat like gaia's marketplace but we are trying not to be like gaia. Half of menewsha members were people that left gaia because of what gaia has done. I believe the staff are trying to create their own ways of doing things and I agree 100 percent on it. But at the moment, I do not believe that a marketplace is a good idea.

I'm curious at this opinion, because I think you're the only person I've seen who believed that a marketplace would be a bad idea. In regards to the things other people have been discussing (item inflations) I can understand, but apart from that, I don't think that the marketplace is one of the things that makes Gaia annoying to people who leave there and come here. I also don't think marketplaces are specific to Gaia, and while originality is great at Menewsha and a great thing to strive for, there's no reason they can't be original with the marketplace as well.

Controlling inflation would be an excellent idea, but what about deflation? (Sounds sort of silly ><) Using Gaia as an example since it's the only avatar site I've really been on much apart from this one, some of their items in the shops are more expensive than the usual market place price. I don't know if deflation could be considered a problem or not, I'm trying to think of negative aspects (other than people could get items really cheap and maybe that would cause gold inflation? I guess?) to that.

One thing that I think Menewsha would have to stay strong on is like jellysundae said, the user-friendly attitude about everything. One of the things that is so different about Menewsha from other sites is that there's genuinely a feeling of caring about other members on the site and wanting to help them. I think this is the only part that would be unattractive with the marketplace, if it somehow lost site of that, and as long as everyone is focused on trying to keep it completely user-friendly, I really don't see much of a problem with the idea. It would make searching for items, if nothing else, a lot easier.

Hmmm, I'm trying to think how to word this to make sure I'm not misunderstood. The current exchange system is most definitely NOT user friendly when you consider how much work has to be done just to buy the item you want. What you call user friendly, I consider protecting people from themselves, and I never like it when that type of thing is done. Like in real life, the more you try to protect people from themselves, the more rules and regulations you put in place, until finally, people have no rights at all. There's a point where you begin to question if this is being done to help the user or make it easier for the staff?

If you're saying what I think you are, you're exactly right. People are only going to complain when it's not in their favor basically.

Seen it happen time and time again on gaia. =/ So meh.
