OMG What was that?

My sisters and I were watching a movie together the other night. All the lights were off and we're just sitting there when this thing flies over our heads and lands on the TV. We thought "No problem, it just looks like a moth." Well we turned on the light and it was not a moth! It was a freakin' two inch long cockroach chillin' on our DVD player.

Let me just tell you hilarity ensued after that as we tried to squish it with multiple shoes. The thing was, every time I got close it would take off flying and I'd run into my room and hide. I don't mind them on the ground, but if it flies I don't wanna be near it! My sister finally squished it when it ran into a corner beside some puzzle boxes that she rammed into it a couple hundred times. We left a shoe on top of it and vacuumed it up the day after. It was pretty flat by then.

So my questions are:
Do you ever get cockroaches in your house?
What do you do?
Are there certain bugs that you are deathly afraid of?
Do flying bugs freak you out?

Ebil 08-14-2008 03:23 PM

I don't think we get cockroaches here.
Probably too cold for them.
When I lived in Indonesia we'd get loads, and they were so pretty. Some of the big ones had so many shades of orange in their wings, it was fascinating watching them.
I'd catch them and keep them in jars until my Mum found out and freaked out xD

I love moths best, they're so pretty. Not like butterflies that are all "Look at me, I'm so pretty, I'm a butterfly! Whee!" @[email protected] Butterflies are just show offs. Moths are more subtle and I have a lot of time for them.
Ooo and Bees! Bees are just gorgeous. They just look so cute and always seem to be doing stuff. Plus when they sting you, they die, so that seems fair.

I hate flies. They're dirty creatures and really annoy me when they start buzzing around when I'm trying to sleep and mosquitos can piss off as well >:

Mobius 08-14-2008 03:29 PM

Ah! I hate bugs. All kinds. Butterflies even freak me out. DDD:
I never get cockroaches. But spiders.
I flip /out/ if I see a spider. I go nuts.
I ran over one in my car the other day and had to pull off the side of the road to double check and make sure it wasn't in my car. O-o;
Irrational, thy name is Ryan.
Anyway.

That sounds hillarous. xD
I probaly would have just run to my room and /stayed/ there. D;

Edit:
Wow. Typos. O-o

Sho-Shonojo 08-14-2008 03:31 PM

I can deal with moths. If it had been a big moth flying around I would have caught it and thrown it back outside. I don't find cockroaches pretty at all. I'm too busy trying to kill it to look at it's colors. >.<;

Risque 08-14-2008 05:21 PM

Dude, reading that make my skin all tingly and gross. D:
I remember taking trips to China, where the cockroaches would be larger than my thumb. >_< Thank god for slippers. XD

Spiders are gross too, there's so many of them during the summer. -.-

raindroproses 08-14-2008 05:40 PM

OMG yes!! I totally know what you mean about the bug phobia... especially the whole flying versus not flying thing, hahaha! Thankfully I've never seen a cockroach in the house. I'm not even sure if they exist in this part of Michigan... I could be wrong. Anyway, SPIDERS are awful... if they're outside I can at least avoid them, but if they're inside? I can't SLEEP if I don't kill it somehow... but killing it somehow will make me shake just by being around it. It's gross :P Centipedes are AWFUL too... especially the damn fuzzy ones that look like they have spikes and they're ready to attack you! Awful awful creatures!

My worst phobia when it comes to bugs? BEES! Bees and wasps... they terrify me. I have no idea why since I've never been stung by them and they don't exactly KILL you with one sting, but they scare me. I saw a nest in my backyard last year and it was enough to send me into a panic attack O_O I also don't like moths or butterflies, hahaha.

Oh! And I know what you mean about the whole flying cockroach thing... I don't know why, but I find it TERRIFYING when spiders come down and hang from a web O_O I hate them normally, but when I see them hanging in midair? Holy shit! That ups the terror level by 100%

Sho-Shonojo 08-14-2008 07:14 PM

Centipedes don't really scare me. It's probably because they just kinda crawl around on the floor and don't do anything to bother me.

