Insomnia, Nightmares, and Sleepless Nights

I don't know about you guys, but I wasn't able to sleep last night, probably due to excitement about the new year (my brain pulled a Princess and the Pea on me, durhurhurr). Anyway, I was wondering if any of you Menewshans have been overlooked or jilted by the Sandman recently?

Now, for your enjoyment, spoonfeeding! It'll leave those hands free to click-clack merrily away on those keyboards of yours.
i. Nightmares: Had any interesting or freaky ones recently? What were they about?
ii. Insomnia, sleeping pills, and sleepwalking: Insomnia cases causing pill-popping which induces sleepwalking, oh my!
iii. Princess and the Pea: You didn't sleep (neither did I), but why? Is it because the moon is dead?
iv. No Rest for the Wicked: References to sleeplessness (the title of this numeral is the name of a wonderful webcomic, I'd suggest checking it out), the Sandman, and other sleep and dream related things in pop culture, books, etc.

My typing skills have degraded and my grammar and punctuation are atrocious because of my lack of sleep, please overlook any glaring errors or general nonsense you may see, I'm seven kinds of stupid today.

MirukuKuroNeko 01-01-2009 07:39 PM

hey i think we all are seven kinds of stupid today...
i actually don't have dreams that often, but when i do, god there weird...
i remember this dream from when i was really young(like 8 i think)
it was in strange colours, and it had a t-reax, and the cats from sailor moon(luna& artimus)
and we were driving vans trying to escape the t-rex...
it was probably the single strangest dream i have ever had...
ssssttttrrrraaaaannngggeeeee!
oh and i dream in english, but you don't hear it, there is subtitles....
that is strange....

I. My most recent Nightmare...hmm I don't get the often. The only one I can think of is from 5 weeks ago. My blanket had a strong grip on me, kind of like a cacoon. My mouth wasn't covered, but I screamed as hard as I could. Or rather I tried. Then I saw the shadows at my door get more dark and menacing. They made their way too me and I kept trying to scream louder and louder until - I woke up actually screaming. >.<

II. I don't take sleeping-pills. INstead I always toss and turn for 1-3 hours. Lately I've been laying there for 4 hourse now.

III. Eh what now? *confused*

I don't DARE touch those Sleeping Pills or Prescription drugs to go to sleep at night, I commonly doze off around midnight. At least, during the Winter, anyway.
As for the summer, I'm pretty nocturnal. I remember a long time ago when I was really young, I would leave my room and wander around the house at night, but now I share a room with my Twin Sister, so I'm scared that if I move at all she'll wake up, (And my Sis IS a bit scary...)

Sleep Walking..? Highly doubt I've had that. As for talking in my Sleep, happened before, but extremely rare.

As for Dreams, My siblings say people always dream, but it's common to entirely forget it.
I really don't remember any of my Dreams, but one time I had this Dream where the 70's were in and EVERYONE was reverting to Retro stuff, like Lava Lamps and Peace Signs

I haven't had a fullout nightmare (that I remember) since I was a kid but I have really strange/uncomfortable dreams a lot. :I

As soon as I don't have a strict schedule (i.e. school/work balancing) my sleeping schedule goes to hell. I was up until 9.30 AM yesterday D:

Claudia 01-02-2009 06:37 AM

1) I don't get many nightmares...Mostly boring dreams.
Most of the worst dreams involved reality with being pulled out of sleep due to the re-occuring chronic pain in my belly area. I'd dream something violent was happened to me and then I woke in pain. My chronic belly pain would be flaring up.

2) IF only I had known!....I wanted to be sleepwalking so bad that I would be dreaming that it happened. AND I was only bring tricked as it never actually happened. I hate being foolied like that. I've never tried pills for insomnia.

3) Sometimes I've been in bed all night without sleeping. Problem is it means I'll promptly fall asleep during the daytime.

Then there would be the pain issue, this often kept from sleeping for 24-48 hours. Not sure if it counts under insomnia since I was tired and couldn't fall asleep due to the pain. I would be extremely tired by the time I feel asleep either because the pain subsided or because my exhausted became greater then the pain level.

4) I've seen a few references.

