hiya, Carnnie♥!
awesome new avi!
Sorry! I missed this!! Thank you very much though! :P I was going for ageha yoshina from the manga Psyren. Apparently it is also a good likeness to anti-sora from kingdom hearts! :P
Carn - I'm only at 24, just kidding! x3 But 20 of those weren't even on my original list. Which makes me feel like I've not gotten anywhere. Haha.
Woody - Hopefully, if I'm smart, after I finish this program I'll be SUPERRICH.
So I finished the book. And didn't like any of it. My first complaint is really minor (and could have been because I was reading the Kindle version?) but the author didn't use any quotation marks for dialogue. I think I got use to that towards the end but at first it was hard for me. When I read a book, I tend to have different inflections in my head that would signify speech, yelling or thinking. So, that really bugged me.
My other complaint is the like of depth you get to know any of the characters. Seriously, I had no emotional connection to any of them and it really pissed me off. I'll put the rest in a spoiler bar because I'm going to...well, spoil some of the "plot."
SPOILERX
Elie, the main character, is supposed to be this extremely charismatic and a HUGE flirt. I didn't get that at all. The only thing that showed her as very desireable was that people "had a passion for her." A passion marked by nothing other than the words "passion." There was no longing or desire displayed by male characters in any form. It was really just very bland.
The anger also didn't make it past the pages to me. One of the characters was constantly TRASHING HIS ROOM and normally, in a well written book, stuff like that is really easy to FEEL. To understand the anger of the person. In this one, again, it was very freaking bland.
Also, I had a really, really hard time suspending disbelief. Oh yeah? Going to sneak two prisoners out of Auschwitz with one SS officer (who isn't even faithful) and a random philosopher that's being watched by the Gestapo? YEAH? FREAKING REALLY? And apparently Elie's been single-handily sneaking people out of the country the entire war. I like to believe there were some compassionate people during that time but apparently Elie was able to find nothing BUT those sort of people and though there were moments where she was suppose to be in serious danger, I didn't feel it.
An SS officer sees you walking around at night by yourself? And you sneak a girl and small out of a SUSPECTED SAFE HOUSE, where apparently the SS have been checking EVERYDAY TO FIND SOMEONE, without ever running into one fucking officer? Ugh!! *ahem*.
Another problem I had was the whole premise behind the book. While I thought the whole point of the book was this: there is society of people who answer the letters of people in concentration camps. I thought what that meant was the society was people answering letters from family who managed to avoid concentration camps. EERRRNNNNTTTT! Wrong! No, they are literally writing letters for the dead.
There was some, but not very much, explanation as to why this was what they were doing and I still, even after reading it, don't understand the point.
I hate authors that don't use quotation marks >.<; I've run across a few books like that lol. :XD lol this is a funny review! :P I imagine I probably won't read this book now that I just read all that lol. But some part of me is curious to read it just to experience it all
Oh, ok, good. I'm not that gianty. I guess I always picture you as shorter. ;)
I was taller than you at a wedding recently. I had my BIG heels on. 4 or 5 inch heels. I was the second tallest person at that wedding when I had them on. O.o