I'm not to afraid of bees either. I'll kinda walk away when they've been flying around for a while but I'm not gonna scream or flail around. The funny thing about it is that I was stung when I was little, I even have a scar. Yet I'm not scared of them. My twin sister however is terrified. She told me it's because I was apparently crying a lot when the bee stung me and now she's afraid. DX

Joico 08-14-2008 07:24 PM

Yeah I had a incident with a big ugly bug at work. I was talking on the phone and when I went to put the phone back I noticed the huge scary bug was right in front of the phone so I had to think for a minute and then decided that maybe if I put it down slowly (and tried to stay as far away as possible) it might not move. Wrong it came at me and I creamed and everyone was looking at me Lol

Sho-Shonojo 08-14-2008 11:11 PM

Sounds scary! Big bugs are so unpredictable.

Kieran Haines 08-14-2008 11:30 PM

I've never had a cockroach in my house before, and I'd like to keep it that way. O _O;
Bugs in general, I just don't like. I don't mind if they're small, but when they have multiple legs, can sting you, or are the size of my thumb, I freak out.

And flying bugs...bug me. o _O
Especially if they get in my room at night when I'm trying to sleep and all I hear is this annoying buzzing sound.

Yummeh 08-15-2008 04:46 AM

UWAHH ~ That mustah been sorta scary in a way. o:
I've never had a TWO INCH LONG COCHROACH in my house before.
I'd be scared to death. o: I'm scared of a lot of bugs. D:
They freak me out for some reason. D:

I used to live in the ghetto back in Waldorf, Maryland. There where cockroaches EVERYWHERE. I think it was because our neighbor was such a pig. I remember waking up to them crawling on me. I remember first thing in the morning when I went to the kitchen I had to stop outside the doorway and reach around the corner to the light switch before I went in because there would be a family of roaches waiting for me to step on them with my bare feet. *shudder*

I couldn't have been happier when we finally moved to Virginia.

My dad told me in Puerto Rico the cockroaches are HUGE and they fly.

Jennifer 08-15-2008 05:30 AM

I was sitting at the computer the other day and I had a beetle crawling up my shirt. Our house is pretty clean and sterile, so I had no idea how it go there. But it was there. ._____. I remember just feeling something weird crawling up my back. Usually it's just a weird sensation, so I brush the area with my hand and it goes away. But nope, I felt something with my hand. So I stood up, took my shirt off and picked it off me. I remember going into the living room with it and putting it right in front of my sisters face while she was fixed on watching the television. It scared the hell out of her, lmao! "Get that thing away from me right now! You little -insert very vague words here-!!!" "I'm going to kill you!" Then dad was all, "Jen, just throw it outside and stop freaking your sister out."

Also, earlier today, Teigra, Tanya and myself was outside playing. I looked in the pool and noticed quite a few grasshoppers made their way inside. I grabbed one and showed it to Teigra. She ran so fast. .______. And Tanya just cried while saying, "Get it away from me!" I was just like, "They don't hurt you, they just like to jump a lot." At that time, the grasshopper I was holding jumped from my hand into the grass. Teigra said, "I don't love you no more Nennie!" ...because I scared her of course. XD

That is pretty hilarious lol. I do not have cockroaches no...once you get then it's never imposable to get rid of them. I'm only afraid of really big spiders...just the big ones...and no I don't mind flying bugs...just really big spiders...

Fallen~angel~plushie 08-15-2008 05:31 PM

I am deathy afraid of spiders. Flying bugs I don't mind so much as long as they are not bees or wasps. Little guys are horrible. I had carpender bees at my old house and both me and my sister wouldn't get near the house because of that.
And we walked home from school every day. XD
But Spiders I'm slowly getting over, I can actually go over there and squish it as my sister screams bloody murder.

FAGGY CHAN 08-15-2008 10:12 PM

EW COCKROACHES D:

I hate any kind of beetles.