I always have insomnia... I've had it since I was a kid...
I got used to it, I suppose. Some nights I don't sleep... others 4 hrs...
I mean, at least I miss less life, right?

Cemetery 01-02-2009 03:43 PM

I don't touch sleeping pills, I usally let myself fall asleep on my own.. even if it means I'm up for three days before i crash unto my bed.. or keyboard like i'm famous for.

I've had some really strange dreams, I once dreamt i was surronded by penguins. O.o and they where talking to me in german and I understood them. They spoke of odd things like.. why was the moon pink. I had a nightmare, where i dreamt that I was taken out of my home, placed into foster care and wasnt returned for eight months... funny thing is, It happened. -.- Next time people will beleive me when i say "Next year ain't gonna be pretty." I told my mom that at the end of 07 and she just shrugged it off.. well.. WHOSE LAUGHIN NOW WOMAN! -licks a lolipop-

Stallion Duck 01-02-2009 04:30 PM

Well, since I've gotten older I don't stay up for special events (New Years, Christmas, etc). I haven't had an real "nightmare" in a while, but I keep having this reoccurring dream about zombies taking over my town. It always ends right before the zombies try to get the the roof of my school, where everyone is.

Opera Phantomess 01-02-2009 06:22 PM

I cannot remember that last time I had a nightmare... I either dream about crazy things that make no sense overall, or I have prophetic ones. The prophetic dreams are becoming more and more common and my Deja vu takes place nearly every second of every day... I even have "feelings" about what is to happen, tell my family to do or not do something because of that, and I end up right. I am thinking of getting advice from an authentic psychic to see what I can do to control it all. I can have sleepless nights, but that is from having so much negative energies coming into my life and from a bad mattress.

I refuse to take any sleeping pills or anything since I gave up on most medication anyway. They never work for me and usually make me worse.

Quantum Angel 01-02-2009 07:29 PM

Sleep trouble is really frequent for me. You see, I have sleep apnea, and my CPAP machine gives me nightmares (I'm deathly afraid of hospitals and it makes me feel like I'm in one), so I'm stuck with either putting a tennis ball down the back of my pajama top so I have to sleep on my side (which isn't even 100% effective)...or inevitably having nightmares of some kind.

Worst part about my tennis ball trick? My dog loves tennis balls. XD;;;;

Though I do still have nightmares sometimes without the machine, often even along the same lines as the ones it gives me (though granted, the machine does make them worse; notable case - before I started trying the tennis ball trick, I refused to watch my favorite movie, because every time I did I kept dreaming of dying in the hospital and having to watch someone I care about very very much essentially commit suicide because of it...that...really sucked; now I can watch the movie with minimal nightmares, though I still do have nightmares about it sometimes).

My worst streak of nightmares, though, was actually BEFORE I even knew I had sleep apnea. I'm not going into the details on that one...but I did have a single recurring nightmare for over two years. Eventually I...got used to it to the best extent that one can, and I guess that's what made it go away, because it slowed down and eventually just stopped coming after that. Another thing that helped me was that I went up and talked to someone who was in costume as the main antagonist of said nightmare...and needless to say didn't get killed.

I also suffer from an annoying type of insomnia. I'll feel too tired to do anything, even talk, even hold my keyboard in my bed and type...yet I CANNOT, for the LIFE of me, ACTUALLY GET TO SLEEP. Eventually I pass out from the boredom.

I don't take sleeping pills for it. I can't. Depressants of any kind make my sleep apnea worse. I'm totally fine at this point, but if I make it worse, it could kill me. o__e;

But...ah well. I'm actually kinda used to it. It sucks being a vampire forced into a normal diurnal human's schedule.

Uber-Kitten 01-02-2009 07:40 PM

Ah sleep, My mind frequently screws it up. Insomnia till the early morning then I'm dead to the world and nothing can wake me up. And try staying up for two days straight, THAT will totally mess up my system. I slept for about 4 weeks straight because of that!

Volucria 01-02-2009 08:59 PM

My most recent nightmare involved slashing my boyfriend's sister's throat. With a machete. While the Boyfriend was in the same room. o_o; There was blood everywhere, the Boyfriend was mad at me (durr), and then a bunch of partying people burst in and saw the blood, the machete, and the nearly headless corpse.

