No more than ten nations/territories celebrate it on September 1st. Everyone else celebrates it today, or at least that's what Wikipedia tells me

LaVida 05-01-2010 11:25 PM

yea :P lol, Canada's one of them XD and it's not that big of a deal :P we get so many holidays from other cultures in the spring that it was better to squeeze it into September XD

And im back again all. Had a VERY busy weekend. Friends farewell dinner on thursday night, friday morning i packed for camping that day and then headed off about lunch time. Saturday night i left the camp ground, got home, unpacked, showered and then went to work pretty much. Finished work, got a feed, dropped a mate home and crawled into bed next to one of my exs at about 3am or so... sunday was up at 9am and off again for a tree climbing obstacle course activity with some workmates. Home about 5pm and spent the night with the ex who was still here, then she went home today some time while i was at work. Things are... interesting regarding the whole ex situation. No feelings involved, just physical stuff, but its something i never thought i would have done.

Took a couple of photos from camping, so ill post them up later tonight all going well!

@ LaVida - I stack crates in back of a store for my job. The other way I make money is I sell some of my art that I draw. I am an artist, and also mangaka in the making. I hope to be successful with making manga someday, and perhaps even make some anime :)

LaVida 05-03-2010 08:04 PM

Ususke>> oooh! when you become a successful mangaka, come and visit Canada during AN :3 go as a guest speaker or something XD

I'm expecting my parents to pay for BOTH university AND college. oh, and also dorms, although that would be more of a bonus. If they don't pay for dorms or college, I'd have to get a job/part-time job anyways >.> *sighs* I just reminded myself that I have around 12 more years of school ahead of me T_T

Kah Hilzin-Ec 05-03-2010 08:50 PM

Both University and College? I only know of "Universidad", so I don't know what's the difference between them :|

LaVida 05-03-2010 08:56 PM

over here, education for careers are split into 3's...kinda... anyways - one of the strands is university where everything is Academic with almost only studying from books (ex. doctors, lawyers), then there's college for trade arts (ex. bartender, cook, waitress) that gives education in both texts and hands-on stuff, and then there's apprenticeship where you just skip the text part which could be done to almost all the college courses. College gives you diplomas, while you go to universities for bachlorettes and degrees or something like that :P

McNugget 05-03-2010 10:36 PM

@ LaVida, I'll see what happens. Maybe someday I will.. But, what is AN?

Drop Bear 05-03-2010 11:37 PM

Over here, we have a similar set up. We go to yr 10 (school cert.) or yr 12 (higher school cert) and from either you can start working pretty much. For the 'booksmart' occupations like business, lawyers, medicine and science, then theres university. From these institutions you can get Diplomas, Degrees, Bachelors, Masters etc.

For your trades and 'practical' occupations as i call them, things like electricians, mechanics, plumbers, fitters, etc, then they have to be doing an apprenticeship which gives them hands on experience, and they must be studying at TAFE (cant remember what that stands for) where they get the theory knowledge before doing the practical stuff in the workplace. The employer is required to pay for their TAFE fees here because they are expected to go through their apprenticeship and finish as a tradesman.

That said, its not just trades that can be done at TAFE, they also have things like creative design stuff, IT, plus 'short courses' for some stuff too. At TAFE though, you can only go as far as a Diploma i think, to go further, you have to go to university.

And that is our tertiary education system setup as i see it! ^_^

McNugget 05-04-2010 02:03 AM

Assassin, when are you going to post up some pictures? want to see! Got one of the bull?

Kah Hilzin-Ec 05-04-2010 02:24 AM

OK, ill see what i can do about photos. I said id put some of the lightning stuff i have up here, and ill upload some of the camping weekend too. Doing it tonight. Fell asleep last night VERY early, so didnt end up doing it then.

EDIT PART 1:
As promised, the lightning photos. These were taken from the front window of the place i was previously living in. It had a very nice view of the city and i saw storms roll across it a few times. Amazing to watch! This time i decided to capture some of it. All up i took about 400 or so photos, though ive only made 5 of them available online. Im thinking of making a .gif of the lightning strikes etc possibly, but will do that at another date. Too much to do tonight already!

McNugget 05-05-2010 02:11 AM

@ LaVida - Oh.. o.k. I'll go look up a bit on that, and if I like it, I'll think about it. :)

@ Assassin - Wow. Those are some pretty good pictures lightning. Cool.

Drop Bear 05-05-2010 07:40 AM

Thanks guys! Theres a few others that go with them that arent as impressive. The really dark one i think i got the timing PERFECTLY on it, before the flash of light lit up the sky and as it was arcing to the ground. Thats my favourite of them all!

LaVida, i dont know for sure whether lightning has different colours, or whether it appears to at times, based on the type of things in the air between where we are witnessing the lightning and where the lightning is. Id presume it would be a similar thing to why the moon looks blood red some nights, which is usually because of smoke and pollution in the atmosphere giving it a red/orange type tinge.
