I know the feeling Strelly, also, I have a sneaking suspicion who you're on about, unless there are two very annoying newbies xD

Estrella 10-17-2010 10:11 PM

I wish I didn't have to take it. D:
My brain just doesn't work this way!

Anything to do with maths I fail at. I'm hoping to scrape a C this year D;

Each individual has their own unique talents and gifts. It is a shame that through schooling everybody is pushed to excel at EVERYTHING (except the Arts, because we had to cut the funding for that to make more time for TESTS). Even when you hit college your lower division units are typically GE and it isn't until your third and fourth year and taking upper division units do you finally get to say 'sayonara' once and for all to the things that dobn't jive with you. It is sad that people are hammered in the head with things that just don't click with them until that point.

Oh, and hi Broseph:

*ninjas up to Crow and huggles*

Hai! <3

I failed at art last year, what I can draw isn't what is wanted by the SQA :gonk:

Estrella 10-17-2010 11:59 PM

Crow - I think you'd really like this TED talk

The_Crow 10-18-2010 12:24 AM

Vexatious-dear- How can one fail art? I mean unless you completely disregarded the assignment of what the teacher expected, as long as you do your best you should be okay. I cannot recall for certain, but I did have to take the intro to drawing course in college and I am one of those people who 'can't draw'. I do believe I came out of it with an A- and the ability to draw better than I used to though it is not my gift. The last time I had "art" was for one trimester during 7th grade. We built a parthenon out of drinking straws, a shoebox, and lots of white paint.

Estrella-sama- I have strong opinions because I AM a TEACHER. Education was my major in university and I just had to decline an afternoon of teaching third grade tomorrow because iI'm still waiting for my physical therapist appointment.

I PHUCKING HATE PHYSICS.
ABSOLUTELY, 100% ABHOR IT!!

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 01:02 AM

@Crow: Well, the things that I draw and draw well are things that are pretty surreal, such as cartoons or stylized art. What I had to do to pass standard grade art (if you want a full explanation of the way the Scottish grading system works feel free to ask, though it's pretty complex I must say) was to design a mask and do a still life.

My mask I must say was rather fetching, I have a picture of one of my friends wearing it actually, here it is if you're interested. So that aspect of my course was taken care of.

However, still life posed a real problem for me. I can't draw realistic things to save my life. My teacher thought he'd be kind and give me the loser still life to do because it was simpler. So I got bundled with a fruit bowl. For my prelim (basically a mock exam) I pretty much failed. So for my exam I decided to try something a little different. I still drew the fruit bowl, but I embellished it a little, so it was more cartoony. I personified the fruit, and I have to say, it was a seriously awesome picture. Coloured and shaded perfectly, and looked pretty cute.

Although since technically I didn't draw exactly what I saw, I got marked down. I got a 4, which is the lowest form of a general grade. So pretty mediocre for five hours work. They could only mark me on the skill I used and not the actual picture.

Hence, I failed at art.

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 01:06 AM

*huggles Strelly*

Anything I can help with? :(

*pulls Lizzie into the huggle*

Liztress 10-18-2010 01:06 AM

*is huggled*

Estrella 10-18-2010 01:14 AM

Unless you can suddenly make physics even remotely fathomable to me, then no.
I absolutely hate this class.

My friend tried to help me but there's three serious problems
1) I don't know how start the problems.
2) I CAN'T READ HIS EFFING HANDWRITING!
3) He learned a totally different fing method than I did so I don't know wtf he's doing.

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 01:15 AM

I'm afraid that I can't help you there, Strelly :(

Estrella 10-18-2010 01:18 AM

*screams and throws her calculator at the wall*

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 01:39 AM

I hope Crow looks back pages. I typed that rather convoluted explanation of my failure of art specially xD

Izumi 10-18-2010 01:39 AM

Hey Strelly, lemme see if I can coax my husband to come and help. He loves physics....

Estrella 10-18-2010 01:41 AM

Izumi - x___X; It might not be helpful because it appears that the way this professor is teaching us is different.
It makes this class so much EFFING HARDER!

Izumi 10-18-2010 01:41 AM

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. >_>;; I wish I could help, but I've never taken a class on physics.

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 01:42 AM

I fail at physics. Mind you, the teacher I got was a bit of a plum. And he could never get my name right. He'd keep calling me Jodie and then took offense when I wore a name badge

Izumi 10-18-2010 01:44 AM

LOL.

No one ever really confuses my name, unless I'm working on the phone and trying to say "My name is Tara" sometimes comes out sounding more like "My name is Sarah.". Now I try using the Tah-Rah pronunciation on the phone in hoping it is easier for people to get it. :XP

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 01:46 AM

Well my name is Tania, so it's nothing like Jodie :gonk:

Izumi 10-18-2010 01:46 AM

Where the hell did he get Jodie?? :gonk:

Vexatious~Venom 10-18-2010 02:14 AM

I have no idea, but it was annoying beyond belief. Thank God I don't have him as a teacher anymore. I happen to love all my teachers this year, so I'm quite happy about that. The past two years I've had an awful bunch, many of whom hated me with a passion D;
