If I comission someone to draw me something, then turn around, modify the said picture into something else, is that well against the rules? o.o

Like I ask you to draw me a cat. I paid in goldies for you to draw me the cat.
Then I make the cat into say a nice profile layout, and banners (add text, special effect etc etc) and sell said layout/banners. Or like a logo?

Is that still considered be like art theft, even though I paided for the picture? And in theory it should be mines to cut/modify with? And sell it for profit?

We have a sad lack of nice weapons around here. :stare: I want my halberds, scythes, zweihanders and ringblades. Guns should be multi for either hand. We need dirks and daggers and the Egyptian dagger-like weapon that they use in the Mummy movies (has no idea what the name is). *screams* AND WHIPS!! WHIPS, GODDAMMIT!!! They should make multiple bases different poses and have a separate skin colour function with additional colours like vampiric pale, goblin green and night-elf blue!! We should have double-handed weapons as well as single-handed ones! Maces! Chains!! Scimitars! Bugnuks/claws! Lassos! Rifles! Whatever you call those weapons that are curved blades attached to your wrist/forearm! Giant hammers!! But more than anything else, WHIPS, dammit!!!

It would be best to ASK for permission first. Always ask. No matter even if it's a commission piece, modification like adding stuff, altering the art are not recommended unless permission is given. Though resizing and cropping the art is fine as far as I know, unless the artist specifically states that you must not. I have seen people do what you mentioned, admittedly, although I have no idea if they asked the original artist whether they could. Personally, I wouldn't mind, so long as you ask me first.

As for making profits, even if you paid for the picture, the artist still has their rights over the picture. Because the artists are the ones who drew it. And reselling the art you commissioned for them, reproducing it for profit is as bad as art theft, unless you are giving the commissioned artist a part of the profit you make from sales, if you get what I mean.

I actually share your sentiments about the weapons. Although the skin base, you should be happy with what we have. Previously, we only had three colours. Pale, medium and dark. Feel glad for the current choice of eight, seriously.