...And I'll check out the webcomic :)

sakura.bloss 01-02-2009 09:51 PM

^_^ The princess and the pea is a really cute story~ xDD Although the pea wouldn't bother me, I wouldn't sleep for fear of falling off all those matresses!! XDD;;

But anyway...I haven't really had any nightmares lately... I had one dream about this freaky centipede, but I wouldn't class it as a nightmare.

As for sleepless nights... *sigh* I've had plenty. My sleeping habits are by no means normal...yet I won't take sleeping pills. I hate the feeling of falling asleep unnaturally. It makes me struggle to stay awake. DD:
I don't have insomnia... I just have to be really exhausted to fall asleep sometimes. :/

Kieran Haines 01-02-2009 11:25 PM

When I was little, I had a nightmare that my Dad lost a bet in a gambling game, and as a punishment he had to turn into an elephant. o _o Freaked the crap out of me, but when I ran to my parents, tears streaking down my face as I explained the dream to them, they just laughed. xD;
I also had a nightmare about my family turning into Pokemon and trying to turn me into one too when I was little. That freaked me out too > _> Then again, thinking about it now, being a pokemon wouldn't be so bad.

Now I barely have nightmares, let alone dreams. I don't usually have sleepless nights, since I just let music play in my ears from my MP3 player which helps me sleep. :3

I haven't any lately unless you call bashing up your own sister in your sleep a nightmare. Weird, yes but nightmare no.

I didn't sleep once because I wanted to pull an all nighter. It was fun.

my boyfriend suffers from sleep paralysis occasionally and severe anxiety sometimes. he has lots of sleeping problems. I bought him a sodolite stone and so far its actually been helping. since i bought it for him he only had one sleep paralysis problem which is way less the it was before.

i dont know if that helps anyone... but try it. i happen to believe in it, so that may be why stone majik works for me. but it cant hurt trying, their less the a dollar!

Jeannesha 01-05-2009 04:39 AM

Back when I was working, I was an early riser.

Now I go to bed really late - but still have trouble falling asleep. Sometimes I just get up, rather than toss and turn in bed.

I have very vivid dreams. The nightmare-ish ones usually are about me trying to get away from something, but I can't run. I end up pulling myself along on the floor with my hands. Weird, huh?

There are also the usual "oh no... we're having a test and I haven't studied" type of dreams. Never mind the fact that I've been out of school for very many years now.

Annalesia 01-05-2009 06:13 AM

Due to clinical severe depression I don't normally sleep very much, it's just so hard for me to fall asleep and once I do I'm restless and waking up every hour or so from nightmares. My depression pills are supposed to help with it but I take them in the morning and refuse to take them at night for if I take a sleep inducing pill it's near to impossible to get me up in the morning! And my boyfriend, Josh, has insomnia so he doesn't sleep much either. Usually, I'll be talking with him on the phone (he got his computer taken away for bad grades. lol-you'd think since he doesn't sleep and has all that time on his hands he'd get some work done! but he's just so lazy!) or sometimes he'll even sneak over to my house because my parents work at night we never get caught.

Gaara_Silent_lover 03-02-2009 01:52 AM

Due to my overly active mind, I can't seem to fall asleep. I'm not entirely sure why this is. I'm one of those people who can't seem to get the full required 8 hours of sleep for my age group. Aside from this, I'm still able to get my priorities done. Don't ask me how I do it, I just do. Honestly, I'd rather not sleep. My fears, bad memories, and nightmares, take over my dreams. Making them..something that brings me to tears when I wake up.
I've never taken sleeping pills, or any of that kind. I find them useless.
I'd rather not take them.

ellaangelus 03-07-2009 05:23 PM

well when i read the tidle of the topic,
i knew this was me
i always have insomnia,
when i finally sleep i have nightmares...
and sleepless nights there were hundreds

I never heard of that story...

pachi 03-08-2009 07:10 AM

i've probably never had a sleepless night, i think. if i crawl into bed, then i'll fall asleep for sure.
i've had several nightmares that had me wake up dreading the worst, though. but those (along with good dreams) are usually interrupted by my alarm. T ^T

i do believe i talk in my sleep sometimes. usually with good dreams, i think.
