Child Endangerment. =-=;;
Three years ago, my son opened the window [that had been previously rusted shut] on our second story apartment. The fire department, that's right next door to me, was putting the screen back in for me, when a police investigator drove by and stopped to see what was going on.
The investigator left and was, I guess, talking about the incident at the presinct a block away and about half an hour later, child Protective Services is knocking on my door andhaving me arrested. Seems there was an uppity cop at the precinct that thought I was a horrid mother for not noticing my son was playing with the window. I had been taking a nap WITH my son when he did this. He had just started learning to get out of his playpen and got out without waking me. So I had no clue he was even awake.
Needless to say, my son was taken from me and full custody given to his father. I was injail for five daysand given a huge fine, a year of parenting classes, 30 hours of community service, 2 years of probation... and a plea bargain that said I could drop my felony to a misdeameanor in three years, if I was able to do everything in time and not get in trouble again.
Which I did.

I would have been infuriated. It's not fair for someone to judge a situation that prematurely. It sounds like they didn't even give you a chance to discuss what happened?

The lady that pressed the charges is known for being hot headed with child endangerment issues. She's incapable of having children, as a gun shot wound has left her barren. And being a cop, she's not qualified for adopting either. =-=;
So she's a bitter old hag.
And no, they really didn't care to hear my side of the story. The judge just looked at me and believed the cop over me AND the Fire Chief... who was the first on scene and had come into the house to wake me up. So yeah... bullshit happens in life and justice doesn't always prevail.
I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I was in the middle of a divorce and that I was a young soon to be single mother, with few immediate family in teh area.... and I was "Goth". Yeah, he mentioned that I was "Goth" and therefore had a lot of growing up to do. =-=;;

He was on Deployment... he knows I'm a good mom and does everything he can now to make sure that my son and I spend time together. Whether it's over the phone or in person.
But at the time... he was bitter towards me over the impending divorce, hence why he went for full custody and got it. But we've since come to a happy understanding with one another and consider each other as friends.

I'm glad you two are able to be amicable. It still sounds overwhelming. :gonk: Do you have any chance of getting custody back, joint or otherwise? (Or have the 3 years not completely passed yet?)
((And I'm annoyed by the goth comment, and our society is loaded with prejudice. It's disgusting.))

The goth comment is the one that pissed me off the most, as that was WHY he made the ruling to remove my son from my custody and strip me of all parental rights.
I'm sure that I could go to court and get some of my parental rights back, but i'm not worried about that at all. My ex and his new wife and daughter are a great family for my son. And Dreyk [my son] knows who his mother is, so it's fine with me the way it is.
When he's older [teens] he can decide for himself where he wants to live. ^^
Now i'm off to take a shower.

My goodness. o-o
That's beyond prejudistic. D:<
There was actually a mom out here who has a similar situation. (( Custody wise, I suppose. ))
Her baby was born with weak bones, and after one of her femurs deteriorated to the point that it actually cracked, the blamed her for being a negligent parent, and she hasn't been able to get custody back for about a year now.
She was an awesome mother, and she's always been a nice girl, but she's basically heartbroken because Social Services won't let her see her child, let alone get her back. =/
And the worst part is that the doctors are backing up the social workers, because they claim it wasn't the result of her condition.
It's been an ongoing issue for a while, and I hope they eventually believe her that it wasn't her fault that the bone was cracked, so she can get her kid back. D:

Magi: Kid's bones break all the time too. o.O I don't understand what the issue is. Did she not take the kid to the hospital quick enough?

She never even knew, until her child wouldn't stop crying 24/7.
Usually babies cry a lot anyways, so she didn't notice right away, but eventually she took her to get checked, and that's when the red flag went up. @[email protected]
And from what a lot of her close friends have said, they haven't been treating the baby for weak bones, because they still think it was the mother's fault.

What bothers me the most about this is how often a kid isn't taken away when they really need to be, like this little girl who was killed the half a year ago, who's parents were constantly in and out of jail and abusive.

It's generally figured that even a bad home with their parents is better than taking a kid away from their parents, but it becomes more complicated when the parents aren't together, because there are two possible homes.

Rainbows are awesome. >w< They're really more like colorful arches than actual bows, but that's okay. Though, I suppose, an arch is technically bowed. Right?