And spiders that jump.
If it's not flying around me or on me, I'm fine.
But if like, like yesterday there was a beetle in my room and t was flying around, and I was screaming and running around. ;o;
But then it disappeared.
I still don't know where it went. << ... >>'

Insanity Rose 08-16-2008 02:51 AM

I really don't care for spiders or roaches, although unless I know something is poisonous, it doesn't really frighten me. The day I found the black widow spider in my garage, with my husband at work and unable to come kill it for me was the day I discovered that half a can of roach spray at a range of 6 feet works really well, too.

Yes, we live in the middle of the woods pretty much; I mean there are trees on all sides of us and only our small dirt road winding out xD
When it rains they come in, but only during the summer and springs. We really don't get them much anymore though cause we have three cats... and if something like that comes in... they are goners, my kitties are all over them.

Well, I put my cat down at them when there is one in the house xD

Japanese beetles. I hate those things so much. They are huge and when they land it makes a loud thumping noise, which is just... gross... xD
They come at night when the light is on outside... I'm not sure if that is the correct name for them (specially since I live in Georgia and the fact that this IS NOT Japan, but that is what a lot people call them. They look just like one after all. The bigness, the thump, the horn... xD
The a lot of stuff =P

I really do hate flying bugs the most out of all of the other bugs... yeah... they can get to you faster and... ehhh xDD

Sweet Lime 08-16-2008 06:14 AM

I'm not really sure, but I don't think that cockroaches are really that common around here. Bugs don't really freak me out but we do get quite a few daddy long leg spiders in the corners of our rooms.

Cherry_Doll 08-16-2008 01:14 PM

I used to get cockroaches like every day back at an old house I used to live in. But now it's mostly just water bugs and spiders.

I'm not a big fan of bugs, but any bug is better than a cockroach(except for a few giant bugs)

o_o

Lol, wow. I don't have any cockroaches in my house, although I used to live in a house with them, I am afraid of spiders, bees, and wasps. I'm not afraid of any other bugs.

Sho-Shonojo 08-16-2008 06:22 PM

I'm still trying to figure out where the cockroach came from, because we've never had any before that and I haven't seen any since. It probably came out of my sister's disgusting room, since she's always leaving food in there.

Necro Manic, I had Japanese Beetles at my old house when we had a pool. They would always come and die in it, or start drowning and then latch onto you when you swam by to try and save themselves. They were disgusting despite their pretty green shells.

icandiee 08-16-2008 06:42 PM

Eeek, i'd be freaked out as well! >____<
I'm pretty scared of w/e, but not moths, since they can't harm you, but I kill ants and spiders. xDD

MacSen191 08-16-2008 10:06 PM

Eww... I don't have cockroaches(thank goodness!) I hate the buggers... my friend had em really bad and they were hard to kill, ugly and just gross. Big moths freak me out, specially when you go on the front porch and it buzzes you... ick. Centipedes are really gross... whenever I see one I kinda freak and let my SO take care of it.

But, after finding a dead mouse in a bucket of mop water waiting to be dumped outside in the back hall bugs don't bother you as much anymore.

jupiter 08-16-2008 11:33 PM

That's too funny! XD
I remember being very little and watching "Arachnophobia" with a friend of mine in the dark. We were on this couch that was elevated just enough so that there was nothing but shadow underneath. When one of us had to get up for a snack or for the washroom, we would have to stand on the top of the couch, count to three and leap from the middle of the room to the only light on in the kitchen one room away. We would run for that light, let me tell you.

I battled a moth at a hotsprings in Canada. Well, it wasn't really a moth, it was Mothra. I was getting ready for a shower, and it was just covered in cobwebs and spiders. So as I'm sweeping it out and running water finally, I stepped in and looked up. There was this massive creature, Mothra, staring down at me from a light fixture. A peeping Tom of a moth.
So, I leap out of the shower, put my towel back on, and start swinging at it with the broom. It was a few minutes of fierce battling, before I finally emerged from the shower rooms victorious. As I was sweeping it out (keeping in mind that this moth had to be the size of your palm), some tourists wandered by and giggled.

I'm hoping it was eaten by a bird, because Mothra wasn't there when I got out.
