We've all had fantasies as children as to what our future careers and adult lives would be like. From the impossible to the mundane, there were answers we gave that amused adults and older wiser children alike.
I know that at one point in elementary school, I went to see a professional story teller in the school's tiny library and heard him tell us a new spin on the Frog Prince, which was always a tale that fascinated me. (Who in their right mind would kiss a frog?) After hearing him tell the other children and I about his job and listening to his story, I came home and announced to my parents that I, too, wanted to be a professional storyteller. My mom thought it was cute, though she didn't encourage it by any means, while my dad took immediate issue with it. He told me bluntly that I wouldn't make any money and that it was a useless job.
Useless? Maybe by today's standards, but a long time ago storytellers were revered by their communities, and I had always had a natural knack for making up stories long before I could read or write. I remember one time in particular when I filled a small notebook with "cursive-like" scribbles and would "read" a story from it, one that naturally changed from telling to telling. But I digress, after that little talk I gave up what I consider to be my most important childhood dream and moved gradually away from it into a more fiscally plausible but similar career dream, the one I am currently working toward today.
I'm sure my dad only meant the best, but that was a dream I instinctively knew I was meant to achieve and his blunt words crushed it in a brutally effective manner--and, I have to admit, I still carry a small grudge for that crushing, though he's probably long forgotten it.
So, Menewsha, what were your childhood dreams? How did they end?

I wanted to be a veteranarian. Then I found out you have to go to school for that and cut open animals. That was back when I liked animals. Then I decided to be a jet pilot, but I hated teh army. I've wanted to be a musician, but the only thing I'm goo d at is singing, and I hate female singers, so why would I want to be taht? Then I wanted to be an astronomer, but I didn't really know how to go abuot doing that. Then, I wanted to be, and still do want to be, a writer. In all of my endeavors, my parents have supported me.

At first I had a lot of small dreams that I wasnt really serious about. But from one point I decided I wanted to be an artist.
My great grandfather was a really interesting artist so he has been a role model for me. If an old farm worker can become one then why cant I?
Up until now I have tried to try out every side to art I could. I've taken art classes, pottery classes, I make jewellery and am currently learning the art of clothe making. From this I guess I'll be going to another school to learn more about arts.
My family has been quite supportive, only my dad told me, that I should become an artist who makes art, not "Art" lol..

I always thought that storytellers or people that were just naturally good at entertaining you with their words should be more highly regarded in our society. Its kind of my side dream to be able to do that well enough. Not really books, but the spoken word.
My parents told me that being an Herbalist was a waste of time. I really didn't care though. I'm working towards my dream right now. I don't think anybody should give up on their dreams I just think that you should think about it in a more realisitc way. How you could apply what you want to do to the real world. Most times you can come up with something.
Like say you wanted to be a fairy when you grew up. However absurd that sounds to most people there are plenty of opportunities to do that. You could work for a Ren. Fair or something of the like, or do childrens parties.
Its hard for parent's to want you to grow up to do something like that because they want you to be successful. But in actuality if you can dream it you can do it if you have the guts to pursue it.

Ever since I've bashed my head into a screen door, and got stitches. I can't remember much of my childhood.

Ex that whole first part. I wanna be a novelist or a critic. Always have wanted to be a writer, always will be.

I started out wanting to be a nurse. Then I wanted to be an astronaut. I did a brief stint in second grade, when I found my dad's copy of Cosmos, where I wanted to be a gaseous nebula. That was fun. I then moved on to archaeology, then a historian, then a librarian.
I ended up in school for the original ambition. I'm in nursing school now. =3

The earliest childhood dream I remember was wanting to be an Egyptologist. I think I was around 6 or 7. I became interested in Egypt reading about Egyptian mythology. After that, I think my next dream was to be a Botanist, then an Archaeologist. My dreams weren't really crushed by my parents or anything like that. My interests simply shifted. As I learned about various fields, I decided I liked them better, I suppose. I'm still interested in ancient Egypt and Botany and Archaeology, but not as strongly as I used to be.

I wanted to be an actress. Not a movie starlet, but a stage actress - I loved theatre people and wanted to spend my life doing it.
Then I wanted to be a mob lawyer, because I thought that would be cool and interesting. (LOL)
Now I guess I'm still going into law, probably civil rights and liberties/constitutional law. I'm way less excited about it than I was, though.

When I was five I wanted to be an assassin :]
That ended when I realized I wasn't flexible.
When I was six I wanted to be a cowboy.
Because my grandpa's a 'mountain man' and was in love with John Wayne.
That ended when I realized those cool cowboys weren't alive anymore. :<
When I was seven I wanted to be a waitress.
My grandma used to be a waitress and we'd play around with plastic or paper plates and carry them on our palms.
That ended when I was 12, because it paid little.
When I was 11 I wanted to be a teacher.
That ended because I realized teachers have it pretty bad.
When I was 12-ish I wanted to become a writer.
I still do kinda... I'm not as good at it any more though. :<
When I was 13 I wanted to become a tattoo artist.
But then I realized I can't draw.
When I was 14 I wanted to become a drug dealer.
That ended when a good friend of mine was shot and killed because of drugs.
When I was 15 I decided I'd make a good cop.
Then I changed my mind and said I'd rather be a parole officer.
Then when I was 15 I decided college was too long and too expensive so I'd rather become a stripper.
I still do. I like the attention that it would bring me, it can be a side job while I'm studying to become a P.O. :D

