It isn't as if the library is going to buy one copy of an ebook and lend it out to everyone at the same time or anything. People still have to wait for the book to be "returned" even though it isn't a physical book. The durability of ebooks is one of their greatest sources of appeal and HC is taking that away because it hurts their profit margins. It isn't like they won't still be making money with ebooks that never expire, just not as much as they will if they can get people to buy books that vanish on a yearly basis and have to be repurchased. Libraries are so often underfunded in the first place, all HC is doing is destroying the only source some people have of literature. I hope that even if HC sticks with their self-destructive policy, other companies will see the negative reaction it is getting from the public and avoid taking similar steps with their ebooks.

I see. Hm... Also my library system, ebooks expire anyways. Then you have to "check them out" again. :S So it doesn't make sense for them to "self-destruct" >_<; If some libraries already do that for you. :-/

moon children 05-29-2011 08:25 PM

i am bored so i am going to say hello crow *giggles because i dont know why oh yes i do because im insane* and everyone here and ask whats everyone up to

Dottie Mae Evans 05-30-2011 01:02 AM

Hello Moon Children, I am doing fine, just got home and going to hang out on Menewsha. :)

moon children 05-30-2011 03:30 AM

oh thats nice im doing the same ((even if i didnt just get home))

Saravi Boo 05-31-2011 06:23 PM

Lizzy, I'm not talking about the books expiring for the people checking them out. That is normal and fine. I'm talking about HC making books that disappear from the library. They want to sell libraries ebooks that can only be checked out 26 times before the library has to buy them again. It's a total rip off. With a two week check out, that puts a popular book lasting just one year. Can you imagine how much it would cost a library to replace all their most popular books every year?

----------

Oh, and hello Moony. ^_^ Can I call you that?

Naoto-chan22 05-31-2011 06:25 PM

BOO!!:glomp:

Saravi Boo 05-31-2011 07:06 PM

Nao!! ^_^ *huggles* Long time no see! How are you?

I understand that, I was just saying what some libraries already do. :S But to be checked out only 26 times is ridiculous though. Some library systems (or most) can't afford it. If that happened, my library system wouldn't be able to get e-books from that publisher then. :cry: I understand what you mean though. ^_^;

@ Crow- I have some goodies I am sending to your birdies. :D!

Naoto-chan22 05-31-2011 07:27 PM

mm good Boo just doing some last min cleaning while waiting for Mitsie's plane to land :D

Saravi Boo 06-01-2011 07:27 AM

Lizzy, okay. I just thought you had misunderstood what I was talking about. Also, it isn't theoretical. HarperCollins has already tried to implement this diabolical marketing scheme, I believe.

Mitsi is visiting Nao? ^_^

The_Crow 06-01-2011 08:49 AM

Where does Naoto-hime live? I ask because though I have been San Francisco based since 1999, I'm going to be visiting Georgia and Florida, where I grew up, in a few weeks. I'll be sure to catch up on shiny delivery before I leave, don't worry.

So are any thread regulars in the Southeast?

I am! :D! I'm from Florida. The weather is great, but I'm planning on moving to another southern state though. Right now not only I need better, but my relative needs better as well. :S At least we'll be in a state that is semi-stable.

The_Crow 06-01-2011 03:44 PM

I'm going to be flying into Macon, GA (where I was born), then driving down to Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island where my biological Mother lives. My biological father, his mother, and his sister (all of my blood paternal family) is in Alabama currently. My mother's brother and his son, my cousin (whom is old enough to take out drinking now x_X) both live in Macon, GA. He moved to keep my mother company after my parents initial divorce. My mother then re-married after I went to live with my father and stepmother (who had been transplanted to California, near where I am) at the time. I'll be flying OUT of Jacksonville.

This time I am going as prepared as possible. I'm finally old enough to rent my own damn car  and I'm bringing my laptop with prepaid satellite internet so I can stay connected to information, and most importantly reference google maps for driving directions. Not having lived somewhere for half of my life... I might be a bit rusty on what is where.

moon children: What else do you enjoy doing to kill boredom? It's like the whack-a-mole... it's hard to keep it from popping back up at you from time to time...

Dottie Mae Evans 06-01-2011 04:02 PM

I'm not near Jacksonville unfortunately. :( I am in South Florida. I hope you arrive safely to Georgia. Let us know when you get there. ^_^;

Also I sent some goodies to your birdies, did they get them?

Phobos and Deimos 06-01-2011 04:25 PM

Pfft. The system must think that birds aren't important enough to receive Trade Notifications. Thank you very much for the shinies!

I live in Columbus,Ohio Crow-Papa :)

Saravi Boo 06-01-2011 06:18 PM

I live in North Carolina, Crow. ^_^ So yes, but not anywhere near where you'll be unfortunately.

Oh! Hi Mitsi!! Long time no see!! :squee: I hope things are going well for you. ^_^

*huggles Mitsi and Nao* So is the wedding imminent yet? I can't remember when you two said it was going to be.

Naoto-chan22 06-01-2011 06:29 PM

Nope October 13th,2012:sweat:

The_Crow 06-01-2011 09:23 PM

Lizzy-dear- You know there's a chance you will win back some of your items, the more you give to me, right? Perhaps anything you have multiples of you can spot-gift to new users or anyone deserving.

Naoto-hime and Mitsu-kun- Greetings to the both of you. The person who was my partner from England, well, let's just say I wasn't ready to settle down and they were ready to get married. But they did move to California to finish their Bachelor's degree near me. You also realise that this means that Mitsunari will become a Prince of the Creeper Kingdom? You'll still have to acknowledge that Hatake-sama is High Prince, but yes, you will get to be royalty! I better be getting an invitation to this wedding. >.> You really don't want me actually crashing it, so yes, an invite would be nice.

Boo- Too bad I won't be able to terroize you in person ;)

Dottie Mae Evans 06-01-2011 10:21 PM

I know, Crow. ^_^; If I win it back, I'll just send it to a random user that needs it for a quest.

Anyways, to bad you won't be in South Florida. :( That's ok though, maybe we'll meet one day. ;)

Saravi Boo 06-02-2011 01:34 AM

Nao and Mitsi should have a Mene wedding too so all of us who don't live nearby can virtually attend. ^_^

O_o' Yeah, Crow....um...too bad.... *whew* lol. Just kidding, it really is too bad. You seem like someone who would be fun to meet. ^_^

Riley_Dragonseeker 06-02-2011 01:53 AM

NAO NAO. Congrats. Sorry that I haven't been on in awhile. I'm so happy for you.

Crow Sama. Have a safe trip.

And hello everyone else how are you?
