Background’s background
Story takes place in a country – a Republic where the previous nobility still has most of the power and influence, together with the rich civilians.
The previous, and last King’s reign was thrown over and the King was murdered. The farmers and the people from the towns were furious – for years they had suffered from poverty and famine, suffering from their oppressor’s every whim.
The richer citizens supported the kingdom, those in poverty screamed for a republic.
The truly rich citizens supported the kingdom, with exception of the guilds of Rutyan <Assassins>, Ishnar <Prostitutes>, Atmir and Yohin, or at least in the cities on the east coast and in the provinces Nizhar, Durmon and Rataya. In the capital city Inyala <West-coast, province of Ghirin> the cry for the King’s death got louder and louder.
Surprisingly enough, most of the nobility supported the republic, all with their own motives.
The Republic Itnis <named after the Goddess Nisa, means as much as ‘For Nisa’ or ‘In Nisa’s Name’> rose from the ashes of the burning Kingdom Atnishan <’Blessed by Nisa’>.
The wife of the king died before the revolution started. His eldest son died in the civil war that followed the revolution. His second son supported the revolution and republic, but got killed for his ancestry despite of this. The third son fled the former Kingdom together with the King’s only daughter. Both were sought after for a long time, but never found.

The guild of Rutyan is a guild of assassins. If you are adopted into the guild, this happens at a very young age. Before the eleventh birthday, often even before the eighth. If you are born into the guild you will be part of it forever.
You grow up without any memory of your parents or family. Every memory of your time before the adoption will be supressed by the use of magic. The guild is your only family. Only if you officially become part of the guild, you regain those memories, during or after the first Ritual of Rutyan. It is during that ritual that you become a full member of the Guild… or die.

Story’s background
The Republic Itnis is a divided country. Where some individuals have wealth to the extreme, most of those that do not belong to the upper class of the elite live in extreme poverty. More and more people are calling for a new revolution.
Itnis still lies in ruins after the civil war that immediately followed the revolution that ended the Kingdom Atnisha and caused the birth of the Itnishan Republic.
Forty-nine years after the fall of the Kingdom, twenty-two years after the end of the civil war, chaos still rules the Republic. A revolution has so far been prevented by those with military power, but it is uncertain for how long they can manage this oppression. It is grim. The farmers suffer even more than under the King’s reign. From the common folk, the towners and citizens, farmers and travelling merchants, some people stand up, willing to speak what all of them think. <PoV: Two ‘common heroes’, one with his own motives>
Some of them truly are heroes, others do it with their own reasons. The people unite even beyond the borders of their own towns for the first time in centuries.

The Republic’s leaders send legions of soldiers to the places where the frustration reigns and where the call for equality, for freedom and for religion gets louder and louder. In the mean time, even those living in the cities start to protest. Taxes get higher, rules and laws with little to no purpose are set up. Murder gets as common – especially in the bigger cities – as rain. Violence reigns. People feel – and are – unsafe. <PoV: Poor family from Arah in the province of Durmon>

This is a relatively small part from the background information I have lying around, and then even only the background information that directly ties into the story. Considering how I still have eight more pages on the Story's direct background lying around alone... Yes, a relatively small excerpt. xD
