What happened to it?

It's at my friend's house. I've been working on his photos for the most part these last few months. I just left it there instead of hauling it back and forth... but now I want it back.
LOL!

I may just buy a better one next week though.

I wasn't that far off this time. I did think that the boobs should be higher and the head and hand a bit bigger. I liked it well enough when I had it all sketched out that I didn't want to make any major changes because I figured I'd somehow mess it up. <<,,

I've been trying to do what you have there with the waist lately (with the ribcage and the straight area), but I can never get it to look right.

What do you think of the shading? XD I seriously started trying to do it normally, realized I had no idea how to hightlight correctly, and then just did chaotic stuff 'cause it looked right.

Yes, it's sometimes hard to put anatomical corectness ahead of what looks good in your mind. Hehe. And hte base figure is always fun to play with, but sometimes more confusing than it is worth at first. But the more you use it, the more comfortable you'll become with the proportions and how the yinteract together.

As for the shading... it is chaotic. Well that of the shading I notice. Most of it I thought was just design in the dress and coat... because the shade colors you choose were so close to the base color, that I almost missed where you used shading.
Try going more drastic next time. Also, just stick to a basic lighting for a while. Then eventually you can work up to multiple lighting sources and learning how the shadows overlay.

You're right that it kind of became design because when I tried regular shading I failed horribly. XD

I can never figure out what colors to use for shading. Especially on skin. I tried to use colors directly from a template, but the shading seemed far too dark to me.

Well use more than two shades when that happens. Use the darkest color sparingly, but not so much that it's just lines here and there. Look at the image I did for your sig for example. Three shades, but from the lightest to the darkest there is a big jump. The in between color ties the two others togehter.

Just fiddle and see what looks best to you. But just know that darker shading definately makes an image pop out at a person. And sometimes highlighting can be left out altogether.. though going for five colors is ideal with two highs and two lows tying hte base to both sides, being hte optimal for starters.

It takes practice and a willingness to go outside ones comfort zones. I know that in the begining I hated using darker shades, because I didn't want it to look weird.
Took me many slaps upside the head from friends and other critics of my art, to get me to start going darker and more vivid. -nodnodnod-

Sketch but seldom push myself to color.
Though more often than not these days, it's not drawing at all. -le sigh-
