when i click avatar creator.jar it opens a folder with a list of stuff in it...i thought it was supposed to open the avatar creator? XD

Does the icon have a little coffee cup on it? Because there are two things named Avatar Creator. The folder that it's in is called "Avatar Creator" and will have the icon of a folder. And then what I have you download is called "Avatar Creator.zip". If you were trying to open AvatarCreator.jar with the Avatar Creator.zip, it won't work.

What you need to do is find the command to extract all files probably to your desktop or C drive. Then you can use AvatarCreator.jar, which has a coffee cup icon, to open the avatar creator and it should work.

So, I'm wondering if the creator works on mac/osx. When I try to open AvatarCreator.jar, I get an error message that says:

The jar file "AvatarCreator.jar" couldn't be launched. Check the Console for possible error messages

Is this a mac platform error, a case of old Java, or something else?

I got something like that too, even after unziping the file (i' on windows PC not MAC though)

Download Java Virtual Machine before opening the Zip file. That way it should run automatically

Hmm, I can't seem to find a mac version of Java Virtual Machine, so I guess its a windows-only thing. I guess I'll have to wait for an online version of the creator then.

That's odd. :? Unfortunately, I know nothing about the Java console errors. They might have some information for you either at www.java.com or java.sun.com. Just make sure that it's the latest version of the Java Virtual Machine...

Also, there is a version of the Java Virtual Machine. Go to www.java.com. Click on the Downloads link on the top right of the page. If the download that they give isn't for Apple, there will be a line that says "Not the right operating system? See other operating systems here." and the see other operating systems here will be a link. Choose it and the go down to the bottom of the page, and you'll be able to download Java from the Apple website.

  Aaaages ago, I think I must have run another JAR file, but my computer was a bit spazzy back then, and it set it to open JAR files as zip. files.
  so every time I go to run the unzipped .jar file that is the Avatar creator, it just goes to unzip it again.
  
  I have no idea how to fix this. I've tried the 'open with' thing, but can't find Java anywhere.

See if there's a choice to open with something like Java(TM) Platform SE Binary. Else, you might want to download Java again from www.java.com. :3 That should probably fix your problem.

  Well, I've now got it not unzipping, I just get a class error or a little black box flash at me, depending what version of Java I open it was @[email protected];

  But it's one of those black code box...things. With white writting in it.

Oh! It's a DOS window. Mm... I remember that before I got it to work, a DOS window would pop up on the screen. I wonder why it's doing that for you now.
