I know what you mean.

I say I'm fat because it's simply a fact... I don't mean I'm gigantic or OMG I hate myself wehhhh. I simply mean that I'm not in a healthy weight range, that I have more body fat then I should, and I should probably lose it.

I mean, I'm not a fucking cow, but I'm not skinny either. Sheesh.

I'm not fat (nor have I ever been overweight/chubby.. more the opposite; underweight), so I cannot completely relate, but I figure I'll speak from the other point of view.

Unfortunately it's so common that people call themselves fat from low self esteem that it just seems like that's what it always is (a bit too much prejudice, you could say..)

And in many cases, it's just annoying to hear, 'I'm fat,' because a lot of us have nearly been trained (from experience) to just automatically feel bad for the person. Also, since society's (medias?) view on beauty seems to portray that fat is bad, and not being that 'perfect model' is something that should be pittied, it's really drilled in.

Personally, if someone says they're fat I instantly say they're not out of habit. I don't care about what they look like, or what they weigh, or whatever. A lot of chubby people look better chubby than skinny anyway, and it really depends on how they're proportioned. To be honest, and to put it bluntly: I don't give a shit if you're fat or if you think you're fat. Despite that I can't speak for all 'thin people,' I don't go, 'oh my god, I can't wear these pants I'm soooo skinny.' Hearing phrases like these gets really annoying.

I do understand situations like the one stated in the original post, though, where it's like explaining something. But otherwise when people say they're fat it feels like they're complaining, or unhappy with it (low self esteem), so I tell them they're not in hopes they'll shut up.

I'm sorry if any of that seems harsh or offensive to anyone. :P

I think it's the way that society now percieves it. Your fat = Low self esteem and constant reassurance. I will admit i'm prone to jump to that conclusion myself. But that's cause i'm constantly hearing people put themselves down about their weight. I myself do it also. But it's something that they have to do. To work on.

But that was a good idea, to get the tattoo while your bigger.

Has anyone done this to you?
Do you jump to tell people their not fat?
Why is calling yourself fat automatically associated with low self-esteem?
Do you find this annoying?
Blah?
so annoying it is, i say i need to lose a few pounds and i always get, 'you're not fat, don't worry"
i'm not worrying and i know i'm not fat, neither am i skinny, i just need to get off my lazy butt and exercise once in a while, tone my little bit pudgy belly.
i mean i haven't gone swimming in ages cause someone said i look like a whale, she was a b*tch, but i've lost weigh since then and i think i'll try a bikini if i get my tummy flat. that or wear shorts with my bikini top.

i don't jump and tell people they're not fat, i'm like 'lay off the doughnuts and you won't look like one'' seriously i joke but yah know the saying 'you're what you eat''

~~
oooh i want to get a tattoo on my right hip about bellybutton height, maybe i should get one, but i'm not sure, i want a good tattoo artist, not the ones in my little town/city, since it's pernament i wanna make sure they do a good job.

Yea, I know the feeling. Some people do jump up, but a quick whack on the head and they stop. The truth's the truth. It's definitely annoying though. I try not to pop up, I usually ask why they say that, and sometimes agree. If they look down about it, I try to pick them up, but only then.
