Just wondering, would it be possible to have trade notifications (similar to pings and stuff) as well as a direct trade button to either profiles, or in posts (next to the PM button)?

There used to be trade notifications, but not sure what happened to them. Probably the same issues that affect folks not getting the allonline ping.

I remember someone mentioning having trade buttons and Jelly explained why we couldn't, but I can't seem to find that thread. In any case, I'll try to relay what was there and hopefully it's not all wrong.
The general gist, as I understood it (which again, I could have misunderstood), was that having direct links to start trades with people would be like having the trades open already. It would be more taxing on the system because it would be more to load. I don't remember how long ago this was, but seeing as our situation has little improved, I wouldn't be surprised if this was still the issue today.

I did suggest a trade button, yes, and Inso vetoed it, because it would be too much of a resource hog. Particularly now that threads display more posts per page. That would mean background loading of the inventory of every person on any page that was viewed. So you can see why Inso won't do it

Can the trade notifications be fixed?

Once mene has a sort of income it is likely possible those will be fixed. As for now I think Inso has to do all of that coding himself and the poor guy already has a job too
