I've never had a root canal but I watched my mother get them. XD She was severely sick because it affected her sinuses and it took forever for her to feel better. It's like a mini blue parachute in your mouth, as they isolate the tooth they're working on.

For wisdom teeth... I had them taken out when I was 13? I can't stand the pain of needles, so I cried until I blacked out when they were injecting me with the pain/knock out stuff and the doctor kept asking: "How are you doing? Are you okay? I need you to answer me." But I blacked out after that and then woke up in the car, screaming and blood came out of my mouth.

Had three types of medicine to take for preventing infection, painkillers and something else. My moms ex bf was a fruit loop and told me I had to take all 3 and I did. Then I couldn't keep any pudding or jello down and kept throwing up. It was awful T . T; After that tarded moment, I only ate on certain sides of my mouth because the stitches and swollen skin inside my mouth felt funny. I made sure to stay away from savory or salted/peppered soft foods or pop. I mainly just stuck to pudding and jello the whole time since anything like PB&J will stick up back there. I also don't recommend any kind of soup because it has salt in it and you'll regret eating anything hot/warm, while it's healing.

My brother had his taken out when he was 12? 11? He cried while we waited for our mom to go into CVS to get his medicine. He denies it, though. That's because he can't remember anything because his head was still lolly gagging from the surgery knock out juice.

And no, fillings are not supposed to hurt afterwards.
They'll jam that neon glowing blow dryer on them and if it's bad, then they will give you a needle. I've never had that problem with fillings, though. Just filing, that nasty fill in liquid and then the blow dryer because I've only had 1 cavity in my whole life and that was with a baby tooth... which also has another story to it. XD
They scheduled like everything within the course of two weeks. I have a root canal on August 3 and then on August 8 they take my four wisdom teeth.

Thanks for the tips on what to eat though. I probably would have just tried soft stuff and soup would have been top on my list.

your dentist could have put too much filling in.
it sort of makes the teeth touch too much.
it's called phantom pain.
nothing effing phantom about it!
call the dentist and see if you can get back in and have it checked.
i hopeyou feel better soon, take something to alievite the pain.

::scrolls past tales of woe and pain:: (I'm just having a day where I'm a little squirmy at the thought of pain.)

For what it's worth, to those afraid of getting their wisdom teeth out, my family's experiences weren't too bad.

My face bruised, but I bruise easily. I went under local anesthetic, and the pain was bearable after the first 24 hours (it didn't even start to hurt until I woke up from my nap I had at home after the surgery). I was "high" enough that I got on AIM and started rambling to my then-boyfriend about how I craved bread innards (y'know, just the soft white stuff). He was charmed enough that he told me he loved me for the first time. Anyway. I drank Carnation instant breakfast and ate soup and jello and yogurt for a few days and then was able to slowly move up to solids.

My brothers both were eating hotdogs (so semi-solid food) either the same day or the day after. Neither complained about pain. I was very jealous. I'm pretty sure they both went under local anesthetic.

My point is that you're going to hear a lot of horror stories about it, and it's going to scare the hell out of you. When I had mine done, they were required by law to show me a video of all the bad things that could happen having them taken out and it terrified me - but I was talked into getting it done anyway and nothing bad happened.

You're probably better off going in relaxed.

-------------------------

PS: As for my judging, I think I came across a little harsher than I actually scored. Since it's everyone's first time, I hope no one takes it to heart. A lot of very interesting avatars came out of this round and it was a pretty great first round.

I wanted to go back in friday, but they couldn't get me in until tommarrow morning. I've been taking Ibeuprofin (more then recomended but yeah just saying). Its been steadily getting worse though. Like the day I got it done it was a little sore but then yesterday it started to really hurt, and then in the evening my lip went numb and now today the whole jaw hurts. I think they put the temporary filling in too deep. The one that is the actual filling seems to be better today....at least I think. In the very least it pales in comparison to the other one which is worse pain then when I crushed four of the bones in my ankle. I can't wait until the third when they do the root canal for this pain to go away. I've been in tears its so bad more then once this weekend.

This makes me feel a slight bit more relaxed about the whole thing. I guess my biggest fear is that I'm gonna be able to feel them take the teeth out. I had the choice to be completely sedated but I couldn't afford it, and my insurance did not cover it. So I opted for the plan B which is the route of novicaine.

@ Cora; Ohmai... well, I hope you heal in time before the root canal.
I'd say it's best to have someone with you during both appointments.

@ Shadami; Ah...
All I know is if I have kids, I'm going to have the c-section and be knocked out.

Well, you don't get much talking like that unless its a RP. I miss making walls of texts ~ ~

@ Aya; I never liked going to the dentist either but they have a "booty box" which has tons of generic toys in it. I really love the splatter gel hand thingy, where you throw it against things for it to stick and then pull it back to you. xD There's also usually stickers, spinners, pins and bouncy balls! I love the bouncy balls! I don't care how old I am, I still love'em to death.

@ Ck; Oh, there are a lot of people with strong resilience to pain or can endure it more. I know I can't.
It really is required by state law? Neither my brother nor I had to watch a video. But the doctor did sit us down and checked out our mouths and told us what was going to happen and what we'd need to do after to take care of our mouth after surgery.

Mine never fully grew in...they appeared late and they waited until the roots were matured a bit and then took them out. If they waited longer it would have grown INTO my other teeth XD They were growing in a crooked direction because I have a small mouth....But I was 20/21 when I had them out so I wasn't that young XD

OMG I'm SO nervous to see the scores O.O

Okay, so I have all the scores. I just need to finish my essay and turn it in within the next hour and then I'll get the scores and the next round up as soon as I can after I finish up. And then I'll catch up on posts.

It's been a busy day DX

I had alot of cavities. Probably from 20 years of not seeing the dentist regularly.

I just hope you don't have get any caps, those things suck.
But I hope the infection clears because those are the worst. Have you been put on antibiotics yet?

I have to have a crown on the root canal, is that what your talking about.

And yes, this morning I was put on an antibiotic, but she told me it will be at least 24 hours before it even comes close to taking affect, also to expect it to get worse before it gets better.

@Faux- sorry, tis my fault.

my gosh cora. i hope it doesnt get any worse. it sounds awful. i hope your not in too much pain and that you will recover quickly. teeth are the kind of pain that is too uncomfortable to deal with. since i have gotten my wisdom teeth, my jaw locks painfully in the winter bitter cold. i dont have any infected teeth and im sure its about 100 times worse then that jaw pain and i know only the slightest of what that feels like. i cant even imagine how horrible a time you are having with it.
