Is anyone else out there in Menewsha diabetic like me? oh how i wonder. i'm sure there is somewhere. so talk about it here. how long have you had it? how did you find out? what type do you have? whats your opinion on it? do you hate it or is it not so bad? you don't have to answer these questions. but if you want to go for it! Also if anyone has questions about diabetes post them here and some who has it (like me) will try to answer it the best they can. I am type 1. which means i have to take insulin shots for the rest of my life in order to stay alive. sounds a little scary but its not so bad. having it for a while you get used to it. I've had it for 2 years now. i'm not totally new to it but i'm really really experienced. I don't really mind it. its not so bad. I also enjoy going to diabetic camp here in Oregon. And yes we can eat sugar and sugary snacks, just not all the time and not a lot. anyway if you are diabetic and want to talk about it, DO IT NOW! or if you aren't diabetic and you have a question, POST IT NOW AND IT WILL BE ANSWERED! or if you are diabetic and still have question again, POST IT NOW AND IT WILL BE ANSWERED! so don't hesitate. we all have different stories to tell, and no question is stupid if you don't know the answer.

My dad's beginning to recover from it. He was diagnosed with Type 2 after getting an infection, but he's changed his diet and watched his blood sugar, and he's been insulin free for about two and a half months now. It's a darn shame you've got Type 1. *hugs*

So far, I haven't been diagnosed as diabetic, but it runs in my family.
I remember seeing my grandmother poke her finger every day and etc. I don't know what diabetes types are really... I hope I'm not just stereotyping, because I'm uneducated about it.
I wouldn't be surprised if I get it. Not only is it in my family genes, I eat alot.... of sugary foods.
I'm actually eating sugar right now with strawberries. Pure sugar. ><

I'm not diabetic, but I have numerous other health issues. Oh god....it's too late to even start to get into them. xD
My grandma and uncle are, though.

My mother, my uncle, most of my grandmother's siblings, and my grandmother (somewhat) are all Type 2. (That's all of my family that I know about, seeing as I have never had contact with my father's side..)
I wish everyone in my family would just take better care of themselves, seeing as how that is their main problem. >,<*
My ex-boyfriend has a wonderful grandfather with Type 1. He was diagnosed around the age of 13 and he's now going on 70. Every day he has to have three shots, at minimum. He also has to check his sugar at least five to six times each day.
It seems like a pain, but he's so used to it by now he could do it in his sleep. The only thing is when he stays out or forgets to eat--he is rather old, you know?--then he starts acting loopy.. More so than usual. He often fails to eat every meal, takes his shot, then ends up on the floor. His grandson and wife are quite used to pouring Mountain Dew down his throat to get him to wake up while waiting for the ambulance.

My grandfather has Type 2 i think. Caused by old age. One of my moms cousins has Type 1, so it seems that it runs more so on my mom's side than my dads. There's certainly not a history of it in my family, which i'm glad of.

Is anyone else out there in Menewsha diabetic like me? -Jumps around- I have it too!!!
How long have you had it? I've had it about nine years now...
How did you find out? I got really really sick and I had to go to the hospital. I was in the hospital for a little over a month. I had gotten really close to going in a coma from how high my blood sugar was. I know before I went in it got really bad and I couldn't walk around or stay awake for more then a couple minutes...
What type do you have? I have type 1 as well.
[b]Whats your opinion on it? [b] It's part of life, just another chapter in my life. I know pretty much everyone in my family has it, so it runs deep. My mom, dad, sister, grandmothers, all have it. So yeah. lol. I'm pretty sure my niece is going to have it as well.
Do you hate it or is it not so bad? It's not bad at all. I've gotten used to it.
BTW!!!!
I used to go to the camp to!! The Gales Creek Camp. I think... I can't remember too well if that's it or not, but I went to a camp too! I want to go back and volunteer...

I'm type 2, and was diagnosed about 5 years ago.
I think the Docs have given up on me. I've lost weight so my BMI is normal, changed my diet, got myself 'healthy' as possible and still my blood sugar averages 14 (252) which is double what it should be. In the past 5 years I've not had a 'normal' blood sugar reading at all.
On a bad day it goes up to 25 (450) and then I have to go lie down before I fall down. Which is fun @ [email protected] I get a warning when it goes stupidly high though, as I get a headache behind my left temple and that usually means "Find somewhere quiet where you can collapse please".
The tablets don't seem to work either, so I'll probably end up on insulin soon.
Part of me doesn't want to have to rely on injecting myself, but I guess it's better than the alternative >.<

I have type two, and just recently was diagnosed with it. My levels are low, in the 130 to 120 range so my doctor, and adviser, are both convinced I can put it behind me if I lose weight. WHICH I have been trying to do but it is so hard. I would love to talk about this more but I have to go to work now. and as I have to lose weight, I get to walk the mile in.

I don't have diabetes, but it runs in my family. So, who knows, maybe I will one day... My grandmother (on my mom's side) & her sister both have it. My great grandmother lost her feet from it, & I think she died from some complications from it (I'll have to check with my mom about it later..)...& I think my grandmother on my dad's side has it too (not sure D: ).
There was a kid in my class who had it. & One of my teachers had it, too. They both had one of those pumps..

I don't have it but I probably get it if I am not careful. My grampa on my mom's side has it. I couldn't even begin to imagine what it would be like. I'd hate to have limitations on what I would like to eat. ):

So I was at work eating a salad for lunch, which I hate, and some guy who also has diabetes, checks his blood, pushes his pump, and then goes on to eat two twinkies and a brownie. I was so upset. I know I don't want to use a pump, but I do want to eat twinkies again.

My mother is diabetic. Not as serious to the point of injecting insulin, but diabetic non the less.
She's super worried that I'll be one too, seeing that I'm urh, overweight, and drink sweet drinks from time to time.
I think it's okay for some diabetics to just not care about their sugar intake, I met a guy just like this once, and he was drinking a Coke.
My mom keeps track of her sugar levels a lot, trying to make sure its below 7.

Thankfully I am not diabetic and my family does not have a history of being diabetic. Today with it's mass drinks laced with so much sugars and sweetners ex. energy drinks, I am not surprised so many people out there become diabetic. I always worry about the amount of sugars i inhale daily. I wish everyone well for those that are diabetic. Your body is the most important to your well being and should be taken care of no matter the age.

Totally agree. Health first. Whats all the money in the world when you don't have your health?
A mighty waste, wouldn't it be?

Some family members of mine are type 2...one (not a blood relative) completely ignores it...then he wonders why he gets complications from diabetes...
My mother's convinced I'm going to become diabetic because I have a major sweet tooth. But...I'm not overweight...so...not sure how that works.
