That and I have the gold one still, and the fact that I didn't have to go nuts trying to get a clover pin, as opposed to what I had to go through to get all the v-day stuff. Anyway, Bartuc is the reason I came back. We are good exchanging buddies on Gaia from way back, and I just went back to Gaia for a visit. He saw me online and got me on MSN and we were talking about avatar forums. He said he was a mod of one! I was like "Really? Which one?" Come to find he's modding on Menewsha. hahaha Small avatar world. ^^ So I came back after he's like "Omaghad your items are awesome" and I'm like "huh really?" Apparently the items had come up in price in 2 years. Which I should have predicted but I had put Mene on the very back of my mind for the past couple years. All done now, guy wanted me to lend him my Halo and other items to make an avy real quick. :3 |

lol It was fine, I had full control of a completely new account I had made three days ago to accomplish the task. The trick was to keep changing the account's password a few times just to make sure. But I helped the guy before, he just lost the avatar previously and couldn't find someone else to help him (understandably so!).

XD True enough, I mean it's possible that there would have been something going wrong. So I took my precautions and the guy did his best to allow me to accomplish all of it on my own, only allowing him access to the passwords at the end. So its cool. I like to do things to make people happy sometimes, and it didn't really cost me any money. I told him not to send me anything to repay me for it, because it wasn't a big deal but he sent me a bunch of items/money anyway through the gifting system. XD
Ah well, good times, I hope the guy is happy though. :) EDIT: Hm I can explain, gimme a sec to type this up. Okay. 03 donation items and event items were always based on an item-for-item trading system. Typically it was 2-3 items of the previous month for that item. For example, Halo was worth 3 bear hats or so, bear hats were worth between 2-3 august items/slippers, august items worth 2-3 minis etc. As time went on though, the trend tended more towards two items than three. However, for many people, if they didn't get at least two of the next month's items, they just simply wouldn't sell. This is pretty natural, obviously when all things are considered, people who had those items still thought of the trades that way. Exchangers naturally took this as the price guide too, because we followed the market trend. It was a good excuse to pull out a bit more from those we sold to anyway, and as for those that didn't know the item-trade value and only knew the prices, we knew what was actually a good deal item-wise versus price-wise and so made profits that way. Naturally, as the lower items increased in price, this brought the older items up in price. None more so than the Halo, which was the first item and people only knew about (for the most part) after they had donated to the site not even realizing they'd get anything out of it. The exception is Jerryvolks, who found out and donated a bunch beforehand to secure himself a hoard of Halos. (I heard it was 10 or so, but he says he gave most if not all away, however true that is I'm not sure, but I'm sure it's a truth stretched a bit to keep people off his back about it, which is understandable) In any case, devil's tails were the basis of all the older 03's. Dec and Nov were traded for DT's but weren't as solid of a basis, as they kept fluxing. But as Devil's Tails rose, Minis subsequently rose, August subsequently rose, etc. They are rare enough that this happens frequently. Fast-forward today after years of an economy flooded by gold gained by the thousands of users on the site, gold that is quite easily attained actually, and no gold-killing thing on the site to devour the excess gold and you get these insanely high-priced items for the mere fact that they are so rare compared to the population on gaia that wants them. They are a status symbol, and any seller of a halo knows that they can literally ask whatever they feel like they ought to get from it. It isn't about the monetary value for a Halo. It's about the item-value. Traditionally, a Halo seller wants 2 of each item from June on down. Whatever that adds up to be is the price for one. I could go on and on about how the hell I earned 350 mil to get a halo finally a few years back but I won't delve into that one. XD And I'm sure a Halo is worth more than that now. |

Item inflation is common sense to me...
Item for item is usually how most sites work. No one really ever trades pure gold of that level. It's the same on Menewsha.. When I sold my spare V-day 07 Hairpin and Boa I traded them for items (Crowns, Cloaks, Fans and whatnot) along with some pure....80k or so.. But anyways...yeah... |
Yeah, it's kind of a rare thing to have someone sell an older item and only want newer ones. So when that happens, people jump at that too so that naturally causes a high amount of competition.
But that's cool that you understand inflation is just natural, I'm surprised Mene is so calm compared to other places. It is my understanding that there's a lot of things in place to help people out, and to kill gold though. I mean look at the events - those things eat up gold. ^^ And the commons are so readily available, so good-looking, etc that you might as well put as much priority there as you do on the EI and CIs /wave I just saw you post after my insane wall of text over in another thread - are you a WoW player? |

Mene is VERY calm compared to alot of sites...Solia for instance...they are only a year old yet they have items heavily inflated...why? Because the admin is a cry baby exchanger from Gaia original and he actually TOLD ME he wanted items to be inflated and have limited rare items so people would fight over them. xD He was such a douche. <3 Anyways, commons are loved...for girls...boys still lack the number of wonder items girls have but we have a few gems.. I buy commons way more then I hoard rarer items...just cus I love em. xD Yes, I am a WoW player. lol! For awhile there, all I had was the crowns, full V-day 07 and Patty 07 sets, so I literally had to wear something worth 500K+ to cover myself.
EDIT You were a halo owner? o_O What's your name on Gaia, the same name? I heard that Solia is made up of a bunch of elitist Gaians that never knew what the real Gaia was all about. I missed the original exchange. Maybe we were all in a rat-race to get money, but we had fun dammit. Gaian Exchange Mafia ftw. Both 03 and 04 hells yeah. :) (Though I wasn't in the 03, I was in the 04 one. XD; And people yelled at us for having a new 04 one. *cried*) Anyway: that is a horrible thing to have an admin that wants things to inflate so that people fight over them. That's no way to run a site! I know people here though that wanted items to inflate so that they could sit on them and lord them over people/sell them for real money later/sell them for art and taking advantage of people later. In some ways, I'm glad I didn't have the foresight to buy a couple more items so that I could avoid being like them. Commons are insane on here, I want to go into the store and just have a free-for-all with them. But I'm an exchanger by heart, and I know that in doing so I lose out on money that 1) could be saved by buying at discount from people, 2) I lose pure I could be using to get items I need to make profits on, and 3) I am definitely not making my inventory value increase in price over time and will fall behind on inflation if all I own are commons. lol I always have my crappy Uld stuff on, but most of my DPS gear (and I used to be top DPS in the guild before I had to tank Uld) is Naxx stuff. I do great with it, but I dunno. Tanking is what I do now, and I have a 4/5 set of Tier 8, 2 of the pieces being Tier 8.5. Though that isn't through killing 25-man, we just do the 10-man mostly. That's from emblems and also from VoA -25. Which just about anyone and their mom can do now. >.> If you're a healer, I both pity you and respect you. I could never do that, I neither have the skill to do it nor the computer to handle doing it effectively. I can get away with latency/framerate issues as a DPS or tank. But with a a healer and a tank's (or other player's) life on my hands with a twitch of a second between life and death, I wouldn't be able to do it. |

@Seiki - XD Nice! I stayed away from Gaia mostly, just selling tomes and things in there. I'm up to 6 mil pure, just messing around really trying to get rid of my lower hoards and save up to maybe get another DT or something.
Though maybe I should invest in the evolving items. Yeah. That's what I'll do. That or the bone face mask that's there that looks like Grimmjow or Ichigo's masks from Bleach. I wasn't on mene for a good year but my friend was donating to the site for me with her credit card so when I finally got my new pc I had like 4-7 sets of all the CI's xDD;
