You can! :) You must PM an Assistant Administrator (CK and jellysundae are two on the top of my head). However, it costs 1,000 gold to change your name.

Really? Why does it cost 1000 gold just to change your username?
Like you have to ask and then how does the pay thing work. I am not really considering it but, I find learning new things about menewsha just so fascinating.

Because the admins have to go through the trouble of changing the name for you.
It's also to discourage people from changing their usernames every 5 seconds. XP

It's sortof like how Gaia gives you two free name changes, and then starts charging 10k*x
x being how many name changes after the first 2 free ones you've had.
Though, on gaia you change your name directly, but it's still the same idea.

I think it's supposed to cause stress on the servers, or something as well. But, I don't know if that's as much of a concern on a site that uses userID numbers to identify users.

I'm not sure who you send the gold to when you get your name changed though on menewsha. Perhaps it's the admin who does it for you (the admin you contacted to have your name changed)? Or one of the "Staff Envoys" (site mules) like Bootylicious.

Hopefully I will know soon enough, I'm thinking of having my username changed. :D

To change spelling, removing spaces, Xs at the end of a name (XxnamexX for example), and typos, they are free (though don't do it too much or they might get annoyed).

Click link in Pweep's post. Pretty sure you pay by donating the gold to the admin's account. Of course, you can always pm them to change your name and in that pm ask where to donate the gold.

No, the AAs delete the gold from your account directly. It isn't 'donated' anywhere.

As for the "why" of why they cost money to change, there are a lot of reasons for it.

One of the reasons is user reputation. By making users pay to change their names - and increasing the cost of it each time - it makes people think very hard about what they want and why they want it. And it makes it a little more difficult for those people who are trying to hide a previous bad reputation behind a new name.

Possibly. People do that from time to time and the AA just deletes the gold from their own account when it happens.