My entire childhood I only even wanted to be one thing: a teacher. As far back as I can remember, that is the only thing I wanted to be. I would line my dolls and stuffed animals up and they would be my students while I wrote out stuff on the chalkboard(I had a toy box that had chalkboards on the side). When my friends would come over we would play school; I would give out the homework assignments and they would write their papers from the books I had(I let them be the teacher too).
My mom always told me I should be an architect. I got a box of legos for Christmas when I was five and I loved them. My mom tells me that I would build all these crazy things that she would think would just fall over, but that they never did. Not only did I build it, but I had the sense to build it in such a way that it was completely stable.
I am neither of these however. I was never really into being an architect. And I gave up on being a teacher a few years after leaving high school-I got sick so I couldn't go to college like I would have liked, and by the time I got better, I wasn't willing to go to college for years. I didn't want to try to make up for the time I missed.
I went to school to become a pharmacy technician-something I became interested in during my illness due all the medications I was put on. I have my license, but I haven't yet been able to get a job in a pharmacy. I'm playing with the idea of becoming a pharmacist, but that goes back to the whole years and years of school thing.
Unfortunately, it's looking like I'm going in a different direction, if I get hired at this place that I'm applying to. I'll be an emergency call taker, which really isn't bad. I still want to be in the pharmacy though and will continue to pursue it.

The first dream that I could remember was me being able to fly XD
But my first real dream was to become an astronaut. It was just so cool to go into space and all that.
I wanted to step on the moon, see the stars closer, float in space... all that cool stuff. I got close to that dream once but something bad happened and everything I worked for disappeared. It depressed me for years. D: But I'm over it now and found a new dream in the field of arts. ^_^

When I was a small child I really wanted to be an artist, I was better at drawing and painting than the others children my age. However later I thought it wasn't an easy job to have a successful career in so I decided to be a designer. though I wasn't sure whether I wanted to be an architect or a fashion designer.
On the side however I had always wanted to run a business because I thought that was a good way of having quality of life. And while I still believe its cool for some, who are able to deal with the stress involved, I found out It wasn't for me when I started a degree in marketing...needless to say I was left with no other option than to transfer into another degree. By this time I had finally decided through life experience that I wanted to do something to contribute to the community and help improve it so I transferred into a social science degree which I'm studying now.
Funnily enough, recently I participated in a painting workshop and the artist who was running the workshop was so impressed she said I should pursue a career in art and become an artist.

I wanted to be a vet as a child and look after animals. I found out that I had a difficulty with blood and watching animals suffer, so I discovered that I really couldn't be one. Putting animals down, giving needles and performing surgery.... was too much for me. ;~; I've wanted to be one since I was 6, so the idea isn't completely out of my head yet... I still sort of want to be one.
I'm considering becoming a lawyer's secretary and eventually a lawyer, because I'm very good at debating and arguing. =] I'm also interested in justice and the justice system, so I think I'd do well with a bachelor in law.

most of the people think i'm 18
cause they say i'm really acting not like a child.
everyone says that.
and it happenes to me all the time,
if i don't say my age to a person,
he/she thinks i am actually 18
it happenes to me all the time)
so when i was a child,
i wanted to go to school
Badly! and right now
i just wish is Over!!
i can't take it anymore

I used to want to be an astronaut! I always thought it'd be awesome to touch the sky and brush my fingertips on the moon. I wanted to catch stars and put them in my pocket. The thought of being in space made me happy. Someday I want to see the Earth from space myself.

My childhood dream was to be a secretary or personal assistant.
I think I may pursue that after I pursue massage therapy, nutrition, and personal training.
I also may pursue psychology.
I have many things I want to learn and explore and I don't want to limit myself so I wont. I'll keep going back to school and learning my options and exploring. ^^

I'm not honestly sure I had a childhood dream at least not one I felt very comfortable and sure I could achieve. I was very depressed as a child in general though. And I never really was able to every decide I really wanted to be whatever when I grew up.
I always felt like there was something wrong with me because I wasn't able to tell what I wanted to be when it seemed like everyone else could. But now as I write this I think, maybe it's not that I didn't have a dream. Maybe I over analyzed possible dreams without even noticing and created a seed of doubt called practicality every time I thought of something.

I don't think I have ever stopped with my childhood dream and I'm still actually trying to pursue my childhood dream now that I am in university. It is not a job or anything. Its more like my dream house and how it would look like. I always used to draw plan of my house and even look through furniture magazines to see how I could decorate the interior. I was very into my dream house and until now, I still think of ways to make it better. Its kind of had to explain my dream house since I would have to draw it out but I can probably describe it ^^
Well, I have a sitting room with nice plush couches where the carpets and walls are mostly in cream and gold. This place is the most elaborate of all the rooms. No TV or any entertainment technology here. Its strictly for reading and sitting for family time. I'll have a living room though with the TV and everything. This is where we ca have guest sit. The kitchen will have a counter and those funnels to funnel out the cooking smell. and there will be a dining table in the next room with a nice glass table and steel chairs! The guest room will be downstairs and it will have a bathroom and 2 beds in a theme of the ocean.
Upstairs we have the 'play room/study'! The most awesome room ever. The roof of this place is all glass and the floors are of wood. There will be a counter for the kids to study with a a nice Apple computer and half of it will be a play room where there will be drawers of toys, and an entertainment corner with bean bags to sit on and a play station with it. The study and play room will be separated by a wall that is filled with in-line skates and skateboards! I want to raise a family of extreme sportsmen and women XD And my room with my hubby will have a nice wooden bed with sheets that are all white and a plasma TV and a walk in closet! My children will get to choose their own rooms so I have not exactly made my mind up completely on their rooms!
We have a garage too I forgot which has my hubby's honda S2000 and my own very pretty Ford Black Beauty! *Sighs* What a perfect life XD
